What's up with that?

When I was in 4th grade my teacher made us write a paper about something that happened to us in our lives and she told us you cannot write said and for us 9-year-olds it was the hardest thing to do

I mean, I've read a lot of books where he said or she said is apparently the author's favorite thing

The freaking 'I before E except after C' thing. (I know that's more grammar then writing, but that was really drilled into me when working a spelling and writing as a kid)

DUDE I wrote a whole post on the said thing awhile back! It's IDIOTIC, I AGREE. In fact, using said a majority of the time signifies stronger writing in my humble opinion. YOU CAN READ WHAT I HAD TO SAY ON IT HERE:

Writing rules I disagree with? LOL ALL OF THEM! But seriously, I hate prescriptivism so much: language is a spectrum and rules, like bones, were made to be broken. Language is a tricky thing to master, but once you do, that's the perfect time to start breaking ALL THE TOYS IN THE TOYBOX, SON! As long as it sounds good and your readers know what you're saying? Then it's all gravy my guy, aww yeah 😎
