Darren recognized the tune and smiled, he pretended to pay attention to class.
Darren recognized the tune and smiled, he pretended to pay attention to class.
Paige switched gears to "Chip on My Shoulder" as she pulled out her homework.
Darren locked eyes with Alek who was making faces to him as both of them held in childish laughter.
Paige blushed and stopped humming when one of the football guys laughed.
Either the teacher didn't notice or she ignored them but most of the jocks occupying the class were making each other laugh.
Paige quickly buried herself in intense notetaking.
Darren looked back, reading for fun and taking notes, she was all he wasn't as a student. He couldn't focus like that.
Paige could feel Darren watching her. She kept her eyes on her paper and tried not to blush.
He tried to see if she was actually taking notes on the class, he was pretty sure she was. "Are you taking notes right now?"
Paige looked up. Her wide, doe eyes were slightly confused. "Yes. Are y-" Her eyes flickered to his empty piece of notebook paper.
"I can't focus, although I admire your ability to." He looked at her, now almost full page.
"Well, what type of learner are you?" Paige asked, jotting some more points down.
"Am I supposed to know that," He laughed confusedly.
"Visual, Auditory, Tactile, or Kinesthetic," Paige listed.
"I don't freaking know? How do I know?"
"Do you have to see something to understand it? Hear something? Write something? Touch something?"
"I like music so hearing works then, music is the only thing I focus on."
"Then…" Paige finished writing a sentence and put down her pen, "you're an auditory learner. So I suggest, when you are in class, listen to the teacher. You'll pick up things better. And watch her mouth move. Don't ask me, it's just how auditory learners are."
"Her mouth?" He sighed, "Okay," he turned around and tried to focus on the teacher he kept getting distracted before resprting to staring at her mouth. Less distractions.
Paige smiled, admiring his profile. She heard a whee-wheeo! and quickly looked away. This earned a round of guy laughter.
Darren wasn't distracted by the whistling or the laughter, both things that would have ruin his attention 10 minutes ago.
Paige smiled. Darren was really focusing now.
Darren broke his focus to look at Paige, "Thank you," He mouthed.
"Maybe you can help me with musical lines," Paige joked. (Takes is seriously.)
He thought for a second, "You free after school?"
"Oh, um…" she checked the date. "Yeah, I guess."
"We can do it then," He nodded and winked before looking back to the teacher.
Paige was shocked. Was it that easy to get a date with the quarterback? No, this isn't a date. We're going to practice, she told herself
The bell rang and class ended. For some reason Darren found himself waiting for Paige.
Paige gathered all of her things and walked out the door. She bumped right into Darren's chest. "Oof! Sorry!"
