Kasey nodded slowly. "It really is fine, though, Barry. Do you… Do you think you could go back to sleep? Or do you want to talk some more?"
Kasey nodded slowly. "It really is fine, though, Barry. Do you… Do you think you could go back to sleep? Or do you want to talk some more?"
Barry turned his head away, hating himself for being so weak. “I’m keeping you up….. I’m fine- you can sleep.”
"You are not fine, and I can tell. Please, I will stay up as long as I need to in order to make sure you're sleeping again," Kasey pressed, her voice stern but gentle and her grip on his hands tight.
“It’s just another dream..”, he mumbled in protest, but he could tell she wasn’t going to agree. Just fall asleep quickly, so she can too. “I’ll fall asleep eventually..”
"And I'll sit here until you do," Kasey declared with a determined look in her eyes. "Please, Barry. Just let me help you."
Barry hesitated. "O-Okay. Sorry." He lay back down, guilt heavy on his shoulders. "I'm sorry." His voice was quiet, barely audible.
"You don't have to apologize," Kasey whispered, scooting closer to him as she gently squeezed his hands. "I just… I want to help you."
Barry looked up with her, trying to put his shattered composure back together. "Thank you," he murmured quietly. "And I always have to apologize…" Tugging her down next to him, he wrapped his arms around her comforting form, a silent tear tracing a pathway down his cheek.
"You really don't have to," Kasey murmured as she wrapped her own arms around him. "I want to help you. If I had woken up and not done anything, I would feel like a horrible friend. A horrible girlfriend…"
Barry shut his eyes. "You shouldn't have to feel bad.. I should have made a bigger effort to keep quiet and not wake you up.." He exhaled slowly. Kasey's arms.. they were so warm and safe. "Thank you."
"You're welcome… But I would have known something was wrong, anyway," Kasey said softly, kissing his cheek. "Mind reader, remember?"
"Right.. I almost forgot." Barry pulled the covers over them both, holding Kasey close.
"I almost forget sometimes," Kasey admitted quietly. "I've learned how to block most things out."
"Is it easier for you that way?" Barry asked, nestling his head in the crook of her neck, his cheeks finally dry though his eyes were still red and puffy.
"Yeah. Otherwise, I get massive headaches and migraines," Kasey sighed, kissing his forehead.
Barry nestled himself up against her, hating himself over and over again. "Well, then I'm glad you've found a way to block it all out."
"It was miserable when I was younger and had no idea what the problem was," Kasey explained. She shrugged and curled around him more. "But it's good now. I can hear really intense thoughts every once in a while, though."
Barry tangled his fingers in her hair. "So… you can hear me mentally blushing every time I look at you?"
"No, but I can hear you think about me every once in a while," Kasey chuckled. She hummed happily, closing her eyes as Barry tangled his fingers in her hair.
Barry blushed slightly, his hands going still, no longer trembling. Slowly, his breaths evened out. "Thank you so much.. I don't deserve you.."
Kasey opened her eyes and looked at him. "Don't say that. You deserve much better than me."
Barry shook his head firmly. "Don't say that about yourself, because it's far from the truth, and.. it's sort of the other way around."
"If I'm not allowed to say it about myself, then you're not allowed to say it about yourself," Kasey argued, tightening her arms around him.
"But in my case, it's true……." Barry's voice was barely audible. He hated how broken he was, hated how weak he was being, hated how small he sounded.
Kasey lifted her hands and placed them on either side of his neck, her thumbs resting on his cheeks. "No. It's not. I love you just the way you are."
She loves me. She said she loves me. Barry shivered under her touch, heart bursting. Her words seemed to hang in the air. Shifting forwards, he pressed his mouth against hers, softly, tenderly.
Kasey kissed him back, just as tenderly. She let her eyes fall shut as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Barry fell asleep like that, lips laying against hers.
Kasey opened her eyes a crack and smiled against his lips. She pulled away gently, resting her forehead against his as she closed her eyes. Soon, she was sleeping again, a content smile on her face.
