Rupert said, “While we’re waiting…. what do you want to talk about?”
Rupert said, “While we’re waiting…. what do you want to talk about?”
Jace wiggled on the chair. “How long did you have this house?” He squeaked the question.
“Ahh… about thirty years?” Rupert said. “I grew up here.”
Jace blinked. “That’s a lot!” He giggled and pet Bruno the best he could with his smol arms.
“Yeah, I guess it is,” Rupert sighed. “Ah! Here’s Willems with the spaghettioes!”
Jace sat up quickly, almost hitting his head on the table. “Yaaay!”
Williems sat the bowls down and bowed away.
Rupert nodded his thanks to Willems and smiled at Jace. “You really like this pasta stuff, huh?”
Jace nodded and picked up his desert spoon. “It’s so good! I had it once… and never… had it again…”
Rupert nodded. “Well, you can have it as much as you want here.”
Jace gave a toothy grin. “Really? Thank you, sir!”
“You’re welcome,” Rupert smiled.
Jace looked down at Bruno after eating and comtinued petting him, giggling. “I love Bruno! He’s so nice!”
“He is, isn’t he?” Rupert said happily. “I’ve had him for forever.”
Jace giggled as the dog licked his hands. “Oh, wait, does that mean he’s old??”
“He’s a bit old, yeah,” Rupert sighed. “He belonged to my wife, first.”
Jace tilted his head. “You had a wife?” He asked the question gently, yet squeakily, as always.
Rupert paused before answering with false cheerfulness. “Yep. Her name was (thinks of name) Helen.”
(best name)
Jace grinned brightly at Rupert, sensing his change in mood. “Do you… have ice cream?” He glanced around as if expecting to see some nearby.
//XD
“Yeah, I can ask Willems to get some,” Rupert said quickly, standing up.
Jace wiggled in his seat. “I’m sorry, sir.” He gazed up at Rupert with wide eyes.
“For what?” Rupert said absently. “No, it’s no problem.”
Jace wiggled off of his chair and bounded over to Rupert, grabbing his hand. “Don’t be sad, please!”
Rupert laughed, but there was no humor in the sound. “I’m not sad, Jace. Don’t worry.”
Jace frowned a little and hugged Rupert’s legs. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” Rupert said, placing his hand on Jace’s shoulder but not pushing him away.
Jace’s mouth went straight and he let Rupert go. “Okay!”
Rupert, in a desperate attempt to change the subject, said, “How about we go down to the kitchen and get the ice cream (it was ice cream right) ourselves?”
(Yes it was ice cream)
Jace nodded. “Iiiiiiiice creeeeeeeaaaaam!” He exclaimed happily in a singsong voice.
//:D
Rupert laughed. “This way!” He led Jace to the kitchen.
Jace tailed Rupert to the kitchen, singing as any kid would about ice cream. Jace loved ice cream, obviously, because he had it so fleetingly. Sure, the change in lifestyles was different, but it was a good one.
