Lucas looked up from the ground, his hair fluffy and disheveled. He quickly pulled himself to his feet and looked up at Bahari. "Um, I-I'm Lucas. Nice to meet you, Bahari." He tentatively accepted the necklace, examining it curiously.
Lucas looked up from the ground, his hair fluffy and disheveled. He quickly pulled himself to his feet and looked up at Bahari. "Um, I-I'm Lucas. Nice to meet you, Bahari." He tentatively accepted the necklace, examining it curiously.
Bahari smiled at Lucas. "Yes." She turned back to Harley, still glaring.
“Didn’t I say that?” Harley laughed and did a dramatic bow, “Harley, it’s nice to meet you all!”
William couldn’t stop fiddling with his necklace. It had something, William could just feel it. He sighed and looked up, “Is that all of us now?”
"I'm Lucas. I… already said that, didn't I?" Lucas looked away awkwardly. Stop being like this, you're going to be with these people for a while. You might as well know who they are.
Bahari rolled her eyes at Harley and gave him a necklace. "You hate it, but you must wear it to live." Then she turned back to Lucas and crouched to get at his level.
"I already said my name is Bahari. The necklace keeps you safe. You are a good child. You will be…happy here. I am sorry, I am from Polynesian side of island and English is bad." Bahari apologized to the young boy.
“What do you mean? This goes great with my look, why would I hate it?” Harley grinned. He put the necklace on.
"Yes, ma'am." Lucas nodded and put the necklace over his head, holding it in his palm as he looked at it. What am I even going to be able to do here? At least no one seems to mind me being here…
"I am not ma'am. I am Bahari." Bahari corrected Lucas with a warm smile. "You think you are pointless, yes?" She guessed, cocking her head and ignoring Harley.
Lucas looked up at Bahari. "W-Well, yeah… a little bit. I mean, I can't even raise the sails an inch. I'm not really strong enough for this life…"
"You don't have to be strong. Are you very clumsy?"
"Um… sort of, yeah?" Lucas fidgeted with the necklace.
“What do you mean? This goes great with my look, why would I hate it?” Harley grinned. He put the necklace on.
“Very feminine Harley!” Aleena called from the mast
“Hey! It’s masculine! It makes me look rich, too!” Harley called up to Aleena.
“I have one too!” She laughed
Bahari rolled her eyes in front of Lucas. "They will be crazy, I think."
“At least mine fits my outfit!” Harley teased, starting to climb up to Aleena.
"If you are careful, you can guard the important things. The things of mystics." Bahari opens her eyes wide.
"But how could I guard it if I can't fight?" Lucas let the necklace fall to his chest, turning his blue eyes up to Bahari.
“Mine is long enough to be hidden in my shirt.” She countered
"You are small. You are smart. You can hide, no?"
“It doesn’t mean it disappears!” Harley retorted, balancing himself on a pole, walking precariously.
"But if I'm supposed to be protecting something, I couldn't just hide! Then it would get taken."
William frowned and started climbing up to the two, “These necklaces are sacred, no joke. Do not act as though they are some knock off tourism jewelry,” Granted, William did sell some tourism jewelry himself, but these necklaces were special, “They bring the spirits’ protection upon you.”
"No one else could just hide. You are smarter than us all - even William who has the stars. I am confident you will guard them better than anyone else here. Let me show you the things."
Lucas didn't seem fully convinced, but tailed Bahari closely anyways. What is she showing me?
Bahari led him to her room. She set down the empty necklace box and shoved it under her bed. From her drawer she took out two other, smaller boxes: One contained a yellowish stone arrowhead, and the other, a rusty hose nozzle.
"These are the things. You do not know yet, but they will help us conquer the spirits."
"What are they? What do they do?" Lucas ran his thumb along the edge of the arrowhead, drawing away when it pricked him. Still sharp…
"They are what they look like. The arrow is from Disambi, ancient Polynesian ghost hunter. The hose nozzle is from America. It was nozzle of…Ghostbusters? I do not know for sure their name."
Lucas put his hand down, ignoring the bead of blood that had formed from being pricked. "Can they really catch ghosts?" He asked curiously.
