Avery knocked on the front door, and a tall blonde opened it.

"Avery!" she exclaimed, smiling and wrapping her in a hug. "What are you doing here?"

"Hi, Scarlet! I've got a favor I need to ask," Avery replied as her friend released her.

Scarlet's face lost its happy look, which was replaced by one of confusion and concern for her friend. "Of course. Anything. Just name it."

"I need you to watch Sam for me," Avery said, motioning to the boy behind her.

"Who…?"

"He's not mine, and you know it! My friend here is watching him, but I need him for something that I can't have a kid running around with," she explained, her eyes pleading. A look passed between the two girls, and Scarlet smiled again, seeming to understand the situation.

"Okay," Scarlet agreed. "I trust your judgment, so I'll watch him for you."

Avery released a breath that she hadn't known she had been holding. "Thank you so much," she breathed. "You don't know how much you're helping me."

Scarlet wrapped her in another hug. "Stay safe, and don't die. Please. The girls and I need you too much for you to die on us."

"I don't plan on dying anytime soon," Avery laughed, hugging her friend back. The girls released each other, and Avery and Vaughn walked back to the car.

Dylan smiled, "Yes we do. Dev here is the smartest kid I've known, and he was going off to Britain to talk to the eggheads there. But…." He faltered a bit.

Dev finished, "I'm apparently of demonic origin. Fire, I believe. I haven't learned how to control it quite yet. Dylan, though, has been showing me his powers for a while."

“If I might ask, why did you need me to help you? I’m surprised.” Vaughn said, getting into the passenger side. He hoped that her friend would take good care of Sam. He would have to visit the hospital at some point to see his mom and find out how long he should watch Sam.

"Element and Dylan are missing," Avery clipped. "Oscar, please take us to Element and Dylan's location."

"Sure thing, Avery," responded the car, driving away from the small house and back into the city.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

"No clue. Just that they're together, wherever they are," Avery answered.

The car soon pulled up behind a large truck, and Oscar followed it for a while, staying a few cars behind it. Tailing the truck took them out of the city, and Avery wondered why Oscar was following it. She asked him, and he answered, "This is the approximate location of Element and Dylan."

Avery shot Vaughn a worried look, then spoke to the car again. "Can you send one of them a message through their phone?"

"Yes, of course, Avery."

"Great. Then tell both of them to sit tight and wait. We'll be there soon," she dictated.

"Sent," the car said after a second.

"Thanks, Oscar."

@Desvelarse pets

“You really think they’ll have their phones on them? I’ve been kidnapped before, and if they are smart, they would have taken their phones. Hell, they could have gotten that message and now they know we are coming,” Vaughn explained. He took his pistol from his waist band and loaded it.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

"You think I don't know that?" Avery said, nearly shouting. "My friends are in danger. I'm just doing what I can to save them, okay? Why would you even be worried about it? It's not like you even care about any of us. You only care about yourself."

She turned to the window and looked out. Tears started to form in her eyes, and she tried to blink them away. If she hadn't fallen asleep, Element and Dylan would still be safe, sitting in the warehouse and researching the Flame. They wouldn't be captured by goodness-knows-who for goodness-knows-what-reason.

@Desvelarse pets

“You seriously think I don’t care?” Vaughn asked coldly, “You say I only care about myself. If I did, why the hell would I be taking care of Sam? Why would I be here, willing to help you get Dylan and Element back? If I didn’t care about anything but myself, I’d be back at the station drinking myself to death. So don’t you dare assume that about me when you don’t know a single thing about who I am.”

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan felt the truck move, then swing a turn. It sped up.

"Anyone have any idea where in hell we're going?" He asked. The daggers formed in voice again.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Avery ignored Vaughn and tapped a silent command to Oscar. A gray wall split the car in two, separating her from Vaughn. She let the tears roll down her face but held back her sob.

Why am I even crying? she thought to herself, but she didn't bother to stop the tears.

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn exhaled sharply and shook his head. He took out his phone and dialed a number. He smiled faintly when a girls voice yelled sharply, “Finny!” He forced a slight laugh, but it sounded choked. “Veda. I just need to talk right now, my condition is.. acting up at the moment.” He found it hard to breath, like something was pressing down on his lungs, and he got to urge to just jump out of the car and run.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Hearing what Vaughn said about a "condition," Avery's interest overcame her fear and anger. What could be wrong with him? How had she not noticed something was wrong?

Gosh, I'm an idiot, she thought angrily. Now I need to apologize, but I don't want to interrupt him.

An idea came into her head, and she smiled weakly to herself. She tapped another silent command to Oscar, and a blue, glowing keyboard appeared in front of her.

I'm sorry, she typed. I'm just very worried and it's messing with my head for some reason.

The message sent, and it appeared on the dashboard of the car in front of Vaughn.

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn rolled down the window, inhaling the fresh air sharply. He was listening as the girl was giving him breathing instructions to ty and loosen up the choking feeling. As the message appeared he read it slowly.

“I have to go, I’ll talk later. Take care.” He said, hanging up.

He hesitantly typed back, ‘It’s fine, I’m not my best at the moment either.’

He clicked send and waited, concentrating on breathing in the fresh air.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

A reply showed up in front of Avery, and she weakly smiled again. She tapped another command to Oscar, and this time the wall slowly came down.

"Are you okay?" Avery asked Vaughn. Her smile was gone, replaced by worry in her eyes and on her face.

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn glanced at her, still breathing sharply and heavily. “I’m fine, nothing to worry about.” His tone was lighter, as he found it hard to use his normal tone while deprived of oxygen.

@Desvelarse pets

“It’s.. psychological. Agoraphobia, to be exact. Not a common mental disease, I could honestly be worse,” Vaughn muttered, head now facing the window to breathe.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. And I just made it worse when I added the wall, didn't I? Oh gosh, I'm such an idiot," Avery muttered the last part under her breath, hoping he wouldn't hear. "Would it help if I opened the other windows?"

@Desvelarse pets

“Don’t be sorry, you had no idea. And that would be great, thank you. It’s very difficult to breath,” Vaughn said, his voice shuddering on the last sentence. He fingered the pendent around his neck, trying to calm his nerves.

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn exhaled sharply and leaned his head back, his expression looking exhausted and there was a tired look in his eyes. He decided not to explain himself further because of the noise, and he was greatful for it.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

Oscar discreetly followed the truck a long way out of the city. They ended up outside another old warehouse; although, this one didn't look like it would be half as nice inside as Avery's was. Avery told Oscar to go invisible, and they drove up right next to the truck.

@Desvelarse pets

Vaughn’s expression went emotionless as normal as he gripped his pistol. He peered out the window before whispering, “What’s the plan?”
