She laughed nervously and looked down at her knees again, "Wanna walk around?" she asked
“Yeah, sure,” he agreed, brightening again. “Let’s walk.”
They began walking around the loop of the hospital, a few nurses saying hi as they passed them, "So…"
“How Long have you been here?” Finn asked, knowing it was a long time, but all of the people had sort of blurred together for him.
"My whole life." she replied, "You?" she asked, knowing he had probably been here quite a while too
“Me too,” he added quietly. “I wish that I could say otherwise, though. I’ve always wanted to see the world.” He smiled sadly.
"Oh, so you've never been outside in like…ever?" she asked, a concerned look coming across her face
“I’ve been outside, but only in like the courtyard and stuff,” he explained. “I’ve never left this building.” He looked at the ground, somewhat ashamed.
"Well, maybe we can escape this place someday" she replied, not knowing that her saying that might've insinuated them being a couple
Finn didn’t even notice the possible insinuation. “What if,” he whispered conspiratorially, “We escaped this place tonight?” A mischievous smile lit up his face.
"R-really?" she asked, a blush coming to her face in a lighter shade
“Yeah,” Finn said. “I’ve been wanting to for a while, but if I have a partner in crime it’ll be way more enjoyable.” He grinned.
"That sounds awesome!" she replied, making sure nobody heard them
Finn’s smile made his entire face light up. “Really?” He asked, happiness coming off of him in waves. He looked so hopeful as he turned to her with a look of wonder.
"Yeah! We can get food from the cafeteria and money from our parents." she replied, knowing they'd probably have to take a bus
Finn deflated when she mentioned parents. “I don’t…have parents,” he admitted, feeling stupid.
"Oh" she mumbled. "We can be our own parents" she replied
“Yeah,” Finn agreed, visibly less excited. He offered her another smile, but it was strained. “My mom did leave me some money.”
Her smiled weakened as well, "We could use that" she replied, "I'm sure she'd want you to do what you wanted
to" she added
Finn nodded. “Yeah,” he agreed. “I bet she would. So what time should we leave? It’d need to be when everyone else is asleep.” He changed the subject as he felt tears prick his vision. He wasn’t going to cry, especially after just meeting this girl.
"Maybe 12 oclock tonight? But we'd have to leave through a back hall or something so the overnight nurses don't see us"
“Yeah, I have a map in my room,” he said. “I’ve sort of planned parts of this already. I know this place like the back of my hand.”
(I'm gonna go to sleep for the night. Bye)
Night//
Otis slammed down his book,
"I am SO tired of this place." He looked over at some of his fellow patients, who were huddled together. “Uh, guys?” he asked. “What-what are you doing?” Otis approached the group. “Is this what I think it is?” he asked in his light, soft voice.
Finn turned to Otis, suspicion clouding his brow. “What do you think it is?” He asked calmly, looking composed despite his thin, frail stature. He studied Otis, trying not to act suspicious.
Otis backed away slightly. He HATED being looked in the eye. "N-nothing…nevermind. just thought you guys were gonna escape…." he said, saying the word "escape" in a soft whisper.
"Possibly" she mumbled, looking back over at Otis
Finn looked between the two of them, a little annoyed with Lilith so disclosing information so freely, as he assessed. “Maybe,” He said to Otis. “Why?”
