(Meanwhile Resh is like “damn I need to impale someone today don’t I :/“)
(deep inhale channel your inner entitled psychopath)
(😂)
The man removes the spear from under Resh’s chin, placing it back at his side. “I am Cyrus, Crown Prince of the Manta kingdom and leader of the military. Now who are you?” He makes a gesture with his free hand, and four or five men in similar uniforms to Cyrus’s appear from behind buildings. They all carry weapons. None of them make a threatening move yet.
(Uh oh 😃)
(If Resh starts a new war,)
(Actually I don’t know how to finish that sentence)
Resh lets out a low growl as the other men appear, but doesn’t take his eyes off of Cyrus. “Resh Corvus.” He grips the hilt of his sword, visibly tense.
Tsadi’s hand twitches slightly, as if he wants to take out his spear. Not a good idea. Wait to see if they’ll attack first.
(Look I don’t want to kill anyone but like,,,, homie come on)
Cyrus tilts his head at Resh and Tsadi. They're reaching for their weapons. I know. Just kill them! That’s the worst idea you could think of. Did he say his name was Resh? That’s not important, get them to go away. “Resh Corvus, I suggest you and your friends leave.”
Teth glares at Cyrus. “What the hell were we doing wrong-? What, do you expect us to go all the way around this place just so you don’t bother us? We’re just passing through, peacefully, and we have no fucking idea how to get from here to- Resh, give me the map-“ She points at the spot on the map that Resh told her they needed to get to. “to here, without cutting through. We’ll leave soon enough if you get out of our way.”
Resh looks down at Teth, startled. There’s no way we’re gonna make it out of here without a fight now. He’s insane- and probably insanely pissed now that Teth just said that. He grips his sword tighter. “…We should just get going-“
Cyrus looks down at Teth. “I’ve told you before, woman, this is a military operation. Civilians are not permitted to enter. Keep this up, and I’ll have my men bring you in for questioning.” They could be spies. Can’t trust them. Can’t trust anyone.
Resh lowers his voice, looking down at Teth. “Let’s just go. We can find another way around… besides, I can just tell this man’s insane, I don’t think we want to know what ‘questioning’ might mean for him.”
(no you do not)
Cyrus watches Resh and Teth whisper to each other. He glances at Tsadi, who hasn’t said anything yet. He was getting impatient waiting for them to make their decision.
Tsadi narrows his eyes at Cyrus. Resh looks at Cyrus again. “We’ll leave.” His voice remains steady, but it’s clear that he’s getting anxious. He gestures for Teth and Tsadi to follow, and the three of them start walking away.
(Congratulations! You have survived)
(Aw man they didn’t get in a fight /j)
(Pfft)
(Wouldn’t it be funny if they ran into him again later)
(,,,,,,,mayhaps)
Cyrus watches as they leave. He dismisses the soldiers back, and disappears himself. The only hint of people having been there are the prints in the snow.
As the trio walks back through the forest, there’s an unused path cutting through the forest that wasn’t visible on the way to the abandoned town. It’s much smaller than the main path they’re on now, but perhaps it leads somewhere else?
(Well since you brought attention to it yeet)
Resh looks over at the smaller path, then nudges Teth. “Maybe this leads somewhere different.” He gestures to the path, and Teth nods.
“Maybe. Should we check it out?”
Resh shrugs. “Well, it’s a safer option than going back there.”
Teth thinks for a moment. “Yeah, fair enough. I’m not in the mood to get skewered today.” They all start heading down the smaller path.
(Well they can’t exactly just walk all the way back out of the forest can they I need an excuse to narrate)
The path seems to lead towards one of the mountains. It’s covered more by the trees, so there’s less snow to walk through.
Resh bounces the tiniest bit when he notices they’re headed toward a mountain. He definitely looks less dead inside than normal. Teth just looks happy to be walking through less snow.
(Why did I saw “Aw” out loud Resh is a 60 year old man-)
The path inclines as it starts to head up the mountain. It’s icy going up, but nothing anyone can’t handle. There’s also quite a few switchbacks going up due to the steepness of the mountain.
(Look we ignore that ok just focus on the hapy)
Resh lowers his hood, looking around a bit. I forget how much I like mountains… He looks over at Tsadi. “Remember when I made you climb up one of the mountains back home with me and you nearly fell and broke your skull-“
Teth looks up at Resh. “…Weird thing to reminisce about, but okay.”
(Oh my god my dad once fell out of a tree and cracked his skull open)
The trail seems to go on forever. The trees have already become sparse, and the wind comes in bursts. The clouds above don’t look too promising either. It was getting late, and they’d have to find shelter soon.
(Oh dear)
Resh looks up at the sky. “That doesn’t look good. We should start looking for shelter.”
Teth shivers and glances at the sky. “But where-?”
Resh shakes his head. “I don’t know, but we’ll probably find somewhere before the weather gets too bad.” At least, I hope we do.
(Resh is my dad now /j)
Snow starts to fall from the storm clouds. The wind blows it in their faces, making it difficult to see.
(Damn why is he adopting everyone- also intrusive thoughts anyone)
Resh pulls his hood back over his head, shielding his eyes. “Well, fuck- this is just great.” What if we just froze to death here- shut up, we won’t freeze to death.
