âCooper is being nice but he looks upset,â Darren eyed his brother who was picking nervously at his hands.
âCooper is being nice but he looks upset,â Darren eyed his brother who was picking nervously at his hands.
"He's worried about you Dare. Like a normal brother would be," Lillian stated kindly.
Darren turned back to Lillian. âI donât want them to worry. Iâm fine,â
Lillian let out a sigh, "Family's always worried about each other. It's natural okay?"
âAre you doing better?â He looked at her wounds, âThat was a nasty accident, at least my car thinks so,â
Lillian looked at her arm. It was the only thing left in bandages, "I'm doing fine. It just hurt to use, or touch that's all."
âYeah it was bad. They never found my Cadillac converter, it actually got lost. As long as youâre doing better,â
(Darren still be extra salty about his car.)
Lillian laughed slightly before letting out a long sigh, "And they still don't know what happened. So I don't know what happened. So I still feel like it's my fault. So sorry? Again?"
âDonât feel guilty, Iâm sure it wasnât your fault and no one is mad at you,â
Lillian made a sideways smile, "I know one person's mad at me. And that's me."
Darren had more color in his face and his grumbling had turned into more coherent speak, âYou have no reason to be upset with yourself,â
Lillian wanted to explain herself, but didn't she just kept smiling as she sighed, "Okay. I'll try not to be."
Lies
Darren rested his head back on the couch, his hand still tremoring in Lillianâs. Coopers hand was still on Darrenâs leg. It was just them on the couch while the rest of the family conversed over dinner.
Lillian felt her stomach rumble. She asked Darren, "Are you ready to eat yet Darren?"
Darren couldnât remember the last time he had eaten an actual meal, he just had small snacks. âYou can eat, Iâm, uhhh, not hungry,â
Lillian frowned and sighed, "Do I have to do the thing where I don't eat unless you eat again?"
Darren shook his head, âItâs fine, Iâll eat later, you go ahead.,â
Lillian shrugged, "Okay. I'll eat later too."
Darren sighed, god she was persistent. âI thought you were hungry,â
Lillian shrugged, "Not really."
Her stomach growled in protest. Nope, no food until Darren gets food.
Darren frowned, âYour stomach said differently. You donât have to starve yourself for this,â
Lillian gently put her other hand on her stomach. She winced as she moved it, "Yeah well what are you doing? Starving yourself because of chemo."
He sat up a little which showed how baggy his shirt that used to fit tight was on him now. âIâm just now hungry right now, I eat,â barely but sometimes.
Lillian saw his shirt as she stood up still holding his hand, "Come on. Just eat something for me please? Remember last time and you actually didn't mind or vomit."
Darren gave her a sad look before shrugging.
Cooper noticed them stand and did the same. He had been waiting for Darren too.
Lillian smiled slightly and slowly walked to the table. She was slightly glad Cooper had had the same idea or purpose. Lillian's new goal was to get Darren to eat more than he already was.
Darren made a face as he smelled the food, it made him naseous just thinking about it.
Coop sat down and piled food onto a plate, the way Darren normally would.
Darren got a plate and put a small amount of food on it however Cooper put more on Darrenâs plate, âEat,â he insisted.
Lillian had piled some food on her plate and gave a grateful smile to Cooper. Darren had to deal with both her and him.
