Abana felt suprised by the sudden order she recieved. She collected the staff and escorted them to the throne room, then stood by the door.
Floyd heard the order to go to the throne room and grew curious. He decided to accompany his sister, and they went upstairs to the crowded room. They stayed slightly away from the crowed, lingering near one of the walls. His height still unfortunately made him stand out slightly next to his shorter sister.
Cassie wiped under her eyes, and he put an arm around her shoulders in a comforting manner. “I thought the technology worked completely fine,” he said to her.
“Believe me, I thought it did too. I don’t know how this could have happened so fast,” the blonde responded, looking up at Floyd with teary hazel eyes.
Abana felt akward. Well, better than no job at all.
Once the large room had filled up, Ace stood, scanning the crowd with a dark expression etched across his features. He raised a hand, a silent command for everybody to quiet down as he wanted to speak. As the staff's idle chatter hushed.
"As you all know my father is dead." He said, his usual playful character fading away into a more serious and stoic persona.
"He left his kingdom to me, and with that being said you all work for me now. I want the lower ranking reapers to go door to door, and spread the news that there will be a coronation in a couple of days." It was a scary sight, seeing the usually chipper personality leave the nineteen year old the only thing left being anger and denial.
"I would like to have a meeting with Commander Robinson and Captain Benton. You are all dismissed." He waved them off, making his way down the stairs, standing by the last step watching as they all exited the gigantic room.
Sorry that took so long, I started writing and then had to do my homework and take a shower XD THE POWER OF PROCRASTINATION! Although i will probably be on all of April Vacation. Also, i was just re-reading everything and realized that he still has that chocolate bar in his pocket XD My plan was to give it to someone, I just can't remember who…oh well..lets just forget that minor detail.
(Lmao same on the procrastination part tho.)
Floyd frowned to himself as he watched Ace. He wasn’t fond of the boy in this state. He seemed like a completely different person at the moment.
He stood in his spot for a second, watching Ace with a worried expression.
“Floyd, come on!” His sister called, who had already started to leave.
He stuffed his hand into the pockets of his trench coat and slouched his shoulders, walking over to his sister and leaving the room.
Floyd then left the castle, deciding to just head home. He walked the short distance to the small cabin-like home that doubled as a blacksmith shop where his older brother worked. His brother greeted him upon his arrival, but Floyd simply waved and trudged up the stairs to his bedroom, where he collapsed on the bed on his back.
After watching everyone leave, the facade he had put up broke, his shoulders fell as he made his way down the hallways.
He stopped at a set of doors, the reapers standing outside opened the door for him. As he entered the room he found two older men inside.
"Commander Robinson." Ace greeted the graying man as he bowed, giving him a slight nod.
"Captain Benton." He acknowledged the newer reaper with another nod of his head.
"Commander, Captain I have noticed you both have been tired lately, you need to spend time with your families. You are fifty seven years old, Robinson. Benton, you are Fifty four. I think we all know it's time to retire." The youngest of the three men decided.
"I think we agree with you, your majesty." Captain Benton said, nodding.
"I thank you both for your service, you where brave Reapers." He stretched out his arm, shaking hands with the Ex-Commander and Captain.
"No, thank you for allowing us to serve so long. Now, about our position's-" Before he could finish, Ace cut him off.
"I know who will be taking your places, and I ask you to trust me on this. I know my father had been watching a young Abana, who, might I add is extremely talented with all the work she has done." He spoke, so confidently the retired Reapers knew for sure there would be no trying to change his mind. "She would make an excellent Captain. The commander position however, I have reserved for someone I am sure saved me from going mad."
The nineteen year old smiled, before adding;
"Ever heard of Floyd Hunter?"
There was a knock on Floyd’s bedroom door, and he grunted with annoyance when his brother came in. The older 26 year old looked like Floyd, having the same color hair and hazel eyes.
“Boxing lessons, come on. We both need a distraction,” he said.
“Seriously?” Floyd groaned and sat up in bed.
“Yes, seriously. Get your lazy arse up and ready. Be in the basement in five or I’ll kick your arse here and now,” the man called from the hall.
Floyd huffed and got out of bed slowly. He quickly changed into a white tshirt and basketball shorts. He slipped his tennis shoes on and jogged down to the basement where his brother was already waiting.
“I have a winning streak going,” his brother announced, “So I’m am definitely not loosing to you.”
“Yeah, we’ll see about that!” Floyd challenged in a determined tone. He had never beaten his older brother in a boxing match before, but he was determined to now.
Sadly, that did not happen. In just a few minutes, Floyd was on the ground. His face and rubs felt bruised, and he could taste blood in his mouth. “Bastard!” He exclaimed, spitting blood onto the concrete.
Making his way (Downtown walking fast, faces pass- sorry.) through the busy streets the black haired trainee stopped in front of the blacksmiths shop, politely knocking on the door before silently waiting.
(Lol.)
Floyd was getting up when he heard the knocking on the door upstairs.
“Go get the door, I better clean some of this blood up. Cassie wouldn’t be happy to come home and see this,” his brother said, searching for a towel.
He nodded and trudged up the stairs. There was a bruise beginning to form on his cheekbone, and blood was dribbling from his nose and a mall cut on his lip. His whole body ached and felt sore with every movement he made.
Floyd opened the door and looked at the trainee. He ignored the urge to feel ashamed at his appearance, as it looked like he got the shit beaten out of him, which wasn’t completely wrong either. “Can I help you?”
The thirteen year old's eyes widened with a mixture of surprise and concern. Ignoring this, he took out a small letter, the royal family crest- a death sythe- was stamped onto the front.
He opened the envelope and read the letter out loud;
" I, the Reaper King, hereby make you, Floyd Hunter, the new Commander of the Onyx Reapers.
We hope to see you lead these elite soldiers with grace and determination.
Many Thanks and Congratulations
-Ace Dunn "
The small boy handed the letter over to Floyd, congratulating him on the promotion before running off and back to the academy.
The whole time the letter was being read, Floyd simply stood there in shock. Commander? He grew excited, knowing that it would bring his family a bit more money, which they seriously needed. He decided not to bother his brother right then, so he decided to tell his sister about it.
He jogged to the castle and went inside, wiping a bit of blood from his lip and onto the back of his hand. He went down to the lab area, typing in the entrance code his sister had given him.
“Cassie!” He exclaimed upon arriving, and the short blond looked over at him.
“What is it? And what happened to your face? Did Nick hurt you again?” She questioned, heading over to him.
“First off, yes this was Nick’s doing. I think he bruised a rib or two, so I’m going to need pain pills. Also, look!” He shoved the letter into her hands quickly.
Cassie read over it, mouthing the words to herself. She looked back up at Floyd and squealed in delight, throwing her arms around his neck in a hug. “Oh my god, this is amazing, Floyd!”
When Ace was informed that the letters where delivered he felt a small satisfied tug, he was roaming the many empty corridors, absentmindedly rubbing the freshly branded arm. Sure, he had many complicated tattoos permanently etched onto his body, but this one was special. It was time for change. While walking through the halls he heard a shrill squeal off in the background. Rolling his eyes in amusement he continued to make his way to his favorite part of the palace. The library.
“We can pay for rent on time now! A-and we can help pay Maman and Papa’s bills!” Cassie said, practically jumping up and down in excitement.
“I know! Now, I have to go do something, but first I’d love some pain medicine.” Floyd grinned, and his sister tossed him a small bottle. He took a few pills from it, swallowing them dry.
“What’s so important to do now?” The short girl questioned.
“I need to go find that spot where the former king was infected,” he said in a low tone so only she could hear.
“What?!” Cassie cried before whisper yelling, “That’s insane!”
“I’ll make sure to not touch anything. I just need to really see what te levels say. Don’t tell anyone, okay? If anyone asks for me, say I went to visit our parents.”
“You better not get sick! Just try to be home soon, we are going out to dinner to celebrate.” She sighed slowly.
Floyd nodded and left to change into a pair of cargo pants and boots before heading back to the castle. He went to the top level and to the elevator, scanning hi card. The doors slid open and he stepped in, pressing the ‘up’ button.
Ace sat on a plush chair in his fathers library. the only light source needed was the fire that was set before him. He smiled, flipping through the pages of the aged book.
"Daisies." He whispered, comparing the picture in the book to the small flower resting in the vase on the table next to him. "Bellis perennis, a common European species of daisy of the Asteraceae family, often considered the archetypal species of that name." Running his fingers over the pictures of the simple flower he felt a small tug in his chest.
"You may not be as complex looking as Begonia's or Orchids, but you are by far my favorite." He murmured, chuckling to himself at the thought of him talking to the flower.
"Look at me, my fathers dead- I had two of my best Reapers retire, my coronation's in a week- and here I am-talking to a flower." He leaned over the arm of the chair, resting his elbow on the small table and putting his face in his hand. He smiled, admiring the simple blossom.
Just as he reached out a hand to touch it, the library door opened.
"Your majesty," The timid and embarrassed voice belonged to a maid, "I hate to be a bother, but the council wishes to speak with you."
Ace sighed, turning so his back was to the door, slumping down in his seat he sighed.
"Well shit."
Floyd stepped out of the elevator once it stopped, and he climbed up a short ladder that led to a hatch. He popped the hatch open with a hiss, and squinted from the bright sunlight and he slid out into the upper world. He shut the hatch again and locked it tight.
There was a buzz on a walkie talkie that was attactched to his belt. “Floyd? It’s Ryan. Where are you?” His old partners voice crackled through the speaker.
He took it up, pressing a button down on the side of it. “I’m up above, keep quiet about it, yeah?”
“You’re up there?” His partners voice asked, “You shouldnt be up there! I thought they were going to close it off!”
“Well keep ‘em stalled for a few minutes. I’m just checking something.” He put the walkie talkie back in its place, knowing that the other man would not be happy about this.
The dry earth crunched under Floyd’s boots as he followed the markers that were used to keep track of where the group had previously gone.
As Ace followed the short red-headed maid, he whispered profanities under his breath, once he reached the meeting room, he opened the door, walking in and finding all but one of the seats around the long table was filled. They all rose, bowing to their soon-to-be- king before sitting back down.
"King Ace, it is a pleasure to see you again, I assume you know why we brought you here?" A highbrow looking old man asked, standing up from his seat .
"I believe you are here to tell me I need to find myself a wife again? Or are you going to tell me how to run my kingdom?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Sir, we do not want to tell you how to control your kingdom, we just want to he-" The blue eyed royal cut him off angrily.
"That is exactly what you are doing! I know what is best for my kingdom, and I don't need permission from an old snobby man like you," he growled, face turning red from anger. "My father trusted that the kingdom would be safe in my hands! MY hands, not a dried up old prune who only cares about what he wants! I love my people, and that means I will do anything I can to protect them, so I thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your time." He hissed, bowing to them mockingly before storming down the hallway, the crimson headed maid following quickly behind him.
( Me being the stupid guy I am, forgot to make the page about Astenford Hill public, I did fix it! I'm up for a while longer..WALKING DEAD IS OON!)
Ryan bolted through the halls, attempting to find someone who could drag Floyd back. He spotted the new king and hesitantly jogged over. “Sir? There’s an issue. Floyd Hunt, he went to the outside world. It’s really not safe, and they are closing it off soon,” The younger man explained.
Floyd walked quickly now, the sun growing hot. He stopped by a small path of dead grass where the flags stopped. He took out the radiation measurer and checked a Sam,e of the dirt, but it came back positive for radiation.
He frowned and collected a palm full on his gloved hand, studying the grains. He would need to bring some back for his sister to study.
Ace whipped around, his eyes widening at the news.
"Why haven't I heard of this? If the general is to make a choice like that I am the one he has to run it by." He growled, his eyebrows furrowed angrily.
Sighing, the king thought for a second.
"Inform the reapers that we are going to hold off the closing up of the surface," He decided, nodding as he thought, "Get a team of reapers together and meet me by the opening in ten." He concluded, turning away from Ryan before making his way to his room to change back into his beloved leather Onyx Reaper jacket.
"C'mon Floyd, I just lost my father, I can't lose my best friend too."
“Yes, sir!” Ryan said quickly, running off to go gather a few other Reapers.
Floyd inhaled sharply. The air seemed completely fine to him. He crouched, digging into the dirt for a minute with his fingers. He coughed lightly and adjusted the grey bandana that covered his mouth.
He froze when his fingers his something large and solid in the dirt. He dug quicker, moving the dirt aside until he pulled out a large green rock that was about the size of his fist. It seemed to pulse with energy, causing him to frown.
Floyd held the scanner next to it, and the levels suddenly shot up. ‘They couldn’t pick it up because it was deeper,’ he thought. He dropped the rock and threw off his most likely tainted glove. He removed a plastic bag from his jacket pocket and collected the rock and a bit of the dirt into it, sealing it shut.
After changing, Ace made his way to the exit, there he found a small group of reapers.
"Let's go." He commanded, as he walked through the opened the door. The sunlight temporarily blinding him as he allowed his blue eyes to adjust. He looked around, he could clearly see small groupings of grass that had been slowly growing back.
"Wow." He whispered in awe, walking forward just a bit.
"Somebody give me their radio." He ordered, holding out his arm. A small radio was dropped into his hand, bringing to his face he spoke.
"Floyd?" He asked, running his free hand through his blonde head of hair.
"Floyd c'mon! I can't hear you Floyd? Fl-" All he got back was a very quiet-almost silent- reply and loud static, "Dammit!" he screamed, his voice cracking slightly as he threw it back to the Reaper that gave it to him. "We gotta find Floyd, he can't end up like my father."
Floyd thought he heard a voice in the distance and looked around, but shrugged. He carried the bag in his gloved hand as he followed the bright orange markers that led to the hatch.
The wind picked up, and he rubbed dust from his eyes with his non gloved hand. He spotted a leaf that was on the ground and stopped. He crouched and picked it up, turning it over in his fingers. He chuckled to himself and let it flutter away in the wind before continuing down the path.
A large reaper who-strangely enough- had purple hair (He he using my other beautiful child Damian :>) lead the group ahead, making sure they all understood the orders to stand in a circle around the King.
"If he's smart- and he is, I believe he would have followed the markers, or put down some of his own." the reaper -he now knew as Damian- said, his voice tough and gravelly.
"Oh he's far from smart! When we save his ass- I'm gonna kill him!" Ace growled, hands clenched into a fist at his sides, "We have never executed any one before Publicly I am going to make sure we have a guillotine made special for him!" he crossed his arms, eyes narrowing slightly, wincing out of pain as he looked down at his now unwrapped arm.
"What is it your majesty," an older trainee-that Ace had guessed was about seventeen- asked eyeing the small, and simple tattoo.
"It's just a small tattoo, it wouldn't really make sense to you I suppose." He said shrugging to himself, "But it means a lot to me."
"Really? Cool! I've decided when I'm old enough to get a tattoo i'm going to get my older sisters na-" The trainee was quickly shut up by his mentor, a small woman who looked to be about forty.
"Shut it Roberts, we don't need any distractions, we're on a mission, remember?" Her tired voice scolded him.
Ace stayed silent, watching as the curious trainee returned to the outer ring.
"I swear to god if I don't find that foolhardy, imbecilic idiot soon, I'm going to leave him out here and have the opening filled in with cement!"
Floyd kept walking, and soon saw the group in the distance. He slowed to a stop and looked at them.
“Fuck..” he muttered slowly. He was sure to get hell for this. But he was only trying to help.
Maybe Ace would understand. He did find some evidence on what could have killed his father. He looked down at the stone that was in the plastic bag. He had never seen a stone like that before. Maybe Cassie had.
The group stopped, Damian holding out his arm and signalling the group to stop.
"That's our guy." Damian announced, lowering his arm. Ace looked over, noticing the familiar head of brown hair.
"Floyd!" The young king yelled, running over to the much taller man, wrapping his arms around him
"You-you-" He said almost in a whisper, before pushing Floyd away slightly before taking him by his ear so they where eye level, "You filho da puta! You had me worried sick! NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!" He screamed in the taller boys face, only to bring him into a tight hug.
"I was worried sick you idiota." he murmured, holding him tighter.
Floyd was startled the whole time by the younger boys attitude. “Jesus, Ace, I’m fine. I just wanted to check some things out.”
He hugged the younger boy back loosely, bring careful not to touch him with the bag, just in case. “Let’s just go back, and I can tell you what I found.”
He let Ace go and adjusted the bandana that was put over his mouth. He walked with the boy back to the group, his posture stiff.
The blue eye'd boy followed, relieved that his best-and probably only-friend was indeed alive.
Damian silently saluted his king and Commander, the rest of the group copying him.
"Honestly Floyd, you had me worried sick! I thought you where dead! And before I showed you my new tattoo!" he exclaimed, tugging at his sleeve so that it reached his elbow.
A small inked daisy sat on his arm, the flowers almost reaching his wrist. He smiled at the simple outline of it, it was very basic, sure, but it was something that he held very dear.
"I sat in my fathers office, looking at the flower and decided I wanted to remember it forever, so that's what I got done!" He said, voice quiet, becoming shy, a few strands of his golden hair falling into his face as he walked in step with the much taller reaper.
"So, what did you want to show me?" He asked, voice full of curiosity.
Floyd looked at his wrist and chuckled, shaking his head. “Looks good,” he commented. “And it’s this.”
He showed him the strange rock that was still in the bag, but he wasn’t about to let him even touch the bag.
“I found it at the, er, spot. They were right, the dirt or air was clean, but this thing is completely lethal. I really hope it’s fine in this bag and that it can’t seep through my glove..” He said, trailing off.
They got back inside and Floyd still held onto the bag. “I was going to get it to Cassie so she could run some tests on it.”
"What the actual fuck…" he questioned, narrowing his eyes at the stone, tilting his head to the side, "You tell Cassie to be careful with that thing..she may be good, but we don't know what that is…" he said, worried for the health of his friends.
"I wonder if it is some kind of technology from the pre-war era…or something like that." He said, lost in thought, "I read something about large moving houses, they flew up in the sky and lots of people would get on! Maybe it's part of that..I think it was called a Hairplane? Something like that…" He said, more whispering to himself than sharing his idea out loud.
(Okay but i asked my sister for help on this and she joked about people from the past hearing about airplanes and was like what if they where all like yo hairplane? you high bro? and it just made me laugh XDD)
