"Ehhh- Kinda? There was Dorcas, Goddess of Fabric and Sewing, and Rei, Deity of Clothing, among other things. I'm pretty sure fashion falls under Rei, and there might be a minor god working under her specific to fashion, but not that I know of." Irae mused. "Both could change the outfits, and some of the minor gods connected to or under them could too, though not as much."
"Not what I was expecting but makes sense. Sounds kinda interesting too." Clarissa hummed at the information. "Just how big is this pantheon of yours, anyway?" she asked as she glanced around for any eavesdroppers.
Irae shrugged.."The Pantheon, which includes most major gods, has about 25 gods, I think. Then the minor gods who work under them- we don't have a good count on them. Less than 100, I think. It's still really big in terms of Pantheons of myths go, but it's smaller than some of your species governments."
“Well, that’s still more than I would have thought. And let’s not get started on our governments. I already know they're a mess.” Clarissa sighed, shaking her head. “But what’s with the “species” comment? I get you’re not exactly human, but how different are you? Aside from the obvious?” she wondered with a brief gesture toward Irae’s hidden tail.
"We don't have biology. So completely. And not at all." She tried to explain. "When humans first discovered DNA testing and reading, a couple gods had the same question and went to see. We don't have sciencey genes. So most of us view gods as a completely different species from humans, though some don't like thinking of us as species at all."
Clarissa blinked at the information, once again not entirely surprised by it but still found it strange. “I feel like I'm asking questions with obvious answers. The way you describe these things is both… it makes sense and I feel I should know this stuff, while still being confusing and needing explanation.” she admitted. “Sorry if I'm annoying you with all my questions.”
Irae shook her head. "I don't mind much. Dosen't effect me to tell you." She looked around. "Where do we pay?"
Clarissa smiled a little and tilted her head slightly. “Registers are over this way.” she said, already starting to lead the way.
Irae followed, watching the other people around them. "Is there anything else you wanted to ask me right now?"
“Nothing that I can think of right now.” Clarissa shrugged, fairly sure that she would have more later but was kinda relieved that nothing odd was happening to bring up more questions at the moment.
Irae nodded. "I have a couple questions. First, were there ever other sapient species on this world? Second, do you have records of paladins and clerics from when the gods more freely gave power?" She spoke quietly, pausing whenever they were super close to anyone.
(guess I should have asked if you wanted to do this as a modern setting or something more D&D 😅 cause I actually have a D&D-based Tiefling character that I could have used)
(I'm good with either, I can come up with reasons for the confusion)
(I’m also good with either but if I switch characters then I almost feel like we kinda need to start over…)
(I'm fine with starting over, but I'm also fine with continuing. Whatever you want!)
(Honestly, based on your character and the information so far, I’m leaning towards starting over. I have my tiefling character’s sheet ready to post if you really don't mind.)
(I don't mind! I am going to bed now tho)
(Ok. I'll post the character sheet and we can start over in the morning. Have a good night.)
Name: Charlotte Amethyst ‘Bliss' Deering
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Race: Charlie is a red-skinned, short-horned Teifling (from D&D) with yellow cat-like eyes here’s one example, and another very similar to the above links, horns are a bit taller than the first but shorter than the second, very curvy, long curly black hair with a few braids often held back by a colorful hair bandana, including the outfit, without the instrument, with darker colors in the first link and her horns look more like the ones on the second. She's about 5’8” not including her horns, with long curly black hair with a few braids often held back by a dark brown hair bandana, and she also has a dark brown hooded cape/cloak that she wears when she is trying not to be noticed.
Personality: Charlotte is kind, flirty, a little mischievous, and bit bubbly at times, but she doesn't let people treat others badly, and can be serious when she needs to be though it's somewhat rare to see.
Attire: basically it's a traditional fantasy barmaid outfit; a white off-the-shoulder peasant blouse with elbow-length sleeves, a high leather belt/sash, a skirt that is just above the knee in the front but mid-calf in the back, knee-high boots, and a leather satchel
Other: Born to a well-off family but has a wild heart so she ran off and became a rogue/adventurer.
Hobbies/talents: riding horses, very agile, a decent fighter,
Weaknesses: can be secretive when talking about her past and will usually try to avoid the topic…
Gear/weapons: small collection of knives and daggers, a cutlass, but is proficient in archery as well.
Awesome! My character will stay the same
(as will the starter, except for the name lol)
Basilia, the ruler of the gods, Goddess of Monarchs, Leaders, and Acceptance, had decreed it. Irae was to be stripped of powers and placed with a mortal until she was deemed capable of doing all her duties again. Irae had fought, claiming she had not lost her way, the fighting was the fault of Ranjit, God of War and Violence. But Ranjit had not changed his doings for centuries, and the changes were cooralating with the changes in Irae 's behavior. So she was stripped of her powers, her immortality, and her form, locked away until she could prove she would work for Justice again.
She was escorted out by Feren, Goddess of Journeys, Travel, and Escorts. Feren would deliver her to the selected mortal and explain as much as was needed to the mortal. Irae was not bound, but her powers being stripped away had left her disoriented. Not weak, but confused, needing to recover. Combined with security measures, Irae would be unable to make it back to the Pantheon or any godly realm or property. She would be stuck with whatever mortal she was placed with, not knowing much about the world, as her influence did not often reach within domestic settings.
Feren and Irae arrived near the mortal, Charlotte Deering, and Feren pretty much just dumped the half conscious Irae and a note onto Charlotte's lap.
Charlotte Amethyst ‘Bliss' Deering had been raised with a lot of rules and expectations placed on her. But she never wanted any of them. She threw off the mantle her parents tried to mold her to fit into when she was old enough and never looked back.
One thing that hadn't been expected of her by anyone, not even herself, was joining a clergy, or becoming a paladin. So her knowledge of the deities was a bit lacking… but she knew enough to recognize Feren and Irae when the goddess of travel practically dumped the goddess of justice in her camp looking like she had just fought a dragon with nothing more than a note as an explanation.
The young tiefling sighed as she read the note for the third or fourth time. How could she be the best choice to help and look after the goddess of judgment? She didn't always make the smartest decisions most of the time. “This is either going to be an absolute disaster or the weirdest adventure I’ve ever had.” she murmured to herself before carefully approaching the beat-up-looking goddess and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. “Hey. Are you awake?”
Irae growled, her tail lifting to a defensive position, but it was bloody and bandaged, likely unable to do much. Her eyes cleared a bit, glancing at the tiefling. She didn't respond.
“I’m taking that as a “not quite “, ok.” Charlotte quipped, pulling her hand back. “But you are in bad shape.” she continued as she dug through her satchel for anything medical or healing that she had left. “On one hand, I’m glad that we aren't in a town or village right now, that’d just be chaotic and you don't look like the attention would do you much good.” she rambled just to let Irae know what she was doing and that she wasn't going to hurt her. “But at the same time… if we were in a town or village or something, we could get your wounds properly taken care of. Instead of just me doing my best.”
Irae's eyes darted around, her tail slightly lowering, nodding slightly to signal that she understood that the mortal wouldn't try to hurt her. She still didn't speak, her eyes darting around and seeming tired.
Charlie smiled a little at the nod, relieved that Irae was coherent enough to understand her. “Are you the strong silent type or still just dazed from whatever monster hit you?” she teased playfully as she pulled out some fresh bandages and salves. “I’m going to have to wrap up your tail. But I’ll do my best to be careful.”
Irae looked at her. "Neither. It wasn't a monster that did this." She whispered, gently unrapping the bloody bandages already on her tail and moving it closer to the tiefling. "If it had been a monster, they'd be dead I'd I wouldn't be here." She said, then coughed hard, her hand coming away slightly bloody. She glared at it, going quiet again.
“Oh?” Charlie arched a brow as she carefully started applying the salve to the wounds on Irae’s tail. “I don't doubt that you can hold your own in a fight… But it makes me wonder what could possibly leave you in such a state. You don't have to tell me if it's none of my business. Just curious. It's not every day a girl like me meets a deity.”
Irae stayed silent, not wanting to cause coughing again. She quietly watched Charlie work, allowing her eye to twitch when Charlie touches a particularly bad spot. Her gaze has softened. She didn't trust the mortal, trust came hard to her, but the tiefling had shown her kindness, and that gave her cause to be not hostile.
Charlie nodded at the silence, not pushing since it was clear Irae didn't want to talk about it. She tried to be gentle but gave an apologetic smile when she saw Irae's eye twitch. "So, this note says I'm supposed to help you and keep an eye on you even after you recover. I don't mind really, I just think I'm an odd choice. I mean, a teifling rouge watching over a goddess? It almost sounds like the start of a bad joke or something." she chuckled.
Irae briefly smiled tentatively in agreement, barely making any noise. "is there a medic that is known for discretion around here?" Showing the small dot of blood on her hand. "I think first aid might not cut it right now"
