“Ambrosia, but you can call me Amber,” she said, her hands going to her hips. “Xira.. That’s an interesting name,” she commented, her lips pursed. She glanced Xira over slowly, seemingly trying to figure her out.
“Ambrosia, but you can call me Amber,” she said, her hands going to her hips. “Xira.. That’s an interesting name,” she commented, her lips pursed. She glanced Xira over slowly, seemingly trying to figure her out.
"So is Ambrosia." She replied. Xira didn't think that her name was weird. She saw that Amber was looking her over. "Do you need something?" If she had questions she might as well ask. Xira eyed her just as much as Amber was eyeing Xira.
“Mm, no, not really,” Amber hummed, looking away and down at her nails for a moment. “What about those bad people you were talking about before? Were they cops? Because if you have drugs or something I can not get caught with those in my house again.”
"No I don't have drugs." Xira also looked away. "Can you seriously not tell that I'm not human? I mean I don't look like to very much." Her kind has been known to control one of the four elements. Some can use air while others earth. Xira on the other hand can control water. "Those people want me for," Xira wasn't sure if she should tell Amber the reason they actually want her. "For reasons I'd rather not answer."
(Is it cool if she can control water? Or should I change it?)
(Yeah, she can, no need to change it.)
“You look human enough,” Amber responded with a shrug. She thought that this girl was absolutely crazy, so she would humor her for now. “Well, you’re staying under my roof, so I would like to know why the evil people want you,” she said, an edge in her tone.
Xira sighed a stood up. "Where's the bathroom?" It would be easier to show her then to just tell her. Amber is only human after all, she wouldn't understand. "If you really want you know, then I'll show you." Xira was a bit frustrated with her, but she made a good point about her staying here. So, it was only right that she showed Amber.
“There’s one right across the hall,” Amber answered with pursed lips. “I don’t know how a bathroom is going to prove anything, anyways. Do you need help getting there?” She asked, mumbling the first part more to herself then to Xira.
"No I've got it." Xira swayed a bit as she stood trying to find her balance, as soon as she did she limped to the bathroom. Turning on the faucet, she took a deep breath before bending the water to her will. She shaped it into a whale and had it swim in the air around them. "Do you understand a little better now?" She glanced over at Amber.
Amber was fully expecting nothing to happen, but her eyes widened and jaw dropped when Xira actually did something. “What the fuck?!” she just about screamed, not sure if she was more freaked out or amazed.
(I'll be right back.)
(Alright)
Xira closed her hands into fists and opened them again, turning the water into mist. "Imagine if some high authority person had the power to control the four elements." She moved to the edge of the tub to sit. Amber's reaction amused Xira very much, she wasn't expecting it, but now Amber knew why she was on the run. "I can only do water, but my people have the power to do one. So, if they have me, all they would have to do is find the other three."
“And those-.. those people you were running from want to try and control all of that,” Amber asked, motioning to the lingering mist that was on the bathroom mirror. She couldn’t believe this was happening to her. All she wanted was a quick smoke, and now she had to deal with some magic girl.
"That's just a theory, but it's the most logical one." Xira took the last of the water in the air and on the mirror and put it in the sink so that it wouldn't leave a mess. "So I won't be staying here long. You would be in danger if I did." Xira looked down at her knee. It looked better, but was still not healed enough to run. "All I need from you is a place to stay for the night, then I'll be out of your hair in the morning."
Amber covered her face with her hands for a moment, her shimmering, long false nails standing out against her very pale skin. “Alright, okay,” she said after a moment. “You can stay. God, you are so lucky you are hot,” she said, muttering the last part more to herself.
Relief was all she felt in this moment, it was nice to know not everyone was bad. Xira leaned forward and smiled. "Thank you." She'll have to leave at some point but for now she'll stay. Plus her house was nice and felt comfortable. "I'll help around the house or something, to make up for me staying here." Xira would have to blend in a bit more. Maybe dying my white hair will help, I could possibly pass my marks as just tattoos. Her awful pale skin she couldn't do much about that.
“You’re joking, right? This place is pretty spotless, a maid comes about every other day to make sure it’s kept that way,” Amber explained. “Besides, your knee is completely fucked up. You just need to go and lay down,” she added, motioning to Xira’s knee with a long, pointed nail.
"It will heal in no time." Amber was right, this place was so clean that it was scary. Maybe she could get a job and pay rent or something, it just didn't feel right not helping somehow. She stood and hobbled her way back to the bed. It was soft and felt nice on her back. It was nice to sleep on a good bed. "Thank you again."
Amber had followed Xira back across the hall to the guest room. She had paused before leaving the bathroom, wiping off a bit of the mist that had formed on the mirror with her finger. This seemed so impossible. Once back in the bedroom, she lingered in the space in front of the doorway, her nails tapping on a wooden dresser. “Yeah, no problem. Hungry or anything like that?”
Xira shook her head. All she wanted was sleep, food could wait for in the morning. "I'm fine." She crawled further on the bed and got under the covers. It was nice and warm, unlike outside. "I think I just need some sleep." Closing her eyes she took a deep breath and fully relaxed.
“Okay. I’ll be in the last room down the hall and on the left,” Amber said. It wasn’t a bedroom, but a large living room. She planned on staying up for a bit of figure all of this out. She also made another mental note to check if the security alarm was set.
"Okay." Xira responded, slowly drifting to sleep. She dreamed of her family, her and her brother playing outside while their mom cooked dinner. Where did it go wrong? When was she taken and what happened to her family? The dream made her stir in her sleep, she just wanted it to stop.
(I thought I responded, but I guess not. Sorry about that.)
(It’s alright)
Amber went into the living room, switching on the TV. She was about to get comfortable on the couch, when the doorbell rang. She gave a soft curse, shaking her head to herself as she went to the front door. But she hesitated, wondering if it could be one of the men that Xira said was after her. So, she opened the door, just enough that she could see the man standing there. “Can I help you?”
“Are your parents home? If so, I’d like to talk to them,” the man said.
That just annoyed Amber, and not being good with adults, she snapped at him. “Bitch, I’m not thirteen, I live by myself. What do you want?”
“I’m looking for my… daughter. She’s about your height with white hair, pale skin.”
The sound of the door bell jerked Xira awake, and she was on high alert. She quietly snuck out and peered around the corner to see who it was. It wasn't a surprise that they would find her, she was just worried for Amber, if they did something to her she wouldn't hesitate to kill them. She listened in on the conversation.
“Your daughter? If she looks like that, then I don’t think you two are related,” Amber hummed.
“Listen to me, you disrespectful-“ the man started, obviously getting annoyed.
“No, you listen. It is late, I am tired, and your ass comes over here in the middle of the goddamn night asking me if Ive seen your daughter. Maybe she ran away because she couldn’t stand to look at your stupid fucking face. Now get the hell off of my porch before I break a nail beating the shit out of you,” Amber ranted before slamming the door. She smiled to herself, locking the door and switching on the alarm.
Xira was sitting in the hall laughing. That was to perfect, she definitely didn't want to get on Amber's bad side. "I knew they would come here at some point looking for me." She tried to catch her breath from laughing. "You really stood your ground. Thank you."
Amber walked over to where Xira was, laughing a bit as well. “Yeah, no problem. That happens more often than it should. That guy was such a little bitch, he just let a 120 pound girl curse him out,” she laughed. “But did I wake you up with my yelling?”
"No ot was the door bell. Actually I'm thankful that it did, I wasn't having the best dream." Xira was still a bit scared and didn't want to leave the hall. For all she knew he could be looking in through the window. "I've never met anyone like you before." She fiddled with her fingers to keep her distracted.
“Like me?” Amber asked, a brow arched in confusion. “What is that supposed to mean?” She asked further. She made her way over to Xira, leaning against the wall as she looked down at her. She checked her fake nails, making sure that she actually didn’t loose any of her nails.
