“Yeah, sure,” Erikos said. He got up, gesturing for Daus to follow him as he began to walk down the hall. He had begun humming again, his fingers tapping against his thigh absently
Daus pushed himself up and followed behind Erikos, recognizing the same tune that the other seemed to hum. A small smile tugged the corners of his lips up without him knowing as he continued down the hall, fiddling with the silver bracelet around his wrist.
Erikos pushed open the door to his room. It was decently sized, with wide open windows and a ladder up to the roof pushed off to the side. He wandered to a large trunk next to the bed, opening it and stepping aside. “There’s a bunch of stuff in there you can try,” he said before sitting down on the creaky bed
Daus nodded and glanced around Erikos' room in awe before he advanced towards the wooden trunk. After a few moments, he managed to find a darker shirt that looked like it would fit him. He began to slip his damp sweater off, trying not jostle the new bandages too much as he began to pull the new shirt on.
Erikos felt his face heat up without his wanting it to, and he quickly turned his back while the other changed. He was lucky his dark skin hid his blush relatively well. He drummed his fingers on his thighs absently, waiting for Daus to finish changing
Daus decided to keep the jeans he was already wearing before he turned back towards Erikos, holding his sweater close to himself. "Thanks for helping me," he said, speaking up so he wasn't mumbling as a grateful look registered on his face.
“No problem, sir,” Erikos said. He went to say something more, but he was cut off by his father yelling about lunch being finished. Erikos grinned at that before turning to walk out of his room
Daus chuckled lightly at the way Erikos seemed to grin at the sound of food, following after him closely in the direction of the dining room. It smelled good, but he still had no idea what it might be.
Erikos practically bounded into the kitchen. His father was taking what appeared to be crab out of the large pot while Vien was manipulating what appeared to be a large, starry knife that floated in the air. He seemed to be pulling the crab apart and laying it on large sandwiches without even lifting a finger. Erikos slid into one of the seats at the table, eyes wide as he waited for the food to be finished
Daus slid into one of the seats next to Erikos, watching Vien move a knife around in the air. After a few moments, he averted his gaze and looked towards the food, his stomach growling as it reminded him of how little he had eaten in a long time. That probably explained why Erikos thought that he needed to eat more in the first place. Daus shifted a bit in his seat, tapping his fingers on the wooden surface out of habit as he glanced over towards Erikos once again.
Eventually Vien and Erikos’ father came over to the table, Vien floating several wooden trays carrying sandwiches and other food and drink. They floated to a stop on the table, where Erikos greedily began reaching for food. “Hey, guests get first dibs,” Erikos’ father said, slapping Erikos’ hand away from the food
"No, it's alright. Go ahead," Daus answered, nodding towards the food for Erikos to take some, a small smile tilting the corners of his lips up. The other's appetite surprised him, but it was kind of adorable in a way. Chastising himself for thinking that, Daus immediately pushed the thought out of his head.
“Don’t mind if I do,” Erikos hummed before reaching for one of the larger sandwiches. He took a bite out of it, smiling before reaching for a cup of milk.
“It’s alright, isn’t i-it?” Vien asked softly, reaching for one of the fish skeweres himself. Erikos nodded, giving him a thumbs up while his dad laughed
Daus grinned, a real smile actually making it to his face as he took one of the sandwiches carefully. His movements had always been quiet and calculated, even when he did a simple task like reaching for food. "This is really, really good," he mumbled as he glanced up towards Erikos dad, taking yet another bite of the sandwich.
“Glad you like it,” Erikos’ dad responded with a warm smile. As the others began to eat, Erikos finally decided he had to ask Daus something.
“So, what kind of infinite are you? God, demon, vampire?” he asked curiously
"God," Daus answered through a bite, setting his sandwich down after a few moments. "I'm one of the judges in the underworld for new souls," he explained, knowing that Erikos would probably want more specifics than the word god. Most people found his 'job' a little terrifying and odd, though he had gotten used to it after a couple centuries.
“Just? That’s like…super powerful!” Erikos exclaimed. He took finished off his sandwich before snatching one of the fish skeweres. Vien’s eyes went wide but he said nothing, keeping to himself out of worry he might say something wrong
"I don't have as many powers as the other gods, but hey, I can give you a free pass into the afterlife," Daus answered, a joking tone evident in his voice as he chuckled lightly at Erikos' excitement. He took another bite from his sandwich, glancing up as he hoped that he didn't worry anyone in the room.
“Well, I don’t think I’ll need one of those. I’m bound to the river, but ol’ Vien over here might need one,” Erikos joked while Vien rolled his eyes. Erikos laughed before reaching for a bowl of what seemed to be rice and lobster
"I'll keep that in mind," Daus chuckled, a small smile tilting the corners of his lips up as he glanced towards Vien before taking a few more bites from his sandwich. Everything tasted so good, but even one item from the table was almost enough to fill him up. Though, he did grab a small piece of another sandwich, which could probably be considered as his favorite food now.
Erikos continued to eat, nearly eating half the food all on his own. “What’s your favorite?” he asked Daus. “Mine’s the crab sandwiches. If papa wasn’t a fisherman I bet he could open his own restaurant.”
"They're my favorite too," Daus agreed, a small smile making it's way to his face as he glanced towards Erikos' father. "And, if you ever decide to open a restaurant, let me know because I'm coming," he added, taking another bite from his sandwich as a broad grin worked it's way across his lips.
“Well, that’s very nice of you,” Erikos’ Dad said with a laugh. Erikos nodded, and even Vien cracked a small smile. Eventually all the food had disappeared, and Erikos was left with a small pout
Daus glanced over and gave a small laugh at Erikos' pout, finding it a tad adorable. Chastising himself for thinking that way about someone he just met, Daus pushed the untouched half of his sandwich towards Erikos, knowing that he probably couldn't finish it himself.
“No, no, it’s okay, really. It’s your food,” Erikos insisted, pushing the sandwich back to Daus before downing the rest of his milk. Vien laughed faintly before standing, beginning to collect the empty platters and cups
Daus nodded after a few moments, resisting the urge to push it back towards Erikos before he took a few bites of the sandwich in order to finish it. "Thank you. The food was great," he said, attempting to speak up, though his words came out in his usual mumble.
“No problem,” Erikos’ father said, clapping Daus on the back before going into the kitchen to help Vien. Erikos grinned, rising to his feet.
“You’re going to stay the night, right?” he asked excitedly
"Yeah, I've got nowhere to go except for the woods. Unless you want me to sleep out there?" Daus joked, a small smile brightening his features a bit as he stood up, his smile broadening at how excited Erikos seemed to be.
“No, no, of course not! I can turn the lookout into a place for you to stay until you get your bearings,” Erikos assured him before getting to his feet
Daus nodded, deciding that he could probably leave in a day or so in order to find an entrance to the underworld. He hoped that this whole thing was just another sick prank that his siblings or the other gods had played on him, though this seemed a bit extreme. Had something else happened?
