He touched it, “Soft,” he stepped back toward her with more trust.

Lillian nodded, “Yes soft. Now stay still I need to put it on.”

He winced and groaned as she put the gauze on, trying to stay still.

Lillian worked quickly to get it on. She stepped back, “Finished.”

He looked down, “Does it heal?”

Lillian shook her head, “No. it stops the bleeding so the wound can heal faster. Also prevents blood from getting everywhere.”

His head felt light from blood loss, he sat down on the bed and looked at Lillian curiously.

Lillian looked back at him, "What?"

“You fascinate me,” he gave his best smile, though he was still scary.

Lillian gave a soft smiled back, "Oh really?"

He nodded, “yes. I don’t know how Darren does it,”

Lillian sat next to him. She asked, "Does what?"

“He’s good with you, yes?”

“He never seems nervous, somehow he’s braver than his demon,”

"Why is he nervous?"

“You make people nervous,” he laughed.

Lillian frowned and looked away, "I do?"

“It’s a good thing,” Balthazar didn’t know how to give compliments.

Lillian looked back at him, "Oh."

He put his head down on the pillow, “Sorry, I’m no good at being nice,”

Lillian laughed, "I see that now."
