The unicorn was silent for a moment, but whinnied softly after a second or two. He trotted off into the forest, motioning with his head for Dusty to follow.
Dusty blinked. "Okay. I guess I'm just going to follow this unicorn into the forest without knowing why…" she said as she hurried after him.
(I gtg for a few hours I think. Bbl ^^)
(Okay, well I'll try to be here when you get back!)
(I'm back)
Maddox trotted to a natural looking dwelling that appeared to be something between a den and a house. He entered it and transformed before coming back out as a human.
(Ah, sorry. I had to pick my sis up, and then I wasn't able to get back on.)
So… The unicorn goes in, and Maddox comes out…
"I'm going to go off on a limb here and guess that you're the unicorn," Dusty guessed, raising her eyebrows.
(Rip)
"You're… okay with that?" Maddox asked nervously, glancing around as though expecting someone to walk in on them.
Dusty shrugged. "I mean, it's not like it's the weirdest thing I've come across. In fact, I think it's pretty cool."
"Really?" What's the weirdest thing she's come across? "I mean, I've lived in this forest as long as I can remember. The animals are my family."
"Yeah," Dusty said, nodding. She bit her lips and looked around. Once she was sure no one else was near them, she asked, "You wanna see something cool?"
"Sure." Maddox seemed anxious to change back, but he remained human for the timebeing.
Dusty smiled and shook herself. Her hair started to turn to bright, golden feathers, and her eyes turned the same color. After a few moments, she was fully a phoenix, and she spread her wings out wide, showing off her fiery plumage.
Maddox's eyes lit up and he transformed into a unicorn, trotting around in a circle cheerfully. "Come on! I need to show you something!" Dusty could understand what he was saying now because they were both creatures. He set off at a canter through the trees.
Dusty shot after Maddox, though she didn't have to fly so hard once she was caught up. Phoenixes were naturally quite fast, so she actually had to slow down a bit to keep him in front of her.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"You'll see." They soon arrived at a little pool of water that appeared enchanted. There were other mythical creatures there, and all greeted Maddox warmly.
Oooh, pretty…
Dusty perched on a rock near the pool and looked around at everything. The whole space just seemed to buzz with magic.
"This is an amazing place!" she exclaimed.
Maddox smiled (or did the closest thing a horse can do to a charming smile lol) and drank from the pool. "This is the watering hole for magical creatures. Normal creatures can't get in because of the enchantments."
(Lol.)
"Oh, that makes sense. Any chance it's fire-proof?" Dusty asked jokingly. Her feathers smoked, letting off an intense heat.
"Of course. You're not the only phoenix here, you know." Maddox laughed and stretched, flicking his tail casually.
Dusty laughed. "Yeah, well, one can never be too sure! Once, I accidentally burned our house down… My dad rebuilt it from stone this time."
"Fair enough. I mostly have cold magic, hence my name. And you know, I've never lived in a house."
"Really? Has it only been that den-place, then?" Dusty asked, shaking her wings out. Maybe she would fly a bit as they talked…
Maddox nodded. "Built it myself, lived alone ever since." He conjured some snowflakes, watching them float gracefully down onto the surface of the water.
Dusty lifted off of the stone and hovered above it as she spoke. "Well, you did a very nice job for doing it yourself. What about your parents?" she asked, curious. "If you don't mind my asking, where are they?"
"No idea. Never really knew them." Maddox shrugged, swirling the water with a hoof. "Left me in the woods when I was born. A nice old unicorn came and took care of me until I could take care of myself, and then I built the place I live in. He's just over there, actually." He nodded his head in the direction of a very old looking male unicorn with a graying mane and chips in his horn. "Great guy, Koprin."
"Oh. Well, I'm sorry. I'm glad you had someone to look after you, though." Dusty turned her gaze to the older unicorn, and she tilted her head as she looked him over. "He seems like he did a good job."
"Don't worry yourself about it. Think about it this way: Since I never knew my parents, I don't miss them. I'm not sad. I've got Koprin if I ever need anything." Koprin lay down on the ground next to a thestral, eating an apple.
Dusty nodded slowly. "Okay. Yeah, I suppose that makes sense…" she trailed off, looking thoughtful. "Aren't you curious as to who they are, though?"
"My parents? Well, sometimes. I try not to think about it or let it bother me much. I can't change the past, so I avoid worrying about it as much as possible."
