"Cool." Arthur walks along a little, thinking. "So what interest does a demigod like you have just giving extra dimensional tours?"
"Cool." Arthur walks along a little, thinking. "So what interest does a demigod like you have just giving extra dimensional tours?"
"Eh. Life gets boring. Then I meet interesting people like you, who seem intrigued by the inner workings of other worlds." she chuckles, walking along with Arthur. "Besides, my world is so rich in history and culture that it seems unfair to hoard it all, you know?"
Arthur grins, cheered by the 'interesting' compliment. "Thanks! Personally, I'd probably just travel worlds by myself if I had that power. So how long of a walk will this be? hour? Days? Weeks!"
"I use my power to play pranks on people and learn new things." Rayla laughs.
"More than a week, is all I can say." she grins.
"Alright.." Arthur internally gets ready, and prepares mentally for a grueling hike. "Time to go on my first ever mountain hike. This'll be fun…. RIght?" He finishes warily.
"I mean. . . disregarding the possible avalanches, snowstorms, frost wyrms, wyverns, dire bears, dire wolves, shades, animated sets of haunted armor, wights, draugr and other various nasties? Yeah, this should be fun!" she replies. It was very hard to tell if she was joking or not.
Arthur decides to check his bag for anything useful. He had a rock, his dictionary, and way too many books;. He mutters to himself, "I knew I should've practiced sword play, but nooo, I just had to waste those 5 decades on crochet…. I guess I'll have to stick with the dictionary." He pulls out his enchanted Dictionary. "Ok, I'm ready!"
Rayla chuckles, and starts walking.
"Hey, quick question. Do you know if you have any magical capacity?" she asks after a bit.
Arthur shrugs a little. "I mean, I've learned a decent bit of magic. I can enchant some stuff, and I know some 1st level spells. So I am capable of learning magic, yeah. Kind of the only reason I'm alive, if i had no magical potential, the vampire bite would have turned me into a mindless Spawn, instead of a full sentient vampire. So yes, unless you're talking about something completely different."
Rayla grins. "Then this should be easy. Hold out your right hand, palm facing directly in front of you, arm straight."
She does it herself.
Arthur holds out his hand as directed, no hesitation.
Rayls chuckles. "For this next part, I want you to imagine your mana, or whatever you call it - basically what you use to cast speall - flowing to your hand and through it. Don't let it escape, just let it circulate there for a bit. If your hand starts glowing, don't worry, that's perfectly normal."
As she was talking, she was slowly demonstrating how with a transparent diagram of Arthur's mind and body, and how the magic should flow.
Her own hand was creating a nimbus of purple and orange light with jet black streaks running through it.
Arthur followed the instructions, focusing his magic through his arm. It feels a little warm, and almost immediately, his hand started glowing. A swirl of yellow and blue light shimmers from his arm, and it felt quite warm.
Rayla laughs delightedly. "Even with a demonstration, people usually fail the first few times. Good job."
She takes a deep breath, now continuing on with her demonstration. "Now this is the fun part, where you learn the easy way to cast broken spells. Simply imagine what the magic looks like, and let it come into existance by itself. Don't try to force it - that's how the Abyss in this world was created. Simply let the magic free."
She creates a single drop of water, at a point 50 meters in front of both her and Arthur, which then splits into multiple other droplets of water, with small little discs below them. The first drop of water lets a tiny bit fall, and then every single other droplet does the same. They start boucing around very rapidly from droplet to droplet, only a tiny shimmer indicating the presence of the many fast moving bits.
"What do you mean by 'broken spells'?"
"Things like what I just cast. Basically, divine or world level spells capable of killing pretty much everything up to and including a Wyvern." she chuckles.
(So are there any particular limits to that, or can I just do whatever pops into my head for this? Like, anything I can't do with the magic.)
(Not really- Rayla does have her own limitations, like she can't influence the direct fate of the world, only shape the earth and space itself to help heros win; she only uses her magic in the occassional skirmishes with upper level demons, and the rest of the time she's researching and creating new spells; I'm not sure what Arthur's whole deal is anyways, so it's up to you what his limits are ;-;)
(Cool. For context, Arthur's deal is that He's a Vampire, he likes books, and he has plenty of regrets.)
(Lol alrighty)
Arthur looks around, and finds a sizable rock. Suddenly hit with an idea, he grins and pulls out a pile of paper, and quickly points at them, and they all fold into each other, forming a life-sized sword, made out of origami paper. He swings it at a nearby rock cleaving it in two. He smiles happily, quite proud of this.
Rayla grins. "Bibliomancy, huh? Interesting choice. Very good sword, by the way. You just made the phrase 'words can hurt' quite literal."
"Bibliomancy. Don't think I've ever actually seen or heard of that before. I get the idea though, book related magic." He separates the sword back into pieces of paper, and puts it back into his pack. "I have an actual weapon now, so that's good! Shall we continue onwards? We've got plenty of walking left!" He grins and continues forward with a bit of pep in his step.
Rayla laughs. "That is good, yes. But we need to train you on the basics of swordplay, along the way of the journey."
"Yeah, we should continue. We need to find a suitable camping site later, too." she grins, following after Arthur
Arthur nods. "Yeah, sounds like a plan!" And walks forward, excited and ready to see what is to come. Less excited for the grueling pain of hiking an entire mountain over a weeks time, but you win some, you lose some.
cue travel montage?
Rayla grins.
Sure lol; making it epic, and I'm stopping when they hit my first landmark XD
Over the course of the next few weeks, Rayla and Arthur make their way to the base of the mountains.
They had looked at each other, then back up at the mountains, before shrugging and climbing them.
It took them nearly a month to get to the top, in which time Rayla had had to cast several spells on Arthur to keep his lungs. . . lung-like.
They now stoop atop a vast, snowy peak, staring down at the world below.
From the mountains directly across from them, they could see mist from multiple huge waterfalls obscuring the bottom portions of the mountain.
Looking up and to the left, there would be a stunning sight.
A giant skeleton, with an even bigger sword throughs its ribcage and piercing into the rock below. (this: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/969540626009031781/)
Arthur take sin the view, eyeing it curiously. "So how exactly id that big fella come to be?"
(Oh, I'll be gone for the rest of spring break, just FYI.)
(Alright!)
"How else? War and hatred. The Old Gods. . . well, they aren't as forgiving as the New Light. The Giants are the only race who remembers the Old Gods as anything more than myths and legends, besides the Dragons." Rayla sighs. "I was around to see this particular fellow in his last moments. He was a brave man, and a caring father. A shame he had to be a heretic. . ."
Arthur looked over the remains of the giant for a little longer, imagining it in life. He felt sorry. Someone with dreams and aspirations, so many things to live for, and his life was cut short. and for what reason? The gods simply got defensive, and killed someone who spoke against them. The Gods were as fickle here, as in any legend. Arthur folded his hands, hoped that the giant had a good afterlife. Well, probably a few centuries too late for that. He pulled out a fresh notebook and started to write down a few notes.
Rayla moves on.
"There's a few old, inactive volcanos in the area. Want to go check 'em out?" she asks cheerfully, trying to lighten the mood.
