" Well, my makeshift rubble shelter won't fit the both of us so… where can we go?" more lightning struck far away. Bustop perked his ears and closed his eyes, waiting for the thunder to come. He loved loud noises, which is weird because he has extremely sensitive hearing. It's almost masochistic actually. The thunder came and it was louder than before, and left a satisfying loud ringing in his ears. He then looked to his side to check on Charlie.
Charlie shrugged, the thunder making him jump again. He was always very aware of his surroundings, to a fault.
"I think i saw an old cellar outside of one of those houses….that might be good….."
" Oh, yeah, that's cool" Bustop hated enclosed spaces. His voice reflected that. " We should probably head there quickly then." He looked at the storm again " It's coming pretty quick"
Charlie noticed, but luckily, he knew the cellar wasn’t fully closed in. He headed for the cellar. He didn’t realize how fast he actually was. Half of the cellar roof was missing, so he just stayed under the roofed area. He curled up a little, as he was getting a little chilly.
Bustop splayed his body on the floor where the roof was missing as it began to rain overhead, his ears still perked. "So, Charlie" he began to make smalltalk. He wanted to get to know the person he was travelling with " You got any friends?"
"Only one." He took off the heavy stack of bags and boxes strapped to his back, lifting a piece of cloth from one of the boxes and opening it up.
It was a small cage, and inside was a kitten with three eyes and two tails. He was asleep, curled up in a ball. Charlie pet it gently.
"This is Scott."
" Is that… a pet!" Bustop whisper yelled " I saw one on a torn billboard once!" He looked at it closely "Although it only had two eyes… and one tail" he paused "and it was a LOT bigger, like twice my size!" He held his hand out "Can I… touch it?"
Charlie stepped aside, nodding. "Let him sniff you first, he needs to get used to your scent. And…. just be gentle."
Bustop put his hand near the creature, fist, then paln forward "What kind of pet is it? I heard from a friend that there are a lot of types of pets. She told me I looked like a 'bunny' whatever that meant"
"He's a cat, i think. And… now that i think about it, you do kind of look like a bunny." Charlie smiled a little, scratching Scott's head.
"Is it the ears?" Bustop grabbed the edges of his ears " She said it was the ears" He pulled them down to his eyes, looking at them studiously "I've never seen anybody, or any THING with ears like this"
“Yep.” He nodded. “I’ve never been told I look like anything.”
He looked closely at Charlie's face, squinting his eyes "Well… you're still cute!" He exclaimed, giggling.
Charlie smiled a little. “…..thank you….”
Bustop watched Charlie smile and blushed. He was even cuter when he smiled. "Um… we should get to know each other! Y'know… while it rains?" He smiled "Kill some time!"
He nodded. “Yeah, I suppose so… what do you like to do?”
His eyes lit up "I like games! Like jumproping and kickball! I also like art! I paint on the sides of buildings and sometimes I make art pieces with debris or decrepit bodies and bones!" He exclaimed thwse things loudly and very quickly, face shifting with changing expressions as he spoke "Though some of my friends think body art is weird, I think it expresses a lot about the way I live!"
Charlie smiled a little. “I think that’s cool!”
Bustop smiled wider "I also like dancing! It's ny way of expressing myself through movement" he moved his hands up his torso to his face and stood up "Especially in the rain" he somersaulted and sat back down "Whadda you like?"
Charlie took a moment to think. He didn’t exactly have a lot of hobbies.
“I like leaving little drawings on things… like a little marker, that I was there….”
Bustop smirked softly and groaned "Ugghhh, everything you say just makes you cuter" he layed down again and looked over at Charlie, a confused expression on his face "How do you not have more friends??"
Charlie shrugged. “I dunno….I’m just….not very social, I guess…..” He blushed a little at Bustop’s remark.
Bustop smiled at Charlie, knowing he got flustered easily. He giggled " Well, it's a good thing I am I guess" the rain began to pour harder and Bustop closed his eyes, letting the rain fall on his face " Where are we headed after this?"
He shrugged. “Wherever business takes me, I guess…”
"Fun" he answered back "I generally just go where my heart leads too! Just… never out of the Vast" he chuckled "I can't wait." Thunder struck again and Bustop looked over at Charlie.
Charlie had flinched again. He curled up a little staying under the roofed side of the cellar.
"Hey you… you okay?" asked Bustop "I can come over there if you want?"
He nodded. “…..I-I’m fine…..just….not great with loud noises….”
Bustop crawled over, sopping wet, and sat a few inches away from Charlie "It's ok. It'll blow away soon. Just hold onto me if you're scared" He looked away blushing a little.
Charlie started clinging onto him, squeezing his eyes shut.
