It's the 1980s and you are a private detective who has been asked by Mina Harker to investigate the death and subsequent disappearance of her friend, a trans woman by the name of Lucky Westenra. Given the situation of the time, it's a wonder you acquiesce, despite the prejudice of the period that you likely yourself hold. But as events stack up, and many characters come into the scene with many different pieces of information all relevant to the whole scenario that you will have to piece together through hints and clues from various different places. But will you solve the mystery, or become part of it yourself once you know too much?

Anyways this is a retelling of Dracula set in the 1980s and also more gay. Because I can. Anyways I recommend you steer clear of this if sexual, violent, and otherwise dark themes bother you. Have fun.

I'll post a template when someone joins.

@EtherealDreamer

I SHALL JOIN THIS ITS SEEMS REALLY INTERESTING–

I read the first post but you might have to explain the plot in more detail to me bc never read/seen Dracula–

Makes sense! You don’t have to know the plot of Dracula to understand this but if something doesn’t make sense I’ll explain it to you!

@EtherealDreamer

yes, a few questions:

  • any prefered gender?
  • any prefered age range?
  • will you play more than one character, seeming as the people my OC gets their info from? assuming there are more than just one person that will give them info on Lucky's death and disappearance—

  • is there anything you would like to clarify before we start?

Deleted user

No preference for gender, age range is like,,, 21+ or something? Yes I will be playing all relevant characters except your own, and if you have any questions for clarification then let me know but otherwise I’m good!

I won't be filling out a template in order to keep details of the characters fairly vague since this will be reliant on the mystery of "what's the character's deal?" and if I just hand that to you I'm worried that it will ruin the effect of the story idk.

No, he’d just probably be very secretive about it given the standards of the time and also try not to associate himself with other trans people to avoid getting hurt.

Mina stepped through the door to the office of P.I. Marlborough. She was briefly reminded of the cigarette, but shook the feeling off. She hadn’t smoked in years, after all, and didn’t want to pick up the habit again.

Her husband was out of town at the moment. He was trying to cover their tracks, he worked with the government and after the both of them transitioned Joni had done his best to cover their tracks. But he’d gotten a threat recently, one that could possibly destroy their career and marriage. So he set off to find someone who could help, namely an odd man by the name of Vlad Dracula from a little place called Transylvania who knew just how to make people disappear. Mina regretted the decision but unfortunately you had to do what you could to survive in this world.

She had other matters on her mind, however. Her best friend, borderline sister, Lucky, had been murdered just last week. They’d had to rush the funeral, but after two days from that her grave had apparently been dug up, with Lucky nowhere to be found. Women like them often were killed for who they were, it was unavoidable. But this was strange. It was like a wild animal had attacked her, there was a chunk of flesh missing from her neck and her body was covered in scratches, dress completely ripped up.

She sighed. Mina would have to find some answer, if only it were simple enough to find it on her own. She’s been turned down by police, detectives, and many others, so this place was her last resort. “Detective? I have… a case.” she shouted shakily into the empty waiting room.

Your reply doesn’t have to be as long btw, I just wanted to establish setting lol.

Emmett looked up from his desk, putting down the pen he had been using to file paperwork he was slightly behind on, something about Emmett was the fact that he hated doing paperwork absolutely hated it. So he was kind of relieved and glad to have a solid and valid reason to put his paperwork on pause for the time being.

"come in and take a seat" he said loudly, so the person on the other side of the door could hear them.

He then pushed his paperwork aside, so it was on his desk, and still in sight so he wouldn't forget it was there later. He put the cap back on his pen then sat it down on top of the pile of paperwork.

Mina froze. That was a very, distinctly masculine voice, and she knew that she’d be clocked in an instant. Her voice was just too deep, her bones too dense, her chest too small, and overall she looked like a mess, having not even put on any makeup this morning as she had been too busy and forgotten. She felt like walking out, but Lucky needed avenging and she needed to be the one to do it. So she walked into the room. It was small, or at least cramped with file cabinets, and held in the center a desk where the presumed detective sat at. “Mina. Harker.” she swallowed-she looked like a man in a dress and she knew it, despite all evidence, hormones, and surgeries to the contrary.

“I haven’t found anyone who will help me. My friend, she… she was murdered, just shy of a week ago.” Mina explained. “If you’ll take my case I’ll pay everything I have. I just need to bring her killer to justice.” she said. She was desperate that much was true, but she wasn’t in a mood to mind. Tears filled her pale grey eyes as she swallowed again, this time even harder.

@EtherealDreamer

Emmett gave her a nod, indicating her to sit in the chair in front of his desk.

"I don't want everything you have Mrs. Harker, I will simply take your case not because of your price or bribery, but simply because I want to avenge your friend Lucky, and put her murderer to shame and in prison, where they belong." He said in a raspy male voice.

He smiled up at her, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. The smile he put up for people who came into his office, asking him to help them with their case.

He indulged in Mrs. Harkers' beauty before speaking.
"Now Mrs. Harker, may I suggest you sit down, and explain Lucky, starting with who she was, what her personality was like, the basic things I may need to know about her, and if you think anyone was preying on her at all." He paused and took a deep inhalation.

"I am taking your case, from the looks you seem to care about Lucky alot, or did. So if you would please, lets get started with what you know right away, and we shall go from there." He said gruffly, trying not to let his usually high voice through as he spoke.

He once again gave her that trademark smile, and waved him hand towards the chair again.
He noticed her grey eyes and felt his chest burn. He saw her on the verge of tears and felt this was once again a raw moment, when he saw the people bringing in their cases explaining the case at first, the tears, the way the person shows they truly did really care for the victim personally, and not just the cheap 'what a tragic thing to happen' bullshit the authorities put up.

"How… how did you know…" how did he know what she was here for? Oh. He must have seen the news. Lucky's brutalizing had been in every newspaper for the last week. A once honorable lawyer turned to the side of the transgenders, becoming a drug addict and eventually getting mugged and murdered. That was how the news had painted it at least, but Lucky had only ever touched cigarettes once on Mina's account, and she hadn't been "turned" to anything. Mina had been interviewed, by the police, and fortunately they had seen her as a woman at the time. She'd wanted her name to have been kept anonymous, but she supposed someone must have gotten the word out.

"Well. I suppose I can answer your questions." she sat down, looking down. "Uh, well. As for someone preying on her, well. You saw the news story, you know how it is for women like u-her. Like her." Like us? Was she trying to get outed? "Well. We were walking home on a Sunday night, she wanted to see me back to my apartment. She knows how hard it is for me with Joni-my husband-away, I tend to get in a sort of reckless state. And so, she saw me back. That was the last I saw of her. The next morning the police were at my door, telling me she had died."

"And I suppose you'll need to know what sort of person she was. Well, she was amazing, witty, loud though, you know how it is. She was always the funniest in the group, always the one who cheered the rest of us up. I gave her the name Lucky, she was obsessed with charms and pagan shit like that. I guess I just thought it fit, and she did too. We… I'm sorry, I can't keep talking about this…" Mina had fully burst into tears by now, sobs between words making her seem almost unintelligible.

@EtherealDreamer

Emmett smiled at when Mina had mentioned Lucky for the amazing woman she was.
He hands gripped the desk tightly, his knuckles turning white.

He remembered seeing the news story, and reading the paper, and people were attacking a dead woman simply because she was transgender, he frowned.

He had assumed that Lucky, among all the other transgender people who were assaulted, or murdered and what not, would simply be forgotten like the others, their cases swept under the rug by the police; because they simply did not care enough.

But this woman truly cared for Lucky, and he could see that through and through, he would take her case, not doubt about it and he would strive for the justice of Lucky, simply because it was despicable what the news center had put in the paper about her, the incorrect pronouns, the vulgar language against transgender people.

And the fact that they tried to justify what happened to her— claiming drugs were the main problem, bringing no attention to the innocence and life taken away from Lucky the night of her murder, none of this mattered to people, simply because they had read somewhere that she was addicted to drugs, and therefore most people thought she was murdered during a drug deal or whatever their mind could come up with to excuse Lucky's absence in the world.

When Mina burst into sobs, he stood up and came around to the side of the desk she was sitting on, he had a box of tissues in his hand, and offered them to her.

"Mrs. Harker, I know this must be hard for you, to see no one, not even the proper authorities trying to seek justice for Lucky because of who she was." He said heartily, he paused and inhaled, as if trying to keep himself from crying as well.

"The fact that she was transgender should not change people's thoughts on her murder, but it does; its something that happens repeatedly to people like u— that, people who are different from the typical American standard, and i'm sorry no one is looking into her murder until now." He said sincerely.

He sat on the arm on Mina's chair and looked anywhere but her, he did feel sympathy for her and what she had gone through, but he had almost outed himself— something that he had trained himself to avoid, yet he almost had and he tried not to think about it to much.
