Thomas woke up suddenly, sitting up and almost falling out of the cot with panic. His chest heaved and his blue eyes were wild with fear and rage. As his surroundings registered, the boy realised it was just a dream, Just a dream he kept repeating to himself.
Except it wasn't.
It was real. It was a memory.
The confusion at first, then the panic. Shira screaming and writhing in pain and panic and Thomas could do nothing to stop it. He just watched as her spasms slowed, then stilled. For hours he called her name, shook her lifeless body and placed kisses upon her cold lips, but nothing was working. She was dead.
Then his own pain started, * this is it *he had thought, it's over. For hours he endured unbearable pain tearing through his back, ripping his muscles and skin apart.
Then it was over.
Thomas shook himself out of his thoughts and stood wearily. Every night since the incident, he had dreamed about that moment. Why had he survived and she hadn't? It should have been him…
Ryver sat at end of his bed leaning on the foot of the bed. His hair was a mess currently, his breathing was fast but he was trying to slow his breathing down. He knew there weren't many of them left and he still wanted to help. Still Ryv couldn't believe how many were dead.
Emory traced her finger along the surface of the lake, watching as the water turned to blood where her fingertip touched. She sighed and made it all vanish, and stood up. Now was not the time to be idling.
Zoe was putting together some little pieces of tech. She had invented viruses that caused computers to turn in on themselves, devoted nearly all her time and resources to it. They could hide in any device like a cancer, only being found when it was too late. Viral DNA, of a sort. She was quite proud of her inventions, actually. They'd be quite useful.
Era was sitting in the main room of the hideout, methodically cleaning the array of weapons in front of her. She hadn't been able to sleep much the night before and her usual ritual of cleaning the Seventh's gear had not lulled her as it usually did. She wondered how many of the team were awake. It was about time to get started.
Declan lied in his bed, twirling a knife between his fingers, contemplating what color he should change his hair this time.
"Hey, bitches. So, what's for today then? What radically good deeds shall we perform?" Zoe walked into the room Era was in.
Ryver got up after he got his breathing correct and his heart rate normalized. He got dressed then walked to the main room. Not bothering to fix his hair before he did.
Emory pulled her jacket around her shoulders and flicked her hand in a dismissive motion, making a shadow disappear, revealing a woman with red hair and blue eyes. She rolled her eyes. "Should've known it was you that has been following me for the past while." She walked past the woman and stepped into a shadow, teleporting to the shadow of a tree a few feet away, and smirked when she saw the woman look for her in the shadow she had just been in.
Declan got out of bed heavily, and walked outside to where Ryver was. "Nice hairdo. Mind if I copy it?" DEclan changed his hair color to match Ryver's.
"yeah fine." Ryver said then looked around the room. Then walked to the kitchen to get water.
Era glanced up as people walked in the room and greeted each other in their own no nonsense ways. "Good Morning." She said to them all, her low voice easily travelling throughout the room.
I should probably go meet the others, Emory thought with an eye roll. She sighed and vanished again, reappearing in the room the others were in.
Thomas, after awhile, was able to get himself together and out of his head and walked to where the others were. His wings were tucked tight against him, the only outwards sign of his anxiety
Emory huffed and sat down in a corner, away from everyone else.
Ryver walked out of the kitchen holding a cup of water and leaned against the door frame.
"Y'all have a good nights sleep? Sweet dreams?" Declan said, sitting on the floor slowly.
Thomas scoffed, "Is that even a question?" he said icily, turning and opening the small icebox to find food
"Sorry, Tom, didn't mean any harm." Declan responded. "Just trying to lighten the mood."
Thomas ignored him, pulling out a soft drink and closing the ice box again. He flicked it open and took a swig, "Anything on the agenda today?" he asked, "Any leads on the source of this shit yet?"
Ryver walked over and sat down on the couch. and sipped his water.
"So we're all in a pissed off mood today? Already?" Era said as she put a gun back together with expert efficiency.
"Well, it isn't like I had a good morning today." Ryver said then he finished his water and looked over at her.
