“Me too,” Kasey whispered. “…How are you feeling now? How’s your head?”
“Me too,” Kasey whispered. “…How are you feeling now? How’s your head?”
"Mph, slightly better. Headache is fading, nausea is sort of gone." Barry nuzzled her neck lightly. "How are you?"
“I’m good. Happy. Glad you’re feeling a bit better,” Kasey said as she snuggled closer to him.
Barry smiled, kissing the top of her head. "I love you.."
“I love you, too…” Kasey sighed softly.
In all honesty, she was kind of tired. She hadn’t slept well that night, mostly because she was up worrying about Barry. So, with his warmth beside her and the fuzzy blanket across their laps, she felt her eyes drift shut as she rested her head on his shoulder.
(awe)
(skip? I have a bit of angst ready..)
(Lol. Sure. You’ll start, then?)
(Yup. This is about a week later, that okay?)
Barry sipped on his drink, taking out his phone to check in on Kasey. It was around two in the afternoon, and he'd sat down in a café to study for an oncoming test.
BARRY: Hey Kase, how's work?
(Works for me!)
Kasey felt her phone vibrate in her pocket and finished helping a customer before she pulled it out. With a smile, she read it over and quickly replied.
KASEY: Good. Busy. You?
(boop)
(sorry, it's been a heck of a weekend and I had 24 unread when I came on)
(how are you?)
Barry smiled slightly, humming to himself as he typed out an answer.
BARRY: Good. A bit tired, missing you :(
(It’s fine. I just didn’t know if it had gotten lost or something. Lol.
I’m good! Shopping with my sis for a Christmas party.
You?)
Kasey grinned an quickly replied before she got called back.
KASEY: Aw. I miss you, too.
I’ve got to go. See you later?
(lol
ooh fun
I'm good!)
BARRY: Aw, fine. See you later :(
Slipping the phone back into his pocket, Barry picked up his drink again— then froze. It was her. Walking across the other side of the road.
Before he could even stop to think, he had grabbed his belongings and set off in pursuit,
(That’s good! I’m glad!
Also… It’s not… It’s not who I think it is, right?)
Kasey went back to helping customers, taking their orders and delivering them to the baristas.
(not his friend, she killed herself. Someone related to her….. hehehehehehe)
The woman in front of him tossed her long black hair, unaware of her pursuer. Twisting her thin, almost bloodless lips into something resembling a smile, she studied the sign of a store selling antiques, fingers brushing over the ring tied around her neck. Barry's hand flew to his own ring, an identical copy.
"Nyx. What the hell are you doing here?"
(Hm, good… I hope…)
Smiling politely, Kasey took the next customer’s order, then passed it back to Willow.
(ha nope)
The woman whirled around, her obsidian eyes clashing with his. They widened for a split second, before a sly smile settled on her lips. "Barry, how nice to see you…" She smirked, playing with the ring hanging around her neck. "Looking for this?"
(Darn…)
“So, where’s your boyfriend?” Willow asked once there were no customers in line and no orders to make.
“Hm, I’m not actually sure right now,” Kasey said with a shrug. “Why do you ask?”
Willow gave a loose, one-shouldered shrug. “Just curious. You guys haven’t come in in a while.”
Barry clenched his jaw, holding his hand out. He was practically seeing red by now, trmbling in anger. "Give it here. Now." Nyx let out a short, cruel laugh. "And why should I?"
"It doesn't belong to you!"
She smirked. "It belonged to my daughter, I believe I have a right to it."
"Well, it doesn't," he spat back. "You were barely her mother, you left when she was little and popped back in every now and then to give her a few more scars."
(Aw, sad.)
“We’ve both been pretty busy, I guess,” Kasey said.
“Hm, must be,” Willow chuckled.
(oof)
Nyx shrugged elegantly. "Does that matter? I was family, you were not. She had no will, therefore half her possessions fell to me."
Barry gritted his teeth. "I was more family to her than you were."
"Not in the eyes of the court."
"Give it now." HIs voice was low, burning, threatening.
"No." Nyx turned away.
(Oof, yourself! Geez… Poor Barry…)
“What does that mean?” Kasey asked, giving her friend a look.
“I just haven’t seen much of you outside of work lately, that’s all,” Willow answered.
(xD)
(uh oh, Willow..)
Nyx began to walk away, hips swinging, and Barry just stood there, torn between returning to the café and running after her. He couldn't trust himself around the insufferable woman, he'd probably end up punching her and getting into trouble with the law. Growling, he turned away.
“Oh… Willow, I’m sorry…” Kasey said softly.
Willow shrugged. “It’s fine. Whatever. Your shift is done in a couple of minutes, and we’re pretty dead, anyway. Do you want to go early?”
“Sure. I’ll… call you or something later,” Kasey said as she stepped into the back.
Barry didn't bother with his drink, just went straight back to his dorm room, slamming the door behind him. Caleb, who was sitting on his bed, jumped, almost spilling his Sprite. "Wha– Barry?? What's wrong??" HE didn't answer, only sat down on his bed heavily.
Kasey clocked out and hung her apron up before grabbing her things. As she was leaving, she said a quick goodbye to Willow, then texted Barry.
KASEY: Hey, I got off early.
Barry's phone buzzed, and he picked it up, reading the text without replying. Not realizing that he had his read receipts on, he set it down again. He was too… unstable to text. Or talk.
Caleb approached him carefully. "Hey, what's wrong?" Barry didn't answer.
Kasey didn’t really looking for an answer, she was just letting him know. Her phone was already in her pocket by the time he had read it, so she didn’t even notice that he had. She made her way out to her car and headed back to her dorm.
Caleb tried again, softening his voice even further. "Barry?" Finally, Barry caved in.
"I just- I saw someone. Reminded me of a couple years ago. Had a fight." Caleb immediately put two and two together.
"Oh god, man, I'm sorry. That sucks."
Kasey walked into her room and plopped down onto her bed. She was exhausted, having been working since early that morning.
