Ophelia can certainly appreciate the grace with which Ambrose moves. While her husband is a wonderful dancer, it doesn’t seem to come as naturally to him. She shifts her attention to Kaillas and offers a small reassuring smile when she meets his gaze. She knows that he’s worried for her but she wants him to be able to enjoy his time with his sisters. It’s important that they’re able to spend time together.
“I am not keeping any secrets, Ambrose. I truly do not know the reason for this obsession. As I said, I may have a few ideas but they are just that, ideas.” She isn’t keeping any important information to herself. The fact that Ambrose doesn’t seem to believe that isn’t something that’s pleased with. She’s given him no reason to distrust her so this suspicion admittedly rubs her the wrong way. Especially since she had been under the impression that they were starting to get along.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spots Beatrice. After the horrible birth the poor woman had, she should not be back so soon. She’s concerned that this will put too much of a strain on her. Though she doubts she will be able to do anything about the situation, she’ll be sure to keep her eye on Beatrice throughout the evening to ensure that she’s alright.
“And yes, they willingly married me off to a king they didn't like. It was all for the sake of their alliances and power. You met my parents, you know what they’re like.” The alliance was necessary and to be honest, her parents don’t like anyone so it isn’t shocking that they shipped her off to the first king who would take her.
“I am taking no risks involving anyone’s safety and it would be wise for you to not accuse me of such again.” Perhaps her tone is sharper than need be and perhaps she truly is just reading into his words too much but after that conversation with her parents, she’s low on patience. She has no problem sitting down and discussing things with Kaillas and Ambrose but she will not allow the latter to speak to her in such a way.
