(Wait, is Charlotte the small one or is Rodney?)
(umm… Either way. I have no problem with playing the small one… Or would you be opposed to Charlotte also having some magic? I’m sure I can make it work either way.)
(No no, she can have magic! The original idea was wizard and caretaker of a fairy inn, implying the small one was the caretaker so I was just a little thrown off)
(🤦♀️ I forgot about that detail! Then, yes. Charlotte can be the small one. Now I just have to decide if she's currently using her magic to appear “average human size” or if the description was “average size for a fairy)
(Ah, okay! Sorry about that 😅)
(no worries. I'm glad we were able to clear that up at least. Let’s just say that right now she's wearing a bracelet that makes her look human-sized and she uses it as an advantage for work.)
(Okay, I can work with that!)
“Thank you, sir.” Charlotte smiled back politely. “Though it's not really mine. I just work here.” she explained, fixing that same wild strand of hair again.
Charlotte was considered to be about average height with a more curvaceous build and warm brown eyes. She wasn't a vain person, though she did still like to look her best, but she knew that many customers considered her to be attractive.
Rodney flashed a warm smile. "Nonsense. You put the work in, you deserve to call it at least partially yours." He stepped further in, letting himself relax a little more. He could stop for a little bit, it may help get the guards off his trail for a while.
Charlotte felt herself blush at his words and let out another soft giggle. “Well… Perhaps a little. I do care about this place.” she admitted, casting a glance around the inn. “If you need anything while you're here, just let me know.”
"Of course. And you are…?" He gestured for her name, raising an eyebrow. This woman seemed nice enough, he was glad to see a friendly face after so long without one. It'd be nice to maybe actually have a meal without worrying about being stabbed in the back.
“Oh, my name is Charlotte.” she answered with a warm smile. “It's nice to meet you, sir.” she added politely, hoping he would tell her his name without having to ask for it.
"Ah, of course. Rodney James, m'lady. I hope to make your acquaintance." He bowed with a bit of dramatic flair, as was typical of him.
Charlotte giggled again, finding his theatrics quite cute. And he did seem to be a bit of a charmer as well. Not that she minded, in fact, she believed that Rodney’s visit would make work much more interesting today.
He straightened up with a smile. "Now, I do believe you offered food? I haven't had a proper meal in a while, let alone a home-cooked one. So what do you say? What's on the menu this fine evening?"
“Oh, of course. Anything for a weary traveler.” she smiled, welcoming him to come in. “Please. Make yourself comfortable. We have a wide variety of options. Do you have anything in particular that you would like?”
"Well, my mother had the most delicious meatloaf. I've been searching for years for something that mimicks it. Maybe you'll take the challenge?"
“I think I can whip up something like that.” Charlotte smirked, giving a little wink. “Anything to drink?
"Anything you think is best." He laughed, taking a seat at one of the tables with a sigh of relief.
“Coming right up.” she nodded before heading back towards the kitchen. It really wouldn't take too long to get the meal together as the inn already had many already prepared.
Rodney settled in his seat, tracing over the carvings in the worn tables and imagining a story for each one. His imagination was sometimes a little too active.
Charlotte hummed a little as she finished assembling the meal and headed back out to the main room. The food was steaming fresh and the delicious aroma wafted through the entire inn. No doubt it would start drawing in more customers.
His stomach growled at the scent of it, making him look up. "Oh, that already smells amazing. I've got a good feeling about this one."
Charlotte smiled brightly as she set the plate in front of him. “I certainly hope so. And I brought you some water and a nice glass of iced tea. Hope you like it.”
"Why thank you." He gestured to the chair across from him. "Care to join me? It's not like there's anyone else here and I'll get lonely all on my own out here." He flashed a warm smile, hoping she'd accept.
She gave a coy smirk and hummed as she looked around. “I suppose I could spare a few moments.” she agreed, taking the empty seat.
"Ah, how grateful of you to spare a moment of your busy day to spend it with a lowly peasant such as me." He flourished with a dramatic sigh before laughing.
Charlotte laughed with him and relaxed in the seat. “Oh, it's not that busy right now but… I enjoy sitting with many customers and hearing stories of their travels.” she admitted, leaning forward a little with her arms crossed on the table.
"Do you now? Well, when's the last time you went on your own adventure? I find the best stories are ones you make yourself."
Charlotte blushed a little and took a sudden interest in the pattern of the wood of the table. “I… I've never actually been on an adventure. I've lived here my whole life and haven't left.” she shrugged. “You probably saw that this is a small town and we get a lot of visitors but not a lot of people from here leave here.”
He gasped. "Never left? How is that even possible? I can barely spend a few days in a new city before having to find somewhere new. I can't imagine spending my entire life in one place!"
