"Is your grandma still alive?" Bo asked softly.
"Is your grandma still alive?" Bo asked softly.
"No… shot down trying to save a dragon." Bo mutters, looking up.
"That was….the same as mine. My grandad died saving my dad from….from Toothless. The Bewilderbeast made him do it. We know it's not his fault, but sometimes Toothless just needs a while."
Bo looks up. "You've seen a Bewilderbeast?!" He cries. "Of course you have. You have a night fury." He sighs and leans back.
"What? No! The Night Fury is my dad's. I have a Stormcutter. And no! I haven't seen a Bewilderbeast! I wasn't born!"
Bo raises a brow. "Alright. Whatever." he sighs softly, leaning back.
"How did you meet Dagger?"
Bo hums in thought. "I found him injured from trappers. I was breaking into one of their ships to help the dragons to escape." He says, shrugging. "I grabbed him and quickly tamed him so we could both get out of there. It took some time, but he stuck around."
"And now you can't imagine life without him," Ireth said. She giggled as Silvernose nudged her. "I'm the same with Silvy."
He nods and smiles a little. "I can't imagine a life without him and I don't want to imagine a world without him." He says softly.
Ireth was about to say something more when Astrid ran in.
Bo looks up and stands, fear across his face. "W-well?" He asks weakly.
"Before we go, you need to tell me about it Ireth," Astrid said. "This cannot wait. You know what happens."
Bo walks weakly towards the door. "I'll let you two talk."
Astrid and Ireth watched him leave. Ireth spent about five minutes telling her mother what happened before they both walked outside.
Bo was outside the building looking up at the sky. He was humming faintly under his breath as he gazed across the sky.
"Wait mum. What's the plan?" Ireth asked Astrid as she started walking into the great hall.
"We're leaving tomorrow morning." Ireth looked at the darkening sky.
"Do you think dad would mind if I borrowed Toothless?"
Bo's eyes widen. "Tomorrow morning? No… We need… We need to move now… More and more of my people are dying. E-every second dragons are dying of being taken hostage. Please…".
"I'm so sorry Bo, but we can't leave any earlier than tomorrow morning. We just can't," Astrid replied sympathetically.
Bo falls to his knees, holding his head. He lets out a quiet sob. Now how was he supposed to save his home?
Astrid didnt know what to do but Ireth immediately knelt down and gave Bo a hug, thinking that it was the least she could do.
Bo leans into her touch, feeling desperate and scared. How was he supposed to… His entire village could be dead by the time they reached the small island.
"I'm sorry that we can't go any earlier," Ireth whispered. "But my father's the chief and as you know he has last say." She looked at the sky. "It's getting dark. Do you want to go for a ride?"
He nods. "Th-that would help." he says quietly. He stands and gives a sharp whistle. Dagger perks from his perch and flies towards his rider. He greets the boy with a gentle nuzzle.
"I kinda meant did you wanna go for a ride on the back of a Night Fury."
"Mmm… I'll stick with Dagger." Bo chuckles and Dagger nuzzles him happily.
"OK, well, I'm gonna use Toothless. Silvernose doesn't like nighttime flights that much."
"Alright." Bo answers, smiling a little at the affection from Dagger.
Ireth giggled a little at the interaction between Bo and Dagger. She'd never met anyone who understood or loved dragons as much as her: parents don't count. Did she….. Like him? "I'm….. Gonna go get Toothless. Be back soon." She ran off.
Bo nods and watches her go. He pets Dagger gently, nuzzling him in reply.
