honestly it def does
but some states, like Utah, are predominantly religious, and the religion doesn't support same-sex marriage. For example, the Mormon church is against same-sex marriage, because of the tenets of the religion, but the church is actively working to maintain other LGBTQ+ rights, like housing and jobs

Christians who don't love and accept people who are gay aren't actually being Christian
Christ loved everyone. He hung out with prostitutes and other societal rejects, and showed them love and compassion

Plus it's supposed to be SEPARATION of Church and State. Religion cannot interfere with politics and visa versa. And it's all "We can't do that, it's against God!!!!1!1!1!"
