"How wonderful," Jordie says sarcastically. She waves to Shade.

Cole follows the others and observes the world around the group. The grass they're walking on is blue, the sky dark green, and the river is- "Wait what?" Cole walks closer. "How is it running backwards?"

Phoenix stops and glances at the river, puzzled.
"How can you tell it's running backwards?" he asks, cocking his head.

"Usually, this would be the time that I'd say that rivers can't neccesarily run backwards, but that is definitely running backwards," Jordie notes.

In a moment of curiosity, Phoenix dips the tip of his boot into the water.

"It-" Cole pauses. How could he tell? Then it hits him. "Everything is reaching towards the spire except for the water." Now that he looks around, the trees, grass, and flowers all point in the spire's direction like sunflowers towards the sun. The river flows the opposite way.

"You're right," Jordie says, nodding.

In a moment of curiosity, Phoenix dips the tip of his boot into the water.

A face appears in the current and scowls. "What are you fleshy beings doing here by my river?"

With a startled yelp, Phoenix jumps back, staring at the creature in shock.
"Uh… Um… Sorry?" He stammers.

Jordie muffles a scream. (Likely about some celebrity and some sort of brunch item). She isn't great with jump scares.

"A nereid!" Cole gasps, drawing closer to the water. "Right? Or are you a naiad?"

Phoenix's brow furrows, "A naiad? Like a water spirit? I think we have some of those back home… Although I've never seen one."

The face rolls their eyes before rising. The group watch as the water takes a shape of an androgynous person. "Nereids live in the ocean, duh," The naiad huffs. "And nobody has answered my question."

Shade pulls his hood back over his head, casting a shadow over his face, but not at all hiding his horns. "We were just exploring, we weren't trying to hurt you/your river."

"We're, um… just trying to find our way out of here," Phoenix confesses, though he remains wary, "We didn't mean to disturb you. We can just be on our way now…"

The naiad eyes the group cautiously. "Are you going to heal the land as well?"

"We don't know how to do that. We don't even know what happened here, we are just trying to figure out how we get out of here. Well, thats my take at least." He glances at the others, as if to suggest they provide their own opinions.

Phoenix's eyes narrow curiously, "What exactly happened to the land?"

(Also I saw something about fighting- Rosjai and Wren can fight, they just don't like it)

Rosjai and Wren hang near the back of the group, watching carefully.

The naiad sighs and looks backwards, away from the tower. “An experiment gone wrong. They couldn’t control the living garden and abandoned the land once it rebelled. Everyone who was able to evacuated the cities and then…the candlemaker came.”
