“Oh. Sorry.” she giggled, setting the tray down. “Yes, it was very good. Especially the bread. Will you pass our compliments to your cook?”

"I absolutely will. Is your companion awake yet? Or is he still leaving you to do everything yourself?"

“He's get dressed now. Should be down soon.” she smiled. “But I do have one more errand to check on.”

"Oh? And what's that? Maybe I can help." Cyrus smiled passing out orders as he spoke. "I'll do anything to not be standing behind here for a few minutes."

“Oh, it's ok. I know where to go but I doubt that it's actually done yet. I just wanted to check on our laundry, see if it was done or not.” she admitted with a shrug. Though she had no objection to him walking with her if he needed a break from working the counter.

"Mind if I come with? I need to check on something myself. Plus, any time away from here would be an absolute blessing."

“I don't mind.” she admitted, smiling. He really did look like he could use a break. “Do you have someone to take over for you?”

"One second." He moved to the back and called for someone. Eventually, a woman moved to take his spot and Cyrus stood next to Charlotte. "Now I do."

“I see that.” Charlotte giggled and nodded. “Well, let's get going. I wouldn't want to take up too much of your time.” she smiled.

"Don't worry about it. Take up as much as you need. It means less work for me." He laughed, starting towards the laundry room.

“I can understand that.” she smiled at his laugh. “Sometimes it's nice to get away from the rush of customers.”

"See? You get it. I wish others understood as well as you do. Do you have an inn of your own?"

“I’m a caretaker of a cozy little inn in the other town.” she nodded, dismissing his minor lapse in memory as him just being too tired this morning.

He snapped his fingers. "Right. That. Forgot about that. It's too early, you can't blame me." He chuckled, blushing pink in embarrassment.

“It’s fine. I don't blame you. I’m just an early riser.” she assured him, giggling. “Most days, at least.” she added with a shrug.

"I don't think I ever will be. I've been working this job for years and the opening shift always kills me. I just suck at mornings."

Charlotte giggled again and nodded a little. “It's alright. I've always been this way. Even when I was a kid, I would get up early just to watch the sunrise.”

"You're stronger than me. I could never." Cyrus shook his head with a chuckle. "I don't know how people like you do it."

“I don’t know if I would go that far.” she giggled. “But it's nice of you to say that. And honestly, I don't know how I do it either.”

"Guess I'll never know." Cyrus shrugged as they reached the laundry room. "Right, I'll let you go first. Ladies first, after all."

“Such a gentleman.” she giggled before walking into the room.

The ladies in the laundry room were still hard at work, speaking in a different language but at least they were all speaking it together. Cyrus stepped in and called their attention, asking something quickly. They looked at each other and nodded, responding to his question and he smiled before turning to Charlotte. "It'll be done in a few minutes. You can stay and wait if you feel."

Charlotte gave a small, polite wave at some of the women but let Cyrus talk to them first. “Thank you. I might stay for a few minutes. I told Rodney I would meet him when he came down.” she explained.

"Oh? Is that your companion? I was wondering how long it would take before you gave him a name." Cyrus laughed.

Charlotte laughed with him, not realizing that she hadn't mentioned Rodney’s name before now. “Oh, I'm sorry. Yes, he's my friend.” she nodded.

"Well, I guess I'll put a face to a name in a minute. I'll stay here with you. Not like I've got anything really better to do."

“Other than run the inn, you mean.” she teased playfully. “But if you want to stay and meet him, I won't mind. You probably already saw him last night when we arrived.”

"Ah, not really. I wasn't on closing duty last night so I wouldn't know. And if you came in during the rush, then I definitely wasn't. Someone else works the counter during that time."

“Fair enough.” Charlotte nodded, not mentioning the fact that she would have been easy to miss when they came in anyway. “Now that I think about it, we might have come in with the rush crowd after all.”

Just before Cyrus could answer, the ladies of the laundry room turned with a freshly folded pile of laundry, handing it to Charlotte with a smile.
