She grabbed his hand, gently massaging it open. "No, tell me. You know how much I hate secrets."
She grabbed his hand, gently massaging it open. "No, tell me. You know how much I hate secrets."
Cooper looked back at Belle, his eyes showed how hurt he was but he took her hand gently. "I can't be with anyone else," That sounded selfish but it was far from it. He wanted to move on but the demon world had its rules. So did the demon.
"Why not?"
Cooper let out a shaky breath and took his hand out of hers as he turned around, "It's okay Belle, I want you to be happy. If Ryan makes you happy you shouldn't worry about me," This was the right thing to do… right?
"I-If you insist." It hurt her to do this. She squeezed him into a hug. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I left. This is my fault." Her words were choked by tears.
Cooper broke, his tears came soon after. He hugged her back like his life depended on it, "It's not your fault. I shouldn't have done what I did you and now I've lost you,"
"The first person I trusted after Jazzi died. I never thought I'd have to lose you too."
"I'm so sorry Belle. I never meant to hurt you and the last thing I wanted was to watch you leave me. I was alone," Cooper held her trying not to cry too hard but it was out of his control now.
"We were so happy. What I wouldn't do to have those days back. I was so lonely."
It felt like she was driving a dagger straight through his heart with every word. "I was just confused. I didn't realize how far in love I was until you left," Cooper swallowed, "I'm sorry I can't stop,"
Each word was another punch to the gut. "I was confused too. We were young. Unsure of what we wanted from a relationship."
Cooper wanted nothing more than an I love you or a kiss but he understood how things needed to be. She came over here to help him move on with no idea how much he wasn't allowed to. "I love you," Slipped out with his next breath… It was quiet and he hoped she didn't hear.
"I love you too." It was a reaction. Force of habit. They'd said these words a thousand times but never did she think she'd say them to him again.
His breathing hitched, unsure if he heard correctly or just imagined it like he had many times before. He was confused yet everything seemed clear to him, "Do you mean that?" Stop talking.
She winced. "No. I'm sorry, it was a force of habit." She only loved one person and was starting to become desperate to get back to him. She felt like the air was suffocating her.
He wanted her to mean it. Maybe not to be his girlfriend but just….. for someone to love him. Cooper released her from the hug as much as he wanted to hold her there forever he knew what it did to her. Their eyes met and it was clear how upset and broken he was. Tears fell from his cheeks, "Go," He whispered, "Be happy,"
She was about to but she paused. She knew she would regret this majorly but she reached up and kissed him. "And for the record, I do love you." She ran out the door before she could see his reaction.
Cooper's mouth gaped open, that was the last thing he expected. His knees felt too weak and his head swam with overwhelming emotions. He dropped to his knees and held his head as he cried out every tear he had held back and then some. He cried so hard his entire body shook until he had himself in a corner, his blue eyes had an ocean of tears that never ran out for her.
(Sorry, chores.)
She ran home, wiping her tears away. She slowed as she reached her front sidewalk, catching her breath and calming down before walking in. "Ryan? I'm home."
Ryan smiled at her voice, he sat at the rarely used dining table with two plates and a separate one holing waffles. He looked up at her and his smile faltered, "How did it go?"
She blew out a harsh breath, wiped her eye again, and ran her fingers through her hair. "Where do I start?"
"Is he okay? Are you okay?"
"I'm not sure if either of us is okay after that."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
She teared up again. "I'm not sure if I can." She whispered.
Ryan stood up and wrapped his arms around her, "That's okay," He whispered back.
She wrapped her arms around him and cried. All of their most precious memories were forcing their way up into her vision and each one only made her cry harder.
Ryan held her close, "I'm here if you need to talk okay?" he didn't expect a response. He did wonder what happened but that was between her and Cooper.
She nodded slightly, her emotions finally letting go and overflowing her with tears.
