"You kinda learn the names of new kids quick." She said looking through the cuboards. "I thought I might show you where the best places to look for it is."

Kaelyn walked over to Fynn and Nyk and handed them some scraps. "Fynn, Nyk, hide these. The official's gonna check on us any minute now, and I can't hide these all by myself."

Ava his some of the scraps that she found. She then walked over to the others. She looked at Fynn and Ethan. “You two should go back out there before they come in.”

Fynn and Ethan walked away with some hidden scraps. An official walked into the kitchen a minute later and all the girls lined up. They knew the drill. The official inspected the kitchen and walked out without a word. Kaelyn and the rest of her friends were relieved. Although they had done this already. the fear of getting caught was always there.

“Alright we better get going to the nursery,” Ava said before going to the door.
Ethan turned to Fynn. “Ok we have cooking first,” He explained.

"OK ready to go!" Nykidia said bouncing on the tips of her toes.

Kaelyn laughed. "Okay, well see you around Fynn," she hesitated before adding. "And you too Ethan." The two groups separated and Kaelyn walked with the other girls to the nursery.

Fynn tried his best to keep himself from grinning. All the excitement of sneaking food out of the kitchen was exhilarating. "Cooking?" He replied. "Do we only do household chores here?"

“Yeah. We are trained to clean cook and take care of kids,” Ethan answered walking down the hall.

Ava walked down the hall. When they made it to the nursery she opened the doors revealing the lines of cribs. There were 10 babies in the room. Some were starting to wake up and cry.

"So…we're trained to become servants? That's not fair!" Fynn exclaimed, crossing his arms.

“Did you now have a wait back home?” Ethan asked smirking slightly.

"We didn't have-" Fynn thought about it for a second. "Wait…is that why when I woke up, my room was always clean? Is that how the dishes got cleaned? I thought my parents did that…"

“Oh your from an elf house. That explains a lot,” Ethan said laughing slightly. “Come on we can’t be late to cooking. Plus there are a few rules I have to tell you before we go in.”

He decided to save his questions about what an 'elf house' was for later. "It's just cooking, how hard can it be?"

Nykidia rushed up to one of the cribs and started to cradle one of the babies, humming it a lullaby.

Ava whent up to a crib. She quickly made some formula in a bottle and picked up the baby.

“Have you ever cooked before?” Ethan asked knowing that most new kids have never even touched a stove.

Nykidia went from crib to crib humming and rocking the babies while she hoped Ava would come by and get the babies something to eat while she was calming them down.

Ava put the baby back down and then moved to the next one making another bottle.

"I made trail mix once, if that counts." Fynn muttered, kind of embarrassed by his lack of useful skills.

“It’s ok no one ever knows how to cook when they first get here,” Ethan said his smirk turning into a kind smile. “We don’t usually talk during lessons but today I’ll help you figure out we’re everything is and how it works.”

Fynn nodded, grateful that someone here was actually keeping him from trouble. "Thanks. I'm ready to start cooking."

“Alright then right this way,” he said before walking into a room. It had 10 stoves all linens up in rows. There were two boys per a stove. Ethan whent to an empty one.

Fynn followed Ethan to the stove. "If we're messing with fire, I'll give you a heads up and say that I'll probably end up burning this place to the ground."

“Don’t worry you should do fine,” Ethan tried to reassure him. He looked at the board. “Well it seems we are learning how to bake cookies.” He turned to the right page in the cook book.

“We bring the containers to the girls,” he said pointing to the window looking into the kitchen. “Then we wipe the tables.”

Ava saw the Ethan start to walk over. “Nyk I don’t want you doing anything, alright?” She said giving her a small smile. “I’ll do the dishes, Kaliyah do you mind sweeping?” she then whispered ”and keeping an eye on Nyk”

“Sure.” She whispered and started

Kaelyn tended to another baby. She was one of the few waits who knew how to take care of small children when she first came because of her younger siblings. The waits in her house always tried to shoo her away from her siblings, but she always watched from afar. It was always for her stories. The ones she had to hide from her parents in fear of them tearing everything apart. She had made that mistake once, and never again would she make that mistake. Thinking of her family made Kaelyn sad, so she excused herself to go the bathroom.

He perked up. "Cookies? Do we get to eat them when we're done? It's our hard work, after all."

“I wish! We don’t eat anything we cook in here. And they pay attention so it’s hard to sneak any out. But usually when we cook sweets it goes to the toddlers or kids,” Ethan said as he got some bowls and measuring cups out of the cabinets.

"At least we're contributing to society. That makes all this worth a little more." Fynn replied.

“Ok tell me what exactly you know about cooking,” Ethan said wanting to know if he knew the basics.
