So shall we begin?
YEAH!
(my character doesn't have anyone……I think, not sure)
I'll post a starter then!
Can Tia and Cam be friends?
Tia opened up the bookstore, placing a "Help Wanted" ad in the window, as well as several new releases, and a schedule for the Author Hangout and Book Club. She then went over to the register, which was stationed by the cafe bar so she could both sell books and coffee. It wasn't the best system, but she did need an assistant or two to be able to handle it. Besides, it would give her more chances to talk with customers, and support those who were new to "The Community" as she called it. Although this was a place of refuge and learning for all, she had initially founded it as a bookstore for the LGBTQIA+ to read, learn, hang out, and share experiences. Tiana remembered coming out to her mother and father, how they had been able to love and accept her no matter who she loved. But Tia knew that others weren't so lucky, and she intended to make a space that, at least for a little while, they could feel safe and comfortable in. She waited for the first customers to walk in, waiting with anticipation and a little anxiety. This was her first day, after all, the opening day. Tia was never one to make a spectacle, so she didn't put a "Just Opened" sign or some crap like that, blaring for all to see. That would have suggested…. well, overeagerness. And Tia didn't want that to be her first impression to anyone.
Can Tia and Cam be friends?
Totally!
Is that an okay start, everyone?
Cameron walked into the bookstore, humming happily and carrying some cupcakes. "I brought cupcakes!" She exclaimed as he held them up high, she let go with one arm to fix her glasses. "I put my bike in the alleyway, is that okay T?" She asked, setting down the box of cupcakes cheerfuly.
"Yeah, but did you put a bike lock on it?" Tia asked. "I don't want it getting stolen from you, you love that bike!"
"Of course I put a bike lock on it!" She looked a bit offended, but she was pretty theatric. " Anyhow! I got your favorite cupcakes!"
"Ooh, thanks, Cam!" Tia said, taking a cupcake.
"So, what's the plan for this bookstore. I'm applying to work here and I can bake for the cafe." She offered, taking a bite of a cupcake.
(The starter is great!)
Jeanne clenched and unclenched her fists, trying and failing to call herself down as she walked down the street, eyes puffy and red from crying. She pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket with trembling hands and unfolded it, looking over the items. The hastily written shopping list had been her ticket to leave her apartment, and thank god she had it. Jeanne swallowed and wiped at her eyes angrily. It was then that she caught sight of the bookstore.
Pulling her hair out of a messy braid, she took a shuddering breath in and walked inside.
Cam turned her head when she heard the door opening, immediately seeing the puffy eyes. She smiled and decided to cheer up the girl. "Hi! Would you like a cupcake? They're free."
"So, what's the plan for this bookstore. I'm applying to work here and I can bake for the cafe." She offered, taking a bite of a cupcake.
"Oh, well, I do need a bit of help, and if you could do stuff in the cafe, it would really help. My hands are tied, I'm going to be so busy from now on." Tia said, as she noticed someone enter the store. "Greetings, human! You happen to be my first customer! Welcome to my humble abode!" she grinned.
“H-Hi.” Jeanne swallowed and offered a tentative smile. “Um, yes— yes please. Thanks.” She came forward hesitantly. “I was just wondering— are you still taking helpers?”
"Awesome!" Cam cheered as she offered the box to the women. "I'm Cameron, that's Tia. She's the owner of thiis awesome place!"
"Awesome!" Cam cheered as she offered the box to the women. "I'm Cameron, that's Tia. She's the owner of thiis awesome place!"
Jeanne took a cupcake, willing her hands to stop shaking. “Th-Thanks. And um, yeah, it does seem pretty awesome. She was slowly regaining her grip on her emotions, coming back to herself.
"So, you're interested in working here, you say?" Tia asked.
Jeanne nodded, taking a careful bite from the cupcake. “Yeah, is— is there a form or an— an application?” Her eyes were slowly loosing their puffy teariness, her breathing was calming down.
"Well, I'm pretty desperate for another hand to help around here, but you have to send in your resume and fill in a bunch of forms and all that crap." Tia said, leaning over the counter casually.
Jeanne nodded. “Of course. Are there any….. specific requirements? Other than the usual, I mean.” She was trying to hint at the fact that the bookstore was meant to be something of a haven for the LGBT+. Thank god for that.
"Well, don't be an ass to customers and don't refuse people just because of their religion, race, gender and associated identites, sexualities, cultures, mental or physical conditions and or disabilities, or hygiene taboo, and I think you'll be good." Tia said. "As I said, the usual stuff."
Jeanne smiled widely, somewhat wobbly. “Thanks. Um, I’m Jeanne.”
"Last name? Also, if you have a computer, which you probably do, here's the site that you can apply to." Tia said, quickly scribbling down a website on a piece of paper.
“Ambrose-Powell. And yeah— I have a computer.” Jeanne took the paper. “Th-Thanks.”
"Fantastic! Now, feel free to browse through the books, pick something you like, I dunno. Or do whatever you wanna do, but as I said earlier, I dunno."
