Darren almost fell backward the first step he took on the stairs. He groaned angrily at the stairs.
Lillian caught Darren before he could fall. She said quietly, "Maybe you shouldn't go to your room."
He looked up the stairs, "It'll be fine. I won't fall."
Lillian nodded, "Okay, be careful alright?"
Darren tried the stairs again and tripped half way up, he caught himself on the railing and sat down on the step.
Lillian walked up and sat next to him, "You need some help?"
Darren looked at her helplessly, "I can do it," He said in under his breath.
Lillian nodded, "Got it. Just know I am here to help you."
Darren nodded and stood back up supporting himself on the railing and walking slowly back up the stairs. When he reached the top he was exhausted. He looked at Lillian, "I'm sorry,"
Lillian had followed him up she gave him a soft smile, "What are you sorry for?"
"You shouldn't have to take care of me." He said looking at his feet.
Lillian gave him a hug, "I want too. It's not something I have to do."
"I love you," he whispered.
Lillian smiled she whispered back, "I love you too."
Darren walked toward his room and sat on his bed, he looked at his reflection in the mirror that hung from his door as he slowly unwrapped the gauze from his head.
Lillian looked at him, "What are you doing?"
"Taking this off," He looked at her, "It hurts and I don't like it, I am therefore getting rid of it."
Lillian walked over to him ,"I'm not so sure this is a good idea. Maybe wait until the morning."
She yawned.
"But I need it off now," He looked in the mirror, "I need to see it,"
Lillian sighed and leaned her head on his chest, "You really shouldn't, can't you wait?"
Darren put his arms down, "I just wanna see it," He sighed.
Lillian yawned again, "I know. But I'm really tired."
Darren put his head on the pillow, "Can I see in the morning?" He asked with tired, puppy-like eyes.
Lillian nodded. She laid down and snuggled up next to him, "You can do whatever you want in the morning."
"I want toast," He said, his eyes already closed and breathing already slowing.
Lillian was asleep when he said that. She was exhausted.
Darren fell asleep too. He had a long day and was just happy he had someone there for him.
He got up early that morning, 4 am actually. He went to the bathroom and just stared at his reflection, mentally preparing himself for his gauze to come off.
Lillian was still sleeping. She had had a long night.
He took a deep breath and slowly removed the white bandaging from his head. He gasped at the red, sideways U stitched into his head around 2-3 inches above his left ear. He touched it carefully and winced at the contact. He went downstairs and made toast and eggs, mostly because he was bored, he wasn't even hungry.
