"It's feeling a lot better. When can I take the bandage off?" Kasey asked, also grabbing a chip. She dipped it into the queso before popping it in her mouth.
"It's feeling a lot better. When can I take the bandage off?" Kasey asked, also grabbing a chip. She dipped it into the queso before popping it in her mouth.
"Probably by tomorrow. And yum, this is good." Barry took another chip.
"Great! And it totally is," Kasey agreed, dipping another chip into the queso with a happy smile.
Barry's smile widened when he caught hers. "So, did you enjoy seeing Sarah Dessen in real life?"
"It was so cool," Kasey declared with a slight giggle. "Honestly, I'm so glad I got to meet her. Thank you so much for taking me."
Barry brushed a lock of hair out of his face. Smiling sheepishly, he gave her a one-shouldered shrug and a smile. "It's no problem."
"Maybe not, but I'm still really glad you took me. I've had a lot of fun today," Kasey said softly, looking down as she blushed slightly.
Barry averted his eyes as well, running a hand through his hair. His heart tattoo flushed pink. "Me too."
Kasey brushed her thumb over her tattoo, smiling slightly. She was excited to be able to take the bandage off and see it. The color changing thing seemed like it would be really cool, and she couldn't wait to see how it looked.
"I hope you like the tattoo.", he told her sincerely, still keeping his eyes on the table. "Hopefully I did a decent job on it."
"From what I saw when you finished, I'm sure I'll love it," Kasey assured him gently. "I'm honestly so excited to see it."
Barry blushed lightly. "I'm glad I was able to give something to you, then."
"Would you… Um… Do you want to come see it after I take the bandage off?" Kasey asked, her cheeks burning as she bit her lower lip.
Barry's cheeks caught flame. Ducking his head again, he did his best to piece together a coherent sentence. "Uh– sure– I– yeah– sure.", was all he could manage, his flusteredness jumbling his words.
"Cool," Kasey said, her voice squeaking a bit. She'd have to lift her shirt again for him to see, but… He'd already seen her when he did the tattoo, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal, right?
Barry's cheeks remained a deep hue of red as he visibly refrained from covering his face in embarrassment. OhmygodohmygodwhatamIdoingohmygod. "Uh– so– um–"
Kasey shoved a couple of queso-covered chips in her mouth, her cheeks still burning bright red as she avoided his eyes.
Why did I do that? Why did I invite him over? Now things are just awkward…
Then make this not awkward, stupid.
How am I supposed to do that?
Um…
Ugh, you're no help.
"So…" Barry cleared his throat nervously. "Um…. how did you sleep?" As soon as the words left his mouth he wanted to slap himself for sounding so stupid, but it was too late.
You idiot! You absolute idiot! I cannot believe you!
"Great. I had this really weird dream, though…" Kasey trailed off as she remembered it, her blush deepening, if possible. "What about you?"
Barry shrugged, a question visible on his face. Dream? "A solid four and a half hours, not too bad. What was your dream about?"
"Oh, nothing much," Kasey said, loosely shrugging one shoulder. Just kissing you…
(damn)
Barry wished he could read her mind. Instead, he contented himself on trying to keep himself composed while he tried to flirt with her. "Come on, let me have a guess."
(Lol. I was going to say their wedding, but I figured that was too much, too soon. Granted, it's not like we can control our dreams 99.9% of the time…)
"I make no promises of telling you if you actually guess it correctly," Kasey said, forcing a light tone into her voice as she smirked at him.
(lollll)
Barry rolled his eyes. "I guess I'll just have to figure it out judging by your facial expression." He paused, thinking for a moment. "Some insane, Alice-in-Wonderland level event? Something to do with your family? Flying?" He leaned closer, lifting a teasing eyebrow even as his insides were a mushy mess of anxiety. "Hm…. Me?"
Kasey gave him a weird look for his first guesses. When he guessed himself, she blinked a few times.
"Any other guesses?" she asked quietly, trying to fight her blush.
Barry grinned triumphantly. “Judging by your facial expression, I’m going to guess that one of the answers I guessed was correct.”
"Maybe, maybe not," Kasey said with a tight shrug.
Barry let it go, finishing the last of the chips just as their main courses came in. “Yum.”
"Oh, tacos, yes!" Kasey said with a grin as her plate was set in front of her. "It's been a while since I had good steak tacos…"
Barry laughed. “Me too.”
