Joanna climbed the rugged terrain. Once she passed through the boarder of the city, the ground was much more rocky and uneven. Her foot slipped and she let out a yelp as she grabbed with her hand at a sturdy rock.
Joanna climbed the rugged terrain. Once she passed through the boarder of the city, the ground was much more rocky and uneven. Her foot slipped and she let out a yelp as she grabbed with her hand at a sturdy rock.
Sam heard the yelp that occurred and stopped in his tracks, the dragon disappearing. Carefully and slowly he headed in the direction it came from, once hand in close reach of his sword if he needed to use it.
Joanna cursed herself. "Stupid," she muttered, pulling herself up and onto a firm ledge. "Someone could have heard you."
"Someone did hear you." Sam said, still standing in the shadows away from view, arms crossed across his chest.
"Ah!" Joanna faltered for a moment, scrambling for her bow. She drew an arrow smoothly and aimed it… Where? There was no one. "Who said that?" she demanded firmly.
Sam chuckled, although it didn't sound like it was coming from a single source, "What are you doing in this area?"
She shot an arrow at a nearby crevice, thinking someone was there. It simply flattered around before falling, useless to the ground. "Depends on who's asking," she retorted, quickly docking another arrow.
"Look, Miss I'm not here to hurt you, I just want to know what you're doing so far out of the city this late at night." Sam took a step out of the darkness, it somehow seemed to move around him, almost looking like it radiated off of his body in some places, especially around his hands.
"I'm just… Couldn't sleep?" You're an awful liar… "Anyway, why does it matter?" she asked sharply.
Sam frowned and put his hands in his pockets, walking towards her, "It matters, because you are in dangerous territory."
"I can handle myself," Joanna retorted, tightening her grip. "I'm not a princess."
"I understand. You're lucky I was the one to find you, the others would have killed you on the spot." Sam said, standing a few feet away from her.
"Don't make me shoot you," she threatened as he got closer.
"Annnd there's the threat, you lasted longer then the other did." Sam smirked slightly.
"The- The other?" Joanna faltered greatly.
"The last wandering soul who came through here. He lasted a whole two minutes before threatening to kill me. You lasted five." Sam replied, shrugging.
Joanna's fingers trembled. "So does this mean that you're going to kill me?"
"No." Sam said quickly, "You have two options, go back the way you came and I'll pretend I never saw you, or you can kill me and get back to doing what you were doing."
"I don't want to kill you," she said before she could think. A weakness. She just laid it right out there. She muttered to herself darkly.
Sam’s mouth twitched up slightly, “Why not? My people and I are hunted so surely killing me will make you a hero.”
"You-You're a magic user?!" she cried in disbelief.
Sam nodded and started to circle the girl, “What’s your name?”
"Joanna," she replied tightly, her arrow following him. "Yours?"
“Sam, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He said, placing a hand on his chest and bowing slightly.
Joanna nodded curtly. "So… Sam… what's next? Are you going to bewitch me with your magic?"
“I already told you, either go home or kill me.” Sam replied, shrugging and putting a hand in his pockets.
Joanna stayed firm. "I'm not going home and I don't want to kill you. Is there an 'in between the lines' option?"
Sam stopped in his tracks, “Why don’t you want to go home?”
"I don't like it there. Why is it your business?"
Sam shrugged, “Just wondering.”
