"Just, please don't ever leave like that again." Afriel watched him carefully.
"Just, please don't ever leave like that again." Afriel watched him carefully.
Zackary poked his head out of the sheets. “Of course not. Never. I missed you too much to do that again.”
"Right. I missed you too." Afriel turned to go back down stairs. "I love you." She closed the door behind herself and made her way to the back to get started on baking.
“Love you too!” Zackary called back with a little smile. He rested his head on the still somewhat dusty pillow and shut his eyes.
Afriel worked through out the day the hole time worrying that Zackary would leave again, and every chance she got she'd sneak up stairs just to make sure he was there still.
Zackary was there, always, sleeping soundly. He looked rather cold without his large wings to accompany him, though. In fact, he looked totally different without the huge, black and feathery wings.
It was almost sun down when Eden shooed Afriel away, telling her that worrying was no good. "Hey Zackary, you up?" She asked peeking inside.
Zackary stirred sleepily when Afriel spoke and he rose his head. He nodded slowly.
“M’ up.”
"Uh-huh. I guess what I should be asking is, are you going to be staying up?" Afriel wasted the door shut behind her as she came fully into the room.
Zackary sat up with a yawn. “If ya want me to, I can. I’d love to.”
Afriel laughed, "you'd love to stay up? Maybe you are tired."
Zackary shrugged. “I slept all day. Plus, I’m kinda cold, sooo…”
"Cold you say?" Afriel cocked her head to the side, an amused grin on her lips. "Are blankets not enough?"
Zackary shook his head. “I’m used to the big black things behind me… hmm what were those called again? Oh, right! My wings!”
Afriel held in a laugh not wanting to seem incentive. "Well those things you called wings took up a lot of space."
Zackary frowned a bit. “But they were warm and comfy. I miss them.”
"Yeah, they where really nice." Afriel sighed. "But hey, you'll get used to your new ones."
Zackary stirred so his wings were on his lap. “They’re not even wings anymore. They’re just… skin.”
"Hey, you'll learn to fly with them still." Afriel made her way over to Zackary and sat next to him.
Zackary ran a finger over the almost clear joint. “Sure I will. But… it won’t be the same. I doubt I’ll be able to learn again and be comfortable with it.”
"Well nothing ever feels the same once it changes." Afriel gave a small smile. "And who knows, maybe it'll feel better."
Zackary sighed and leaned his head on her shoulder. He half-closed his eyes. He was truthfully still exhausted.
“Did you wanna do anything d’night?”
Afriel sighed. "Sleep?" Though she didn't think she'd sleep much, everything felt to unreal. And her fear of him leaving again still rested in the pit of her stomach.
Zackary wrapped his arms around her, and he leaned his weight onto her side. “Mmm… sounds like a plan.”
"Yeah." Afriel leaned back into the bed trying her best to sleep. But her mind decided it'd be a wonderful time to be wide awake, and so she was.
Zackary gave a low crooning sound when Afriel went into motion. The moment she stopped moving, the moment he stopped making the noise.
Afriel laughed at Zackary. "What was that?" She asked turning on her side to face him.
Zackary snuggled up into her chest, huffing. “You’ve heard that sound before. Don’t gimmie that.”
"Hm yes, but it was out of the blue." Afriel let her fingers dance through his hair.
Zackary closed his eyes, loving the feel of her fingers in his hair. “It surprised you… how come? I did it all the time… just to make you laugh a little.”
