Marcos smiled, eating the shrimp with a smile. He raised his eyebrows at Justin’s facial expressions, “What?” He asked, but it came out slightly weird because he was still chewing. He held out another forkful for Justin anyways.
“What? Oh, nothing I was just thinking.” Justin took the food that was being held out. Justin quickly switched their plates. He then took some of Marcos' food and held it out for him to eat.
Marcos smiled and ate his food. Stars, he loved how Justin fed him. He held out some shrimp to Justin, secretly hoping that Justin accidentally bit his finger instead if the shrimp. Just so he could at least touch his lips…
Justin took the shrimp from Marcos and fed him some more food. “Tell me about your love life. We’ve been roommates for a year and all I know is that your gay. You’ve never once mentioned another person you like, and most people our age bring people home. Yhe only reason you told me you were gay was to make sure I wasn’t homophobic.”
Marcos wondered to himself if Justin had some kind of vague mind reading skills as he replied, “I’m single right now. Well, I’ve been single for the whole year, but…” Marcos trailed off for a second before flinging the question back at Justin, “You haven’t told me about many people either. So let’s do this, you tell me your crush I’ll tell you mine.” It was bold, too bold. But Marcos, despite thinking Justin was straight, just had to reconfirm it. Because so far Marcos hadn’t moved on for a whole year, fantasizing about him and Justin being something more. So if Justin said a girl’s name… Chase promised himself he would move on.
Justin wasn’t sure if this was how he wanted to come out, and to his roommate who he might have crush on. Should I tell him or should I not? “Well I’ve been single for the past couple of years actually.” That was true, he hasn’t dated anyone since he discovered he was gay, not wanting his parents to find out. “I’m not sure if I like this person though, let alone if they like me the same way. It’s sort of complicated. My parents have an idea of how they want me to marry and I have another, I just haven’t told them yet.” Justin offered another bite of food.
Marcos ate the food, but his eyes didn’t leave Justin’s, “What is that person like?” If Justin just used a ‘he’ or a ‘she’, 90% of Marcos’s love problems would be solved.
“Well for starters one major difference that my parents don’t like is that they’re a lower social class. But I don’t care about that I just enjoy spending time with them. I almost never feel awkward around them, I can just sit with them in silence or we can become close together physically and it doesn’t hold back our conversation, that’s what love is right? Well that and the warm feeling you get when you think of them.” As Justin spoke you could see the sparkle in his eye. “They’re funny, really dorky and a mojar softy.” Justin slowly wandered off thinking of Marcos.
Marcos inwardly groaned out of frustration. The person must be special if Justin wasn’t telling him. Marcos hid his frown and sighed, “Well I guess I have to tell you about my crush now.”
“I’m only assuming you do.” Justin smiled.
Marcos sighed anyways, anf only hoped he could hint at his crush on Justin, “Well, he’s really sweet and adorable. And he has an amazing laugh. I see him all the time, but he thinks we’re just friends. I got really close to kissing him once,” Today, “And I have no idea how to confess my feelings to him because I think he’s straight and I don’t want to make him uncomfortable and ask him out.”
“Well what makes you think he’s straight?” Justin offered some more food, only because he likes feeding him.
Marcos took the food happily before musing, “Well, I guess I’m not positive… But when I told him I was gay, I dunno, he didn’t say he was gay,” Marcos said unsurely, “I just felt like if he was gay, or bi, he would’ve said something too, you know?” Marcos offered more food to Justin.
Justin took the food. “When did you tell him? Because he might not have known then or still be in the closet.” Justin fed him again.
“Roughly around the time we moved in together,” Marcos felt like if he said ‘a year ago’ it would’ve been too obvious, “Yeah, I suppose your right. But how do I know for sure either way?” Marcos chewed on the food and switched their plates again, then fed Justin. They probably were looking like a couple, even if it wasn’t an actual date.
“You could always ask, I guess.” Justin fed some more food taking a sip of his drink.
“You try answering this out of no where: What’s your sexuality?” Marcos asked, feeling like he put a little to much emphasis on ‘your’, but still got the message across.
“You can’t just go out and ask someone you have to slowly bring it up.” Justin responded quickly giving out more food.
“How do I do that?” Marcos tilted his head to the side as he took the food from Justin’s hand.
“I don’t know you talk about your sexuality or something then ask them a question that requires talking about their sexuality, I guess.” The waitress came up asking if they would like any dessert.
“Can we get the Triple Chocolate Mousse please?” Marcos ordered with the full intent to share with Justin. The dinner was going by too fast. He looked at Justin when the lady was gone, “Alright. So maybe I could talk about how my parents we’re exactly ‘all for’ me liking guys, but they still accepted it, and then I ask them about if their parents accepted their sexuality… Speaking of, what do your parents think of your sexuality?” Gosh… I’m trying WAY too hard… Marcos was hardly being subltr anymore, but he listened intently for Justin’s answer.
*subtle I’ve just given up on spelling
“Well my parents are extremely homophobic so they would only talk to me if I was straight. I would be disowned if they thought I wasn’t straight.”
So that settled it. Justin wasn’t disowned yet, so he was probably straight. Unless he’s still in the closet… No. Marcos had to shut down those feelings, now. Hoping was just a waste, he doubted Justin was gay or bi or pan… I just don’t have a chance with him. When the waitress brought the dessert over, Marcos asked for a check too and she left them with the small cake. And two forks.
Justin took one fork and took a piece feeding it to Marcos. “You said if I tell you my crush you’ll tell me yours, right? How about if sometime this week we bring them to our apartment for a nice dinner?”
Marcos nearly choked on his cake. Bring them to dinner? How would Justin react when he brought over a sweet date and my only explanation was that my crush was already in the room? Unless he could find somebody and become friends with them in the next few days, there wasn’t a chance Marcos could fake it, “I- I- I think it would be awkward.”
“Nah, it’ll be fun. You could just ask them to dinner as a friend if that would be less awkward.” Justin wasn’t sure how he’d pull of not having a date but it was worth a try. “And if your worried about the person I like being a homophobic, don’t worry. I am one hundred and ten percent sure that they aren’t.”
“I… Okay,” Marcos didn’t know why on earth he agreed to it, but he did and it was too late now. He took a piece of the cake and gave it to Justin.
Justin took the cake not sure how that dinner would go down. He offered some more cake.
