The gargoyles held Adelia in the center of the courtyard, staying absolutely still. The undead split, some staying to guard, other to hunt down any other threats.
Veronica and Kathrina waited at the castle doors, keeping a safe distance from the blast zone.
“Veronica, where’s the kid, Reese?”Kathrina quietly asked.
Veronica looked around, confused.
“I don’t know.”
“If Reese is gone, something’s wrong. Be prepared,”Kathrina whispered.
They paused at the sight of Jovie, then Kathrina pointed a finger at her, a black and green bolt stinking of necromancy flying for her. Veronica replied with a scroll, sending another lightning forth, aimed for Jovie.
Jovie's eyes widened, and she flinched as she held her sword in the way, hoping for some miracle.
Adelia briefly summoned enough power to break one arm free of the gargoyle's grip and deflect the bolts away from Jovie, which caused her to black out. She came to a few seconds later.
Zelda didn't care how many people stood in front of her, as long as they were flesh her fire would tear through them both. She let the blue (really hot) fire out of her mouth, expecting to kill two birds with one stone.
She smiled grimly with her open mouth, happy to finally be rid of her elder sister.
(BTW, the fire won't kill them. The reason will be told in a response or two. It is impossible to tell that they aren't burning from an outer perspective.)
The undead rushed for Jovie, and the gargoyle snatched Adelia again, growling.
Veronica and Kathrina both shrieked angrily. Kathrina sent another necromantic bolt, and Veronica fumbled through her scrolls for a particular one. She only had two of these scrolls, and she considered it fitting now to use one.
Veronica paused at the fire, laughing triumphantly. Kathrina pushed her, motioning for her scrolls. Veronica grunted and returned to her searching, just in case, though she doubted she would need it.
(Ooh. Blue fire that doesn’t burn. Interesting)
(I don't know how I can respond to this yet without River clearing some things up first XD)
(No, the fire does burn. Jovie and Adelia are just being protected.)
(Lol. ‘Big gasp’. By who and why, I wonder, though I can probably guess)
(So, River can you go again before I go? I think I might know who is protecting them ;))
(It's pretty obvious who, I know.)
Inside the fire, a dark figure stood in front of Jovie, trying to cover as much of her as possible. Wings flared and katana out, they knew they were doing the right thing.
(But why? ‘Contemplating deeply on philosophies of the soul, and why’ ‘Big, goofy grin’)
(Here's that betrayal I mentioned earlier.)
(I see now. It all becomes clear. The sage has spoken true. ‘Still a goofy grin’)
Jovie felt a rush of heat wash over her, and she curled herself up to be as small as possible. But surprisingly, she didn't burn. She squinted her eyes open, and through the hot pain, she saw a dark outline.
The undead disintegrated almost immediately and the gargoyles were dispelled.
Kathrina and Veronica waited to see the remnants of their goodly sister and her foolish protector. Veronica held a scroll, while Kathrina impatiently waved her sword around, being careful to avoid hitting any allies with it.
Deep in the blue fire, Reese didn't even feel the heat. By extension, their katana didn't either. Over the years, they had been lied to and probably even used. It was too much to handle. In a way to protect their newfound friend and her possible lesbian crush, Reese took action. In a dramatic moment of choice, he took his katana and jabbed it into Zelda's chest.
(‘Big gasp’. That went a bit farther than I thought)
(How far did you think it was gonna go?)
(I didn’t think Reese would stab Zelda. It literally didn’t cross my mind until now. Lol)
(Really? I've had it planned since the start of the roleplay.)
Adelia dropped to the ground as the gargoyles were dispelled, and as the heat died down, Jovie rushed to her aid. "Your Majesty, are you alright?"
"Yes…" Adelia murmured. "The heat… what happened?" They both turned to see Reese's katana blade pierce Zelda's chest.
(Kind of obvious now. I’m sitting here wondering why I didn’t think of it before. But, I’m also a sucker for surprises like this, so it actually worked out. ‘Big grin’)
Kathrina and Veronica screamed in horror at the sight. Kathrina pointed her fingers at Reese, sending forth multiple bolts of dispelling magic, spitting curses at the kid.
Veronica fell to her knees, crying hopelessly. All their work, gone in an instant. They had no leader, no dark guide! What were they to do?
Adelia reached out and deflected the curses away from Reese. Jovie stood up and attempted to deflect what she could with her sword.
