She blushed. "It was nothing…"
She blushed. "It was nothing…"
"It would have cost me my life so thank you,"
"You're welcome," she replied, looking into his eyes. She'd never stopped smoothing his hair.
There was something about her, something different that he still couldn't figure out, he tried to sit up a little and winced as he did so. "Who are you?"
"No," she said, pushing him back down gently. "You'll hurt yourself if you try to sit up."
"I'm sure I will be okay. Can I least know your name?" He was beginning to see how she avoided the question of 'who are you?'
"Moxiey," she revealed.
“And what are you doing alone on the rocks?” He asked with slight concern. “What if you slip into the water like I did?”
"I… I was singing."
Elijah laughed, "I heard, it was beautiful but isn't it dangerous to be all alone out here?"
"No, you don't need to worry about me. I'm fine," Moxiey said quickly.
"If you're so sure…" his eyes were finally allowing him to focus as he looked into her eyes, "Your hair is a cool color,"
"Oh. Thanks," she said, smiling shyly.
"Do you live around here?"
"Uh, yeah. Pretty close." She wasn't lying…
"I've never seen you before, trust me I'd remember a face like yours," he said, attempting to sit up again.
She pushed him down again. "Uh… well… I'm not from a very well-known city."
"Really? Where from?" he looked around, slightly annoyed at she wouldn't let him get up when his eyes stopped, "Wait what's that?" he tried to sit up just a little to see her tail.
Moxiey flicked her tail out of sight, noticing his gaze. "Nothing."
"No wait what was that? It was definitely something," It wasn't just that he hit his head right? It was something.
"Uh…" she faltered greatly. You're screwed. Go away, now!
"Sorry… I didn't want you to be uncomfortable…"
"No, it's… it's fine…" GO!
"Okay… Do you come to the beach often?"
"Every day," she replied, making sure to keep her tail out of sight.
"Wow, impressive," he joked playfully. "Maybe we should go boating or something sometime? I have a boat but I just moved here and haven't gotten the chance to bring it out,"
"Oh, um, I don't know…"
“You can’t tell me you’re afraid of the water. You dove in to save me and you come here every day,”
"I'm not," she said quickly, holding back a laugh. A mermaid afraid of water.
*Maybe it's me? Maybe it's me she doesn't want to be around. That explains why she's uncomfortable, "Anyways… Sorry to bother you but I at least owe you dinner or something… You saved my life,"
