"Kept what a secret?" He turned around but kept his face looking down. Did she find out? And how? It was probably Xavier. If he could unconvince her of what he thinks is going on that would be amazing.

Kate shook her head. "Don't make me feel like a fool." She felt guilty for saying it but it was true. "Why didn't you just tell me? Or Xavier? Or someone?" She sighed.

"I've seen you around many times bit was to scared to talk to you until Xavier did. You two hit it off, I wasn't about to get in the way of that." To late to keep it a secret now. It didn't matter anyway, he was leaving tomorrow.

"Why didn't you at least tell Xavier?" She brushed her hair behind her ear. "I mean, you shouldn't keep secrets from someone you're so close with." The hair fell back onto her face. "I haven't kept anything from Xavier. If he had known, who knows."

"So, you wanted me to just walk up to him and say. Hey Xavier I'm in love with the same girl you are, but go ahead and take her because I'm to chicken to tell her and all I can do is watch from afar." He blurted out, then looked away. This is completely embarrassing and he had no idea why he was even telling her this.

"I don't know." She looked up at the ceiling again. A sudden cold brushed upon her skin making her shiver. She brought her legs back up on the hospital bed and laid the blanket on top. When am I going to stop getting cold so easily? "I don't know what you should have said. But it's. It's not the secret that makes me upset. It's you giving up on yourself."

That stung a bit, because it was true. She wouldn't have liked him anyway if she knew how he really was and what he did. "I gave up on myself a long time ago." Finally his blue eyes met hers. Even when she looked like this, he was still attracted to her. Damn it! "Xavier still would have gotten you even if I was the first to confess." This has happened many times with them, Ty had just gotten used to it.

"How would you know?" She kept eye contact, his eyes like icy blue, cold daggers. "You didn't try until it was too late." The words that came out of her mouth shocked her. The exact same words had come from her mother's mouth, just filled with acid. Her mind filled with a memory. A red car, easily seen. But so should have Cally with her yellow dress. "You didn't try until it was too late, Katelyn!" Her mother's voice hissed across her mind.

"You're hiding something. I would know because I look that way when I'm hiding something." Ty knew something was eating at her, but if she didn't want to share the she didn't have. "You don't have to tell me. I'm guessing Xavier has no idea though."

She snapped back from the memory. "I- uh- no. I mean, no one. Not. I'm. No." She took a deep breath. "No one knows but it's not a big deal." Liar.

"I killed someone." He knew this would shock her and probably make her not want to talk to him again. Then again he was leaving so it didn't matter. "It was purely self defense, but I got harassed at my old school, being called a murderer and whatnot." He threw his hands around while talking. "I had this girl I liked, and I told Xavier, he was all for it until she fell for him. I pulled away because I knew she liked him and well, Xavier gets whatever Xavier wants." He sighed and sat in a chair that was across the room. "So, you can kind of see my problem, no one wants to date a guy that's killed someone." Crossing his arms and legs, he looked Kate in the eye. "I like you Kate, and I should've told you sooner and I'm sorry." He mostly said sorry because he was leaving an wasn't going to tell her.

"Fudge." She put her head in her hands. "Fudge fudge fudge fudge." She looked at him, but only for a split second. "I killed my sister." Something changed. She wasn't sure if it was the relief of telling someone or the weight that dropped on her shoulder admitting it. "I'm not trying to, like, compare, but I get it. Sort of." She put her head back in her hands. "I've never told anyone this before." What are you doing? "Not even Xavier. I mean, I just. It was-" she cut herself off. "Sorry, no." She looked up to him and smiled. Sure, it was fake. But she tried. "Don't ever doubt yourself. Sometimes you've just got to jump before you can see how deep the canyon is."

"Don't fake smile at he me." He laughed. He was glad he knew a side of her the Xavier didn't. He would find out sooner or later. Is there anyway you could change your mind and pick me instead? He wished he could say it but that's stupid, Ty knew he liked her a lot more than Xavier though. "I killed my moms abusive ex boyfriend. I came hom from school to him when I was 15 to him holding a knife to my 10 year old sister. I wasn't just going to let it slide. My mom was supposedly 8n love with him though and blamed me, that's why I'm living with my grandmother, I get visits with my sister, but mom wants nothing to do with me. And my dad left us a long time ago." He smiled a gentle and genuine smile. "I just wanted you to know more about me before it's to late." He stood and walked over to her. "Bye." Just this once. He kissed her forehead and went to the door.

"Wait!" She stood up quickly. Too quickly. Everything swayed for a moment which made her sit down. "Where are you going?"

"Kate, I'm leaving." He gave her a sad smile before knocking on the door and Xavier opened it. "You done?" Ty patted his shoulder and walked out of the hospital. "Kate?" Xavier walked in. Something didn't feel right. Even Xavier was second guessing things. The look on her face was different. "Kate, we need to talk."

Kate couldn't believe what just happened. Both of them had said things that she doubted have been said to anyone else. She stared at the floor now, unable to look up at Xavier. "Okay."

"Ty's moving out of state." Xavier knew he wasn't going to be able to stop him. "And it's happening after school tomorrow." The picture, figuring out something was wrong with Kate before he did. Ty obviously paid more attention and cared more for her then Xavier did. Now that he thought about, maybe it was just attraction, he didn't even get to know her before they started dating, unlike Ty.
(Is it just me or does anyone else want Kate to end up with my poor baby Ty?)

"Why?" She stood up. "Did I do something wrong? Why so sudden? Why didn't he say anything?" The world went into a blurry merry go round as it spun. Her chest ached. She sank to the floor, the tubes gently feeding her air being pulled. She put her shoulder against the bed and closed her eyes. Why are you making such a big deal?

"No, it not your fault." That was a lie, but he wasn't only leaving because of Kate, no it was because of Xavier as well. "You should worry about getting better. You won't be able to see if off tomorrow if you're not better."

"Okay." This isn't okay. Everything felt so wrong. She could hear the lie in Xavier's voice. She took a deep breath, realizing she had not been breathing much as she needed to be. She got back up on the bed, legs hanging off the side. "What's wrong with me?"

"Nothings wrong with you." Xavier sat on the bed next to her, he reached out his hand to touch hers, but it felt wrong. "I'm sorry if I'm out of it, lots of things just happened. With the whole Ty thing. He's always been a bit over the top." Xavier laughed trying to lighten the mood.
(When should we meet up with them then?)

The mood didn't change. Kate could feel it, and she knew Xavier could too. It was an iron weight on their shoulders and it was about to be burning. "What about you? Over the top in a different sense." She wasn't sure why she had said it, but it brought a point. She could tell Xavier was always that perfect guy who could do everything better than everyone else. Maybe he wasn't trying, but did he ever think about how he was on top of everyone else? That sometimes the banner at the top of the mountain is all you can see? "I mean, one uping everyone, whether or not you mean to, is degrading to people. To Ty."
