wHAT THE FLICK FLACK
I processed what Cornelia said. While knowing more about Meredith was helpful, I felt as if this conversation had run its course. I nodded my head at her. "Thank you. If you meet anyone particularly suspicious, let us know." I turned to Yuki. "Let's go."
We made our way out of the bar. I stuck my hands in my pockets, thinking about another potential area we could head to. "What now?"

moo
"Of course, where do you need to go?"
I opened my mouth to talk, but Roger replied for me. "Cornelia's Liquor. I swear we took a wrong turn, but Mary here won't admit it."
I glared up at Roger. "Oh you little-" I paused, recollecting myself. "Yes, directions would be nice."
The man squINCHED his eyes at me. "Just go straight and turn left at the huge intersection. You'll recognize it."
I smiled, thanking the man. I added, "Can you also tell us a bit about this place, and its government? My boyfriend got us both drowned recently, so we're a bit confused." My mouth was running on its own, and the label 'boyfriend' fell out too naturally. I brushed it off. hoping Roger thought I was keeping up some sort of lie.

"You know I wouldn't pass up an opportunity for free food from the castle."
So, he knows. Mr. Burdin must be trusted to Meredith. Interesting. I, too, love free food.
"Wonderful!" I exclaim. "We need all the information we can get." I move a piece of my hair behind my ear, then turn to Myst. "What time is it right now, Myst? When are we going back for dinner?"

@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage

"What now?" The question rang in my head as I scan the town square for any other possibilities, until I realized what time it might be, to which I turned to Wyatt and said, "How much time do we have until we have to meet back up?" He didn't realize how much time had actually passed in the bar, and wondered if that was his oblivion to the world or was today just a weird day in general for him.

"Can you also tell us a bit about this place, and its government? My boyfriend got us both drowned recently, so we're a bit confused."
I froze, but tried not to react. The man looked at Marina strangely, but complied nevertheless.
"Uh, well, it's run by the queen, her name is Meredith. She's a bit immature for a queen, but what do I know? She's probably older than me." The man gave a chuckle and nodded at us. "Well, we should get going. Good luck you two, hope you do well."

Feminazi
"What time is it right now, Myst? When are we going back for dinner?"
I turn my eyes to look at the clock on Mr. Burdin's wall. My eyes widen as I realize that it was almost 6.
"Oh sh-we should head there now if we want to make it in time." I turned to Mr. Burdin. "Will we get to walk with you or do you have to hold up the fort a bit longer?" Mr. Burdin gives us a disappointed nod.
"Henry's shift starts right at 6, so I'll see you in a few. Be safe out there!" I turn to Rai as we make our way toward the castle.

I looked from my watch to Yuki. "About ten minutes or so. Time to head back, I suppose." The man nodded his head and together we walked back to the the designated meeting spot. I took this time to check out my surroundings, noticing schools of fish occasionally swimming by, and coral reefs littered on every corner. Thousands of blue's and green's and peach's glittered the sea floor. It was rather strange how fast I had grown accustomed to the ocean.

I smiled at the man and his kid, thanking him. When they were out of earshot, I told Roger what I thought, wildly gesticulating. "He seems too nice to care about an immature queen. The man has a kid after all, I doubt he cares about Meredith enough to fight against her." I pursed my lips, then turned my head up to Roger. "What do you think, Ro? You're probably more observant than I am."

We arrive at the castle first. What interesting people there are here! I should visit those places when I'm off the job! I pout. I will have time off right?
Meredith stands in front of the gates, a soft smile appears on her face when she sees us. A glint of nervousness was revealed in her demeanor. I wonder what information the others have.

We walk in silence for a bit, I could tell Wyatt was taking this time to observe his surroundings. I suppose I could too, but I couldn't stand the silence, and had to make some sort of conversation.
"So, how long have you been here? Underwater?" I knew it was small talk, but I was growing desperate. Plus Wyatt could easily enjoy nature whilst answering simple questions such as the cliche ones.

markus but not really
I nod at Marina as she explains what she thinks. "I suppose you're right. Though I've met some messed up people with the most unsuspecting vibes." He watched the man and his kid walk through the park as he snaps out of his gaze.
"We should probably head back to the castle, right?"

merry christmyst
"I'm glad you two are back, you're the first to arrive." Meredith greets us at the door with a gentle smile. I nod and look around, suddenly smelling dinner.
"The others better hurry up, I'm getting hungry." I murmur, looking over to Rai.
"Hopefully they've grown closer as well. Rai, how are you feeling? Got any ideas from what we learned?"

@icecubes

i dont remember! ha! fucking-
Yuki grew restless, but I couldn't tell why. I opened my mouth to ask, but he began to talk. "So, how long have you been here? Underwater?"
Ah, the age old question. I shoved my hands in my pocket, thinking about my answer. "Long enough to lose track of it. Time didn't seem important anymore, so I stopped caring. Do you know?" I remembered seeing Yuki at least once at a bar, but I didn't think twice of him. I wondered what type of person he was.

"I suppose you're right. Though I've met some messed up people with the most unsuspecting vibes." Who was he talking about? Me? I silently chuckled at that idea, but a theory came to me. Maybe he meant himself?
He pulled me out of my thoughts with another comment. "We should probably head back to the castle, right?"
I frowned, feeling unsatisfied with our progress. We had only talked to one person, and the man didn't help much. "Okay," I said reluctantly, then added, "But, on our way back we should talk to one more stranger. The others can wait for us, and if we find out anything it'll be worth it."

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I shook my head. "Not a clue who it could be, but Myst and I will find out. Just give us time!" I said cheerfully. The faster we get this done, the faster I can go back to relaxing. Keep a positive attitude, Rai. I rubbed my stomach, realizing I was hungry as well. "Let's talk more when the others get here, and when we got food in our bellies. You'll eat with us, right, Meredith?"

"Long enough to lose track of it. Time didn't seem important anymore, so I stopped caring. Do you know?"
I shrug my shoulders.
"I guess I could say the same. Every now and then someone would say something that tells me how long it's been. Technology has advanced, the war has ended, but people still aren't people happy. Guess each generation has something to complain about, right?"

"Okay, but, on our way back we should talk to one more stranger. The others can wait for us, and if we find out anything it'll be worth it."
I nod and look over at a girl walking by.
"Excuse me," I begin, tapping her shoulder, "Is there any way for a citizen to speak to the queen? I have some concerns I'd like to address with her and I think she should hear it directly from me."
She shrugs. "I doubt it, but if you catch her on the streets you could try talking to her. Why, what concerns do you have?"

Meredith nods with a sympathetic face.
"Of course I will, I wouldn't just have you dine here and leave you alone, I want some of that delicious food as well." She said with a chuckle.

I tore my eyes off the scenery and looked up at Yuki. "War? Which one?" I inquired, wondering how old Yuki truly was. It had to have been a past war, since the one I died from had still been going on. I felt a tinge of pity, knowing how bad war could get. More and more questions popped into my mind as I thought about the possibilities.

"Taxes," I blurted out. When the girl gave us a suspicious look, I came to the conclusion that this place had no taxes. No, I think I knew that, but it somehow slipped my mind I was dead in another universe or something.
"Um, we don't ha-"
Suddenly, Roger saved us and pulled a 180. "That's what I told her, actually the matter is too difficult for her to understand. She also gets frustrated under pressure…" I was a bit hurt that he made me out to be stupid, but he quickly glances at me and mouths, "sorry" which made me forgive him. He turned back to the girl and added, "What year are you from, if I may ask?"

I continuously glanced out to the city, looking for the others. A good distance away, I saw two tall silhouettes. Those two must be Wyatt and Yuki. But where the hell are the other two? I'm so hungry. I can smell the food. Oh goodie.
"I hope they come fast. Do you know what's for dinner, Meredith?" I asked, stretching my arms.

"War? Which one?"
Wyatt's response made me wonder if he's been in a war, or just interested in world history. For a moment, I didn't want to answer. As if it would reveal something about me that Wyatt could use against me, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized it didn't matter.
"Oh, uh, World War Two? I was on a ship, my family was executed, but they took me and a bunch of other kids that were eligible to fight. I don't know if the ship ever made it, though." I stop myself from rambling, the memories of how I drowned rushed into my head and I placed a palm on my forehead.
"We're almost there, right?"

"Uh, I'm from two thousand six, why?"
I wave my hands as if brushing her off.
"Oh, yeah, you won't understand the matters, it'd take too much time to explain and I don't have that kind of time, ya know?" I shoot her a quick smirk and straighten up.
"Anyway, I should get going, thanks for your help, but my sister has an appointment." I put my hand on Marina's shoulder and head toward the castle.

"I hope they come fast. Do you know what's for dinner, Meredith?"
I quickly answer before Meredith can, knowing she won't let me make the joke if I gave her enough time to stop me.
"Seafood."
I could already feel Meredith's glaring eyes as I grin to myself with pride.
"I actually don't know, I asked the chefs to surprise me tonight."

My eyes widened. This kid was old. "World War Two? Shit, that was centuries ago. I died in a war that was still going on; the helicopter I was piloting got shot down in the water. Oh, and the castle is up ahead. You okay?" I noticed Yuki trying the change the conversation, and his hand to his head. I recognized the signs. War was a bitch.

As we walked off, and I turned to Roger, snickering. "Hello brother."
"What? You'll be adopted," he said playfully.
I punched him in the shoulder and picked up the pace. "Did you even get anything from that girl? I don't think we talked to her long enough to know."

I giggled at Myst's joke. Good to know she's got a sense of humor. I love her already. Meredith didn't seem to take it well. Interesting. I turned to Myst. "How did you get this job?

"World War Two? Shit, that was centuries ago." I furrow my brow. Centuries? Did I really lose track of time that heavily? Wyatt continued. "I died in a war that was still going on; the helicopter I was piloting got shot down in the water." Wyatt is a pilot? So, he fought in the war? I wonder if it was worse than what I went through.
"Oh, and the castle is up ahead. You okay?"
I look up at him, the realization that I'd been rubbing my head since he started talking. I nod, allowing the corner of my mouth to twitch upwards.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm-I'm good." We approach the castle and see Myst, Rai, and Meredith coming out to greet us.

I smirk at her question, raising an eyebrow.
"Remember what she said?
'I doubt it' but if you catch her on the streets you could try talking to her. Why, what concerns do you have?'
I've picked up that some people choose their words wisely. She merely shrugged when I asked about the queen. She said she doubts I'll even be able to speak with her, and if I catch her on the streets I could try talking to her."
I pause, proud of my observations, and giving Marina time to think about it, before I finished. "Then she asked what concerns I have. She wanted to know if there was another reason to be against the queen." I exhale after finishing, concluding my answer.
"Even if she isn't in the organization, she might be easily strayed under their influence."

I tilt my head at Rai's question.
"Meredith didn't have many people she trusted, but her and I sort of became besties, you know? For a while, Meredith was saying she wanted me to be her right hand man, but I refused to believe that I deserved that title. To make up for it, Meredith came to me for advice for pretty much everything before practically tricking me into accepting the job. Now I just do whatever."
Meredith smiles at me, sighing.
"Myst deserves to be queen if you ask me." I scoff and roll my eyes.
"Please, you're just saying that so that I'll behave tonight." Meredith smirks slyly before raising her eyebrows with an innocent smile.
"Oh, look, Wyatt and Yuki are here." She says, opening the door as I follow.

I eyed Yuki, skeptical of his answer. Seeing as we were at the castle, I decided to let it go for now. "Alright, man. I'm always listening." I murmured, slapping his back. We made our way up the steps of the castle. Rai greeted us first.
"Yuki, Wyatt! Glad your back! Now we wait for the other two, and then food!" I nodded my head, smiling at the others.
"They seem to be taking a long time. Hope they have good information LOL," The scent of good food was enticing.

I twirled my hair, watching Roger confidently spilling his take on the girl. As he suggested her possibly knowing the organization, I decided to memorize what she looked like for future reference. "I see what you mean. She's a short blonde with a silver necklace. It seems she always wears it, because I saw some green on her neck. Cheap jewelry." I sighed, cringing at her poor skin. "Hopefully we'll be able to identify her later. I do admit, she had a bit of a tone when talking about Meredith."
I pulled out my phone, checking the time, only to fine out we were ten minutes late. "Oh, we should run, Ro. They're all probably waiting for us!"

I smiled at their interaction. They seem rather close. It's a bit adorable, to be honest. I want a relationship like that. I spotted the boys walking up the steps and ran up to them. "Yuki, Wyatt! "We're still waiting for the other two?" I wonder aloud, starting to think Wyatt and I had more time to go to another place, maybe a bakery or some public place like that.
"How long have you been waiting? Could we have taken longer?"
Myst's eyes nearly pop out of her head as she laughs.
"For the love of God, do not take longer, I am starving."
I tilt my head and nod, realizing how late Roger and Marina must be.
"How much longer do you suppose they'll be?"
Mysts shrugs as Meredith sighs heavily.
"Not much longer, we hope."

Marina and I start running towards the castle, causing me to smirk.
"I'll race you." I mutter, picking up speed and passing her. Though I was sprinting, I'd get fatigued quick, but knowing we'll be resting for some time when we get there was reassuring. I look behind me to see how close she is from me.

"For the love of God, do not take longer, I am starving."
I sigh at Yuki, causing him to tilt his head.
"How much longer do you suppose they'll be?"
I shrug my shoulders as Meredith responds to Yuki's question.
"Not much longer, we hope."
My eyes spot two people running in the distance, and I immediately identify them as the two late kids.
"There they are!" I say, waving my hands.

The others conversed amongst themselves, until two kids appeared sweaty and out of breath. "There they are!" Myst exclaimed.
"Finally," I muttered impatiently. I was about ready to leave them.
Marina ushered us to begin dinner, so the party began walking to the dining hall.
After we arrived, Yuki and I took a seat near Meredith. I waited until Meredith spoke to start eating or discussing.

hoollllddddddd you like a hostage
Roger turns back and smirks, "I'll race you." I turn my jog into a sprint, but Roger manages to run past me. I struggle to surpass him, but I am always a couple steps behind him. Track and field paid off.
We shoot up the stairs of the castle and nearly run into the others. I lean my hands on my knees catching my breath. I looked at Roger who was breathing as hard as I. "God, I haven't ran that fast in ages. You're fast." I let out a laugh. "I'll beat you some day, Ro," I straighten my back, addressing the others. "We are so sorry, let's eat. I'm sure you're all starving."
At the gorgeous dining room, I sit across from Roger, next to Yuki. "Nice glasses," I chirp.

I'm so hungry and the food looks absolutely amazing. I am so ready to sit down and eat the entire table. Marina and Roger took way too long. Actually, everyone did.
Immediately I sat down at the large table littered with all types of the food. The scents are all mixed together, and I adore it. I was next to Myst, naturally, and the late party sat next to me. Specifically the dark-skinned kid, who was like, 30 feet taller than me.

"Nice glasses." I turn to the girl, Marina, who sat next to me, as she complimented my glasses, provoking me to reveal a gentle grin and nod my head in response, before returning my attention back to the focus at the table; the dinner and any other discussions about our next move.
"I think we should start with reporting on what we did today. Myst, how about you and Rai start?" Meredith spoke as people began serving the food.

yeET
Marina and I sat furthest from Meredith, being across from each other, as the food was set down in front of us.
"Myst, how about you and Rai start?"
Meredith probably started with Myst because she'd be able to give an example to everyone else on what sort of information to give, but I still spent my time coming up with what to say rather than listening to Myst.

"Well," I began as I looked over to Rai, wondering if she wanted to say anything.
"We started at Raz's house, but he wasn't home. Brent was there, though, but anyway, we went to the arcade next and that's where Raz was. He told us we could talk to his little gang of friends tonight because they'd be making some prank calls. I thought it'd be helpful to see if there's anyone in that organization that might be a bit more intensive than they seem."

I listen intently to Myst and Rai as they report their findings. Rai adds, "Mr. Burdin is also coming; I think he might have information." We turned to Roger to see what they had done, however Marina began to talk. sorry this is short

I was too distracted by all the delicious foods to pay attention. I figured that by the tone of their voices, it wasn't anything big. No surprise there. When there are a sudden silence, I realized it was our turn. I placed the fork down on the table. Roger opened his mouth to speak, but I beat him to it.
"We talked to a man and his kid. They seemed pretty content, the dad was probably too worried about taking care of his son than to care about a queen. And then, we met a girl," I nodded to Roger, indicating his turn to talk as I picked the fork up again.

Myst reported the whole Raz deal. When she forgot about Mr. Burdin, I jumped in. This is exciting. And the food is absolutely delicious.
"Mr. Burdin is also coming; I think he might have information."
Marina spoke next. What a lovely voice. She's pretty, too. And she can run. And she's tall. Roger must be lucky to work with a girl like that.

"Mr. Burdin is also coming; I think he might have information." Each new voice expressed the information they gathered throughout the day as I listen closely, noting of any important detail that may be able to aid in our investigation.
"We talked to a man and his kid. They seemed pretty content, the dad was probably too worried about taking care of his son than to care about a queen. And then, we met a girl," One of the girls, Marina, uttered, looking over to her partner to finish her sentence. The man, Roger, received the silent indication and inhale before speaking.
"Either she was in a bad mood, or she definitely had some sort of grudge against you. Her words gave the impression that you're not in touch with your people."

Marina looked at me as she waited for me to finish her statement.
"Either she was in a bad mood, or she definitely had some sort of grudge against you. Her words gave the impression that you're not in touch with your people."
Upon noticing Meredith's face soften, I felt bad for what I said.
"I'm sorry, I don't think that about you personally." She shakes her head and raises a reassuring hand.
"It's okay, at least we know one of the reasons."
I look down at the table, feeling a bit awkward for lowering the mood.

The sound of a door opening echoed through the room, and the dull energy in around us shifted. Immediately, I knew what had happened; Mr. Burdin just walked in.
"Sorry I'm late! Someone tried to order a black coffee with a burger and I just couldn't bring myself to give them such a disaster of a meal."
I rolled my eyes and shook my head as Mr. Burdin took his seat on the opposite end of the table.
"Now, what did I miss?"
I immediately speak up.
"Roger met a girl that may have some grievances against Meredith."
He shakes his head at the statement and takes a bite out of his food.
"Any complaint would be a silly one, do they expect you to be perfect?"

@icecubes

I glanced away from Roger to a man bursting through the door. I suspected he was the so-called Mr. Burdin. He had a cheerful outlook, laugh lines surrounding his eyes, graying hair, but friendly posture. His tone of voice showed his absolute dedication to the pleasure of his customers. The man sat down at the opposite end of Meredith.
"Any complaint would be a silly one, do they expect you to be perfect?"
I scratched my chin, speaking up. "The thing is, most people turn a blind eye to those they support in government. If someone has a negative opinion from the start, they're bound to know something or someone. Meredith isn't perfect, but if there is some negativity, that means she might not be doing everything to serve the people."

mmmmmmarrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy meeeeeeeeee
Mr. Burdin came in, and I began to listen to the conversation. If he is here, there must be something he needs to say, right? I finished with my plate and set the fork down, leaning in to the table.
Wyatt mentioned the basics of government. I turned to Meredith. "What kind of government are you running here? Monarchy?"

take abreak take me down take me down there
I waved at Mr. Burdin. The overly positive man is back! Hopefully with more than just an appetite for food. He began to discuss matters with everybody. Wyatt was rather brutal, but he brought up a good point. Perhaps Meredith is the problem? I looked back and forth between those who talked. The model girl began to interrogate Meredith.

@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage

"The thing is, most people turn a blind eye to those they support in government." Wyatt speaks up in response to Mr. Burdin's remark, leading me to remember what Wyatt uttered about his background, though his words were few and vague, I would not be surprised if he's educated in politics and government, as well as social influence. Wyatt continues, "If someone has a negative opinion from the start, they're bound to know something or someone. Meredith isn't perfect, but if there is some negativity, that means she might not be doing everything to serve the people."
Marina added to Wyatt's statement by inquiring about Meredith's methods of government.
"What kind of government are you running here? Monarchy?"
Meredith nodded, almost shamefully, at Marina as she started to explain herself.
"I understand there is no perfect government…"
Before she continued, I added my question.
"Do you think you are perfectible?"

new cyborg who dis
The question asked by Yuki seemed to catch Meredith, and she almost jumped at the idea.
"That would suggest that I think man is perfectible. I wouldn't want to make such claims, seeing that those against me believe that government is perfectible and thus, so is man." She thought about her words very carefully, and I could tell she was not prepared for such a discussion, despite this whole gathering was about government. Her last statement got me curious.
"What do you believe man is at his core nature?"

hey im grump
Meredith was not ready for such questions, and it showed in her body language. I knew that Mr. Burdin taught her well, but I didn't know everything he taught her. Mr. Burdin is a good man, so I trust that his influence could aid Meredith in leading a kingdom. I also believe that it was smart of Meredith to allow to be educated, instead of being ignorant. That was one of the things I love most about Meredith, is that she welcomes assistance and always agrees that she can improve, never claiming to be perfect and always willing to change for others.

@icecubes

weak? no u
Meredith was no where near fit to lead. She wasn't confident in her words at all, nor was she quick-witted, as a leader should be. I did not have much information, but I was beginning to see why people were against her. A political woman should know about politics and leading a nation. No matter what type of government she has arranged, she clearly cares about the people and should serve them. Roger shoots a philosophical question at her.
"What do you believe man is at his core nature?"
"Man is incapable of being perfect," she repeated.
I leaned into the table, interested at her short approach. I kept a calm voice throughout my words, trying not to seem like I was attacking the poor sulking queen. "Then why, if I may ask, are you attempting to create a perfect society of imperfect men? That simply makes no sense. Perhaps these league of rebels are truly trying to get their opinion of the policy out there. Are you listening to your people, Meredith? Are the people important to you, or just your opinion on policies?"

meeeeeeeee and

only me

Meredith stared at the table, shaking a little. This was clearly a sore topic for her. She tried to talk, her voice slightly strained. "I don't want a perfect society. I just, I just want people to be happy. I'm doing what I can, okay?" Wyatt straightened up, a small grin on his face.
"Meredith," he said softly, "I know. Listen, we all want what's best for you, that's why we're here. But, you have to let us help you in all aspects. Finding the traitors is one thing, and assisting you in leadership to avoid future conflict is another."

silly goose
Everything is getting so heated. Wyatt is way smarter than Meredith, clearly. Oh god, is she crying? This is intense. I nodded my head and shot the poor girl a wide smile. "We're your friends! We're here to assist you in any way possible. Gotta prevent future traitors, right?" I glanced around the room, hoping there was a consensus here. Helping Meredith should be worth my time.

@AloeVera groupMentallyImInACottage

yuhyuhyuhyuh

Tension slowly rose around the table as Wyatt pried into Meredith's governmental methods, causing her to feel more challenged than she expected. I turned to look at Mr. Burdin, who was watching Meredith intently, as if he's expecting her to pick herself up and defend herself with confidence. In all honesty, I actually agreed with Wyatt; Meredith shouldn't be leading any large body of citizens if she is this sensitive and naive. Someone like Myst, Cornelia, or even Mr. Burdin would all be much more fit for the throne. But I suppose that's why Meredith clings to them for advice.

The table discussion goes back and forth and I could feel the other people growing silent as they either don't know what to say or are scared to indulge.

I adjust my position in my seat as I eye Mr. Burdin, who is just as tense as I am. Meredith is struggling, and Mr. Burdin and I are using everything in us not to help her out. Meredith ended up specifically asking us not to help this time and that she wanted to try to stand up for herself because Cornelia said something to her about that being important. I mean, it's good advice, but I didn't realize how difficult it actually was in practice. Meredith smiled at Rai's reassurance, which caused her eyes to flicker to me and then Mr. Burdin. I suppose our eye contact was enough for her, because she straightened up and inhaled confidently.
"I understand," She began solemnly, "Which is why my biggest concern is the safety of my citizens. As soon as this organization comes up with a logical grievance against me, we can address it, but so far they have only spread empty hate and threats."
I looked over to Mr. Burdin to see if he'd be gleaming at Meredith in pride, but instead, he was eating his meal.

A smirk painted itself onto my face. "So, let's continue our plan."
The queen had a lot to work on. But, I admire her effort. I did notice the exchanged glances between her and Myst which led me to believe she still relied on support. Meredith was leading a monarchy, therefore she must be completely confident in her power. There is no one to rely on in this type of government.

Wyatt has been coming at Meredith, but I think she is doing just fine. Sure, she has some issues, but I can see the spirit in her, and her passion for the people. Plus, every city needs some strong girl power. If Meredith is struggling, I could always lend her a hand.
I propose a suggestion. "Let's do a partner swap. I want to get to know the others, too and try a different method of figuring out who's the traitor."

I am starting to get restless, because I really want to go back out into the field. Outside is where I belong, I love it so much. Being with people. I'm praying everyone will finish eating quickly and can come up with some schedule soon. I eye everyone at the table, noticing the rising tension that Wyatt and Marina attempted to kill. "Let's do a partner swap. I want to get to know the others, too and try a different method of figuring out who's the traitor."
Marina suggested as the sharp tension in the room slowly dulled, causing everyone to gradually relax.

Myst and Meredith exchange agreeing glances as Myst shrugs her shoulders. "Not too bad of an idea actually. Did you have a particular method in mind?"
"Didn't Myst have some plans with Raz's gang?" Rai pipes in, causing Myst to lighten up.
"That's right!" She began, as if she had completely forgotten, "Wyatt will go with me, Yuki and Marina can team up, and Rai and Roger can go together."
Everyone finishes up their food and Myst is already leaving with Wyatt as Mr. Burdin comes up to us.
"So, you two, what did you do on your first round? I apologize for my tardiness, but I did miss the beginning half of the report."

Before I knew it, Rai was standing next to me, Myst was heading out the door with Wyatt, I believe they were going to talk to a gang of some sort, and Yuki and Marina were idly listening to Mr. Burdin give them instructions.

We leave the building, and I was hoping Mr. Burdin and Meredith would know what to tell the other four what to do next, because I wasn't able to think of anything myself. As we walk to the park, I look over at Wyatt. His eyes were tired, but not in a physical way, and not in the way that Meredith's eyes were tired. It was a different tired.

I stood up with Yuki as Mr. Burdin made his way towards us. "So, you two, what did you do on your first round? I apologize for my tardiness, but I did miss the beginning half of the report," he asked.
"No worries! You didn't miss much," I reassured. Running my hands through my hair, I began to recite what happened, making an attempt to not miss out on any important details. When I finished, Yuki spoke of what he and Wyatt had done. From the looks of it, they didn't have much information.
"Are you planning on helping us, Mr. Burdin?" I questioned.

"Wyatt will go with me, Yuki and Marina can team up, and Rai and Roger can go together," Myst announces. She definitely had those partners in advance. Ironically I am paired with Roger.
I slide over to the kid. I realized I have never stood next to him before. It hurts my neck to try to look up at him. Why is everyone such a tower? "Hi! I sure hope you have a plan for what we're going to do next!" I smile, hoping Roger was friendly. Everyone here seemed to have a distinct personality thus far.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Myst was taking in my appearance. I didn't pay much attention to her, so I was curious as to who she was. I turned my head to meet her eye when she began talking. "So, what do you do here? I can't say I've seen your face around, but I can tell you've been here a while." Been here a while? Do I talk as if I had died long ago?
"I mostly just relax. Sometimes I explore the reefs and such, but sometimes I'm just at a bar. What makes you think I've been here long?"

"Are you planning on helping us, Mr. Burdin?" Marina inquired, followed by Mr. Burdin raising his eyebrows in a friendly smile before shrugging his shoulders causally.
"I've got some work to do at the diner, it's about to close and my employees can't leave until I've given them the approval of how well they've cleaned…or until midnight, whichever comes first." He lets out a chuckle as if it was forced and then places a hand on our shoulders.
"However, might I suggest that you two find your answers in more definitive places. Look in the library, the school, go and observe how interactive Meredith is with her citizens, ask questions about people's freedom or worldview. Who knows? You might find someone who's willing to jeopardize their secrecy for the sake of an attempt at recruiting you two."
Upon hearing the suggestion, I perk up and turn to look at Marina.
"That sounds like a solid plan, don't you think?"

"Hi! I sure hope you have a plan for what we're going to do next!"
Her bubbly nature caught me by surprise, but Rai bounced up to me and immediately announced her presence. I look away in thought as I ponder our next move.
"Are there any shady areas of town? Do you think we could check around there and see if there's anyone suspicious?"

"I mostly just relax. Sometimes I explore the reefs and such, but sometimes I'm just at a bar. What makes you think I've been here long?"
It suddenly occurred to me that my assumption could be wrong. In a quick moment of internal debate, I decide to clear myself up.
"Oh, I suppose I don't actually know what era you're from. I've met some people from hundreds of years in the future, and I guess some people in certain centuries have a specific look about them, but you could be someone new."
I pause and look down as we walk a little longer, but then I look back up at him and continue.
"I suppose I made my guess from your eyes. I can tell you've been through a lot, and that you've seen a lot. Following that logic you've probably been in the early twentieth century, because a lot of people from that time have that look in your eyes. Considering that's almost a thousand years ago, I assumed you'd been here a while, but then again," I paused, swallowing the lump in my throat, "we don't get updates from the living land until someone from that time dies in that lake, or ocean, or whatever it is now. It's not as common as you'd think."

I reapplied lipstick as Mr. Burdin gave us a suggestion. As he finished, Yuki looked towards me. "That sounds like a solid plan, don't you think?"
"Sounds cool, let's head to the library then!" I let Yuki lead, hoping he knew where the library was. I never thought to go there in my few weeks of being here.
I looked at my hair and wondered if I would need to redye it here. Yuki had interesting cyan-like hair, with streaks of deep blue. "Is your hair natural?" I asked, wondering if his hair was fluffy too. Why do I always get with the tall ones?

"Are there any shady areas of town? Do you think we could check around there and see if there's anyone suspicious?" he suggested.
I racked my brain for any possible locations. "I don't really know of any shady places, but- oh, there is that one grocery store. Every time I go in there I feel like someone's planning to kill me or something." That place better be shady enough for Roger. I don't know what he considers shady.

I watched Myst as she nervously explained herself. I didn't really pay attention to my appearance that often, but I figured Myst has met a lot of people to know these things.
"Well, you aren't wrong. I did go through some shit. I also have been here for much longer than I can remember, however I'm not from the twentieth century. Maybe twenty third, if I'm remembering right. Do you remember what time period you came from?" I took a deep breath as the image of the helicopter falling snuck into my mind.

I look over at her as we begin making our way towards the library. Marina herself had a pale pink color in her hair, and something about her stature gave me an unidentifiable energy.
"No, is yours natural when you're from?" I inquire, taking a closer inspection at the features of Marina's face as we walk and talk.

I shrug my shoulders and give Rai a half nod as I prepare to start walking.

"Do you remember what time period you came from?"
I blink my eyes as I try to do the math and remember what year I was from. It's been so long, but it's almost as if that timeline of my life never existed. Almost like being born again, that was only the beginning of my life; but it wasn't. That was my life. But more time has passed of my time here than anyone's life could ever amount to in their life.
"Somewhere in the fifteenth century, I suppose. It was pretty wild, and getting used to adapting to people hundreds of years ahead of me was strange, too. I've had to completely change my worldview several times, but I still hold the same general ideals."

I swirled my hair around my finger. "I wish. I was just wondering if there was a century with natural colorful hair. Oh, but I guess you're older than me. You know what, never mind. Why did you pick blue? With the streaks?" I noticed he was looking at me, but I kept my focus on the city. I realized I hadn't explored much since I drowned, which explained why I hadn't ever seen any of the people here.

I squinted my eyes at Roger's dull vibe. Is he always this way? Where's the fun? Where's the excitement?
I moved towards the east of the city, trying to walk at a reasonable pace for Roger. Tall people I swear to f- "So, what do you think of everything? Like, what are your thoughts about this group and what we're doing?" I asked, stretching my arms out in front of me.

I shook off the image as best as I could. My eyes widened at the words fifteenth century. "You're old, Myst. What are these ideals of yours that you speak of?" I often forgot that there were a diverse group of people that lived here. It was interesting to have so many different cultures and timelines all in one place.

"Why did you pick blue? With the streaks?"
As if feeling my hair would somehow cause me to see it so that I could examine my hair that I've seen countless times in mirrors, I run my hand through my hair as I look into the distance in order to structure the words to answer Marina's question.
"They were my family's colors, these shades of blue represented peace and neutrality, so it kind of became a common feature that my family took part in; dyeing their hair, wearing exclusively these shades, something like that. I suppose I wasn't any special case," I muttered with a bit of a forced chuckle as my eyes fall back onto her.
"Why did you pick pink?"

She stretches as she asks her question.
"So, what do you think of everything? Like, what are your thoughts about this group and what we're doing?"
I tilt my head in a half shrug as I respond.
"I understand Meredith is scared, so she tries new things. I can't say she hasn't tried everything she's familiar with, though. It would make sense. She seems like the kind of person with religious habits."
I turn my head to look in her direction as I watch her walking.
"What do you think?"

"You're old, Myst." Wyatt muttered, causing me to chuckle and respond with,
"I know, I look great for being several hundred years old."
"What are these ideals of yours that you speak of?" He added.
My eyes trail upwards as I think about it, causing my head to tilt to the left.
"Everyone should be treated with a specific tier of respect. Not just treated as human, but treated as a human mind with struggles and emotions. Idolization is a mistake, because if you idolize a human, that human will make a mistake and you'll either never forgive them or never admit that they're not perfect."I turn back to Wyatt.
"I understand Meredith is a perfectionist, and wants to rule this kingdom on her own, but she still manages to communicate with her people. She didn't used to do this, but she interacts with her people and even allows herself to trip in front of people. She wants them to see her as a human so that they'll be more understanding when she makes a mistake."
I slow down and lean my head closer to Wyatt.
"Did you know she doesn't even have a throne? She says it's because she's too busy to just be sitting around, but I think I know the real reason."
