Lilah frowned. "How so?"

"We weren't… just… we're more of a knight family. Such as you can see from my build." He gestured to himself. "I never work out. Never. I just… look this way because it's genetic!" He huffed a sigh. "We got married into royalty and the family name's regretted it ever since."

Lilah rolled her eyes at the "build" statement.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find a way to clear it," she assured him.

Cameron grunted. "I suppose but the plan is to end it with myself. I don't want our legacy to end in shambles, but that's what my parents want." He scowled. "You have to end it, Cameron! It's a perrrfect chaaanceee," He said in an angrily mocking tone.
Cameron shook his head, realizing how ridiculous of a thing to complain about it was. "Sorry, I get pretty upset about it."

"What do you mean, 'end it'?" Lilah asked, cocking her head to the side as she took a bite of her cake.

"Don't marry anyone. End the line." Cameron sighed and his posture deflated. "I don't want to do that, but…"

"Your parents don't want you to marry? That's ridiculous! You should be able to choose your own path in life," Lilah huffed. Obviously, this was a touchy subject.

"Yeah, they said instead of going through the oh sooo long process of changing my last name, to just not marry anyone. Maybe like… a pheasant or something." He scoffed and wrinkled his nose.

(He should marry a bird…? Lol.)

"What's wrong with peasants?" Lilah questioned Cameron.

(crap was i spelling that wrong? xD)

"There's nothing wrong with them. Yet my parents would then complain that they didn't make any money from our marriage. Therefore, I have decided it's…unfortunately, pointless to marry."

(Hahaha! Yeah…)

"Hm…" Lilah looked off as she took the last bite of her cheesecake. "Well, I hope you can do better than that."

(oofs)

"I don't think I'll be able to," He grumbled, not realizing the riskiness of that until it was far too late.

Oh my god.

Lilah felt her cheeks heat up, and she glanced at Cameron out if the corner of her eye. Whether or not she was blushing from embarrassment or… something else, she couldn't tell.

"Isn't that what you were invited you here for?" she asked quietly.

Cameron coughed gently, his own face rising in color quickly. "Yes, but… you invited me. I… had to come."

Her handwriting is exquisite! Williams gushed in Cameron's ear. You must go, I'll inform your parents. This is the chance you've been waiting for!

Anger. It was probably anger she was blushing from.

She stood and set her plate in a sink.

"You could have said no. You didn't have to come. I mean, since you got here I haven't seen you even look like you want to be here!" Lilah exclaimed.

"I know, but that's because I didn't think… you were interested in me. I mean, I don't know if you are," He said quickly, turning red, "but… I didn't think I'd enjoy myself like this."

"But you admit that you don't want to be here?" Lilah questioned him, crossing her arms.

"I wouldn't say that…" He cocked his head to the side, realizing he made a mistake. "I didn't want to be here at first. I thought it was a waste of time, since there'd be so many other Princes here, from so many other… more royal areas." He dipped his head. "I didn't think anyone would waste their time on a Metzler."

Lilah blinked. "O-oh… Well, you made yourself stand out, that's for sure…"

"Accidentally, may I say." Cameron shrugged and straightened up on the wall again. "Anyway, it… is worth it, now that I know you." He grinned at her shyly. "No one's… made me feel like this. Important and wanted."

Whelp. There goes her anger…

Lilah looked down and bit her lip. "Well, I, uh… ahem… I'm… glad…?"

Cameron shrugged. "Sorry… that was…" He inhaled. "Uncalled for."

"No, it was okay. Just… unexpected, is all," Lilah said quietly, combing her fingers through her hair.

Cameron's gaze flitted to his feet and he rubbed the back of his head. He nodded gently in response to what she said and cringed at his stupidity.
What a dumb thing to say. Way to go, me!

"So how was the cheesecake?" Noah asked, walking up with his girlfriend beside him. He took a look at their faces and frowned. "It wasn't that bad, was it?"

Cameron mumbled something indistinct, finding it appropriate not to say anything after making a fool of himself. Sure, the cheesecake was amazing, but he didn't… want to make more of a fool of himself.

"It was great, Noah," Lilah sighed. "Could you, um, go hang out with your girlfriend?"

"Right, right. Sorry, yeah. I didn't realize I was interrupting something," the baker rambled. "C'mon, Hun, let's go… Make something…"

Cameron cleared his throat gently as the barker walked off. "I'm sorry, Lilah, it was… really uncalled for. I…"
