He tilted his head, hesitantly reaching out and touching a bit of her hair. "W….what happened?" he asked, still looking confused as shit. Just like when they had first met.

@croccin-champagne

She ceased her fiddling, reaching up to point at her hair. "My hair? Oh, I, uh, I had dyed it a few times, and I'm letting it grow out."

His frown deepened slightly as he looked down at himself. "I guess I can't be one to judge," he mumbled. "I've changed more than you have."

@croccin-champagne

She huffed a small, slightly sad laugh, nodding. "I didn't realize my hair looked that bad. You have changed, though. Quite a bit. Not so scrawny anymore, huh?"

His voice, just the same as it was a year ago, barely seemed to reach her ears. "It's all Rich. I haven't worked a bit to do this. ANd he isn't a fan of shaving."

@croccin-champagne

Or me, apparently. She hunched her shoulders a bit more, nodding as she listened. Her eyes flickered to Lorine's camera, uncomfortable having this conversation while being watched. "Well, you…look more grown up."

Baylee didn't seem to notice as he shifted uncomfortably. "I don't like it, to be honest. I look like a 30 year old now. Hell, I didn't know I could even grow facial hair."

@croccin-champagne

Eve tugged on her jacket sleeves again, nodding. She was once again unsure what to say, and grasping at nothing at this point. It'd been so long, what used to be comfortable casual conversation was now awkward for both of them. "I almost didn't recognize you when you first.." She trailed off, unsure what to even call the switch from Rich to Baylee.

"Most people don't," he said, shrugging. "Rich is a former Marine, so he keeps my body in the best shape he can."

Lorine shook her head and turned her camera off, shoving her hands in his pockets. "I'll give you two some space. I'll be upstairs if you need me." She walked out of the room and shut the door.
"I'm….sorry for running off," Baylee said, looking down at his feet. "I should've at least told you."

@croccin-champagne

Evelyn's eyes returned to Baylee, filled with nervousness and something else. Something a bit more like confusion. She shook her head, hurrying to speak. "Don't-you shouldn't have to apologize. I get it, Baylee. Well, not get it get it, obviously, but I under-fuck." The swear was startling coming from her, as she very much hadn't been the type to swear before. "I really hope you know what I mean, or I sound incredibly stupid right now."

Deleted user

"I….I get it's a lot to take in," he mumbled. "That town….that entire state just became too much for me."
His face twisted in what seemed like a mix of rage and confusion. "I felt like I was being pressed in on all sides. Like everyone was against me." His voice quieted as he said, "Even you."

@croccin-champagne

Her shoulders slumped, but she nodded, looking back down at her hands. “That makes sense. You-it was good you left, good for you I mean. Better for you than that town.” She was quiet for a moment before speaking, her voice incredibly soft. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be what you needed. I was stupid-and didn’t understand, and instead of trying to I…was just a horrible friend.”

Deleted user

"You were just confused," he defended, "It's not every day your friend is suddenly 5 different people."

@croccin-champagne

"But that doesn't excuse anything, Baylee." She said softly, a sad regret underlining her tone as she fiddled with her hands again. A tick she had mostly gotten rid of, before everything. "And I'm really sorry for that. Confused or not, I should have been there for you. All of you."

Deleted user

"Well, you're here now. And that's what matters," he said, sounding a bit more confident. "How long are you planning on staying in town?"

Deleted user

"I have an extra room," he said, smiling slightly to try and break the awkwardness. "You can stay there. Rich has a job, so I'll be gone until five. After that….we'll figure out something to do."

@croccin-champagne

She blinked, looking up finally and meeting his eyes. "Are you-are you sure? I don't want to impose or…fuck things up again, Baylee. And I know Rich doesn't like me, not that I blame him."

Deleted user

"Rich cares about me enough to at least tolerate you," he said with finality. This tone of voice was almost never heard from him before. "Have you had dinner yet?"

Deleted user

"I can make you dinner," he said, jabbing a thumb towards the door that Lorine had walked out a few minutes ago. "I learn a bit since I've been gone."

Deleted user

He waved it off. "You're eating, and that's final."
Baylee got up to his feet and stretched, his joints popping in multiple different places before walking to the door and opening it.
