Jez' eyes shot towards Evan, his breath stopping for a second "fine" he says, Evan having calmed him down.
He hesitates, but lowers the gun.
Jesse keeps the gun up, looking up at Jez "drop ze gun" she says. which Jez does so. He crouches down and sets in on the concrete floor.
"kick it over" she demands.
As if this were a game of Simon says, he does exactly what she tells him to do. Fearing for his new friends life.
Jesse leans over and picks up the gun, with great pain as she did. She felt as if she were about to pass out from blood loss, lack of water and the hit she took to the head earlier.
Holstering her own gun, she steps back from the boys.
"lead me to your camp." she demans once again.
Jez goes to protest, not wanting to lead either of them back to Gus or Jasper, caring for them too much.
"you try anything. i have a team of 20 back there. all armed and dangerous." he lies.
_
Cass nods "oh..okay yeah" he says calmly, looking around the area. He's had a wife before so he wasnt phased by this one bit. Ophelia on the other hand….
'Cassie what are feminine products?" Fia asks her dad.
His brows furrow and he pinches the bridge of his nose. "its..uh" he looks back up to the girls then back to his daughter "ill tell you when youre older. for now lets go ahead and head to the border of the city okay?" he says, to both the girls and Ophelia.
Evan stayed still, but his eyes reflected how much he trusted Jez. He had every faith in Jez that he would make it out of this situation alive, and if he didn't well he would see his family again.
That wasn't such a bad thing.
He sighed softly, "you won't make it far without proper help. You need rest."
He spoke softly, "I saw your head bleeding earlier, you might have a concussion."
There wasn't an inch of agressive or passive agressive tone in his voice.
Only genuine concern she might pass out and hit her head again, worse she may die.
He tilted his head at Jez, why was Jez lying? Did he seriously have 20 people in his group?
"Oh! Tuna! I need to check on my cat!" He said with a slight bit of panic.
(BRUH EVAN OMG he really was just like "eh its okay ill see my fam again" I CHOKED ON MY DRINK)
(i love him XD)
Jez glares hard at Jesse, as if he was challenging her to call his bluff. His heart beating 110mph, scared she would know he was lying.
Jesse on the other hand, didn't fully believe him. But she couldn't afford to not believe him.
"fine" she says, pissed off things weren't going her way.
her head whipped to Evan "a cat?" she asks, genuinely confused. "and you do not eat?" she asks, as if she was wondering why he wouldn't have already eaten his cat in this day and age.
hm. he must have plenty of food where he comes from he doesn't need to eat it…and wait why Tuna? is that a name? does he have Tuna? i like tuna she thought to herself, her mind wandering off to something definitely not important
Jez coughed "excuse me? you mean eat the cat?" he asks
She looks down at him "and the tuna" she asks
Evan looked so offended at the mention of eating his cat. He huffed slightly agitated as this was the second time someone had said something.
"The cats name is tuna, and I would never eat her. She's kept me sane after being alone for so long and loosing everyone I hold dear."
He got up from where he was and stood to stare down Jess.
"If you try and eat my cat we will have an issue."
He didn't seem like he was the least bit joking. He was serious, and his vibe was different from him being calm.
"Now.if you will excuse me I will be getting my cat."
He moved to leave.
(Thats my bad, I was on spring break and didn't tell yall)
(Oh he totally did XD)
Cassius gestured towards the city "its just up here if we follow the river" he looks back to the girls "were you guys following the stream to find the city as well?" he asks as him and Fia head up the river. Half of him thought it would be better to simply go back to their farm house to safety. Have a nice dinner and talk to them about where they came from and what there goal was in this world. Though he had no doubts there only goal was to survive.
They nodded, beginning to follow them along. “We’ve been following it for about two miles or so now,” Sef said, gesturing back behind them.
A breeze picked up, taking the girls’ hair with it. Lyn breathed in, finding the strength to keep going. Gradually, they had grown tired as they traveled, and they had planned to stop soon, but now perhaps it wouldn’t be too bad to keep going, when they were with others.
Elodie sat against a wall, the stitch between her ribs causing her to breathe slowly and harshly.
She closed her eyes, tilting her head back until it too, touched the wall.
Moths,
Fireflies,
Moonlight,
Clementine's laugh,
the dark filled with humid summer heat.
Everything was so hazy feeling, as if she were living in a memory.
Her fingers tips were tingling, lightly.
(so…where does my peoples be?)
(I'm here at last, sorry for the wait! Jacen, I think June and Darius are both with Gus and Jasper, who are in the hideout and talking to Elodie. I'm posting Gus's response now ^^)
Elodie followed quietly, keeping her head down, she sat down, cross legged and kept her eyes away from everyone, when she first met these people she had confidence they were trust her but the way the girl; Jasper reacted was making her feel like a misfit for sure. Though she couldn't really blame them, they were scared and she was a stranger, though she was nice she was still a stranger.
"I think so but i'm not sure, I was asleep when she left blood loss makes you very tired apparently." She said with a soft smile, her hands resting in her lap.
Gus nodded distractedly, concern for Jez making it hard to focus. "It sure do," he said, taking some bandages out of his backpack. "I'd say you lost a good bucket or two o' blood, judgin' by how you're lookin' right now." Realizing that she was starting to drift into unconsciousness, he quickly reached out and shook her shoulder a little. "Hey, try t' stay awake, okay? We'd better changes th' bandages on your leg, an' I got more questions for ya."
(um….how do I insert them lol?)
(idk honestly— just put them in?)
"hmmm" Elodie said quietly, her eyelids fluttering.
The memories seemed to fall further and further away.
"'Lo" she said and giggled lightly.
"Questions, yes questions!" She said, trying to sit up and wincing, sucking in a sharp breathe.
"What questions?" She asked Gus, looking up at him through her fluttering eyelids.
Darius and June are just sitting there then. (Bc idk its been a hot minute)
(That's fine! This'll be a little clunky until we get back into it, but we will lol.)
Gus gave Elodie a searching look. She seemed to be in pretty bad shape, all told. He wondered how much she had been through before stumbling into their camp.
"Don't worry about it too much," he said reluctantly. "I guess you should try t' rest. We have water 'n food if you need it, so just say th' word. I'll only pester you if you feel good enough."
Glancing at June, he lowered his voice. "I'm kinda worried about who else might be out there huntin' fer this girl. One of us should most likely stay on watch tonight."
June nodded, "I will then, watch Dare for me? I know he can manage on his own but you know he likes to play with sharp things." she rolled her eyes, "Ill be on the roof then, best place to get a view."
Gus gave her a quick salute. "Thank you kindly. I'll make sure Dare doesn't lose none of his fingers while you're gone. Jus' holler if you see trouble."
Turning to Darius, he nudged his friend lightly. "Hey pal, its you 'n me fer a bit. Do me a favor and grab that jug of water from the shelf behind me, will ya? I think miss Elodie could use some."
June nodded, grabbing her bow and quiver before heading up to the roof. If need be she had her knife.
Darius nodded and grabbed the jug of water, bringing it back to Gus. (did we give Elodie a name tag?)
(yes, pretty sure we did)
"Thankee." Gus sifted through his things until he found a dented tin cup and set it on the ground so he could fill it with water. "How're you doin', Dare? Need a refresher on anything that's goin' on?"
Dare nodded, "I am fine I think…I need a new pen though.." he muttered to himself. Back to his 'normal person' self rather than the oblivious child.
Gus overheard and nodded at the main room of the store. "A new pen? Uh, pretty sure I saw some packs of those in th' aisles somewhere. You can take my flashlight and go lookin' if y'want, but keep it quiet-like."
Darius shrugged, "I can look tomorrow." he paused and looked at Gus, "June is hiding something from me…isn't she?" he sounded clear, not spacey.
That got Gus's attention. He glanced up at Darius in surprise. It was true of course—he knew June was not being fully honest or transparent with her friend about a few things. But Gus wasn't sure how Darius had realized this.
"What makes you say that?" he asked cautiously.
He chuckled, "I may not have the best memory, but sometimes…like now, I can remember most things. I remember…before…you know, it might help if you knew where a pharmacy or something was, I ran out of the stuff that keeps me…here…a long time ago. .." he sighed, "I know its not your place to tell me…but she won't…she will distract me till my mind gets lost again."
Gus pursed his lips. "You're right," he said reluctantly. "It's not my place t' say anything. June made me promise not to. But I understand why y'want to know. I just….I don't think June means any harm by it. It's painful fer both of you t' have to go through that grief over 'n over. She must think you're better off without that." He took off his hat and rubbed his forehead tiredly. "I didn't know there was medicine that could help you. Maybe in the next coupla days we can go out lookin' fer some, if you think there's any chance of findin' it."
Darius nodded, "yeah I can understand that, and there is like drugs for everything you know, though the names are always a pain to say" he shrugged, sitting down.
"They sure are. Never could understand 'em myself." Gus scooted over to make room for Darius next to him. "D'you think the ones that helped you are still out there somewhere? Maybe we could find some so you don't have t' keep forgettin'."
"that is what I am hoping for…if not then oh well I guess… honestly I know I can be a burden sometimes…most of the time..but its…frustrating and scary for me too…it takes a lot for me to focus enough to clear my head" He sighed, pulling out a small notebook, one older than the others, "she doesn't know I have this…I hide it from myself so I don't accidentally find it…." he sighed, "Dev's dead isn't he? I remember him…I remember June and him going out and her coming back…the way she looked…" he sighed flipping through the book, "I used to like him…but he treated me like a brother… I wrote everything I ever knew about him here, she doesn't even know this book exists." he took out his pen and wrote on the first page 'dead'.
Gus watched with a heavy heart. "It ain't easy to lose somebody," he replied softly. "I can't imagine what it's like t' not even be able to hold on to their memory." After a moment, he added, "What if you told June that you remember Dev? What d'you think she'd say?"
He laughed a little, "She would look at me sadly, then distract me until I forgot…she does that…I mean I get it, she lost her only family, the only one she ever had…even before this…but…but he was kind of my family too…I don't think she should carry the burden alone..but…I know I can't"
"I'm sorry, Dare." Gus put an arm around him. "I….well, I dunno how much this helps, but, I'm willin' to be there fer June when she's sad, if she'll talk t' me. And same goes fer you acourse. If you can't lean on each other, then maybe you an lean on me instead. I don't mind."
(I fear I'll be gone for the next few hours, catch you later!)
