(Oh my god I love both your character @Relsey and @knightinadream they are so well thought out! I think I'm going to add one more spot in case someone wants to write romance)
Name: Cato Oliver (As time went on, he forgot his own last name and chose the name Oliver when people came onto Ogygia)
Nicknames: Was called The First by the others as they arrived because he refused to tell them his name in the beginning. Other than that, he has none but doesn't mind being called Oli
Age: 25
Gender/pronouns: male, he/him
Sexuality: questioning but most likely bi
Personality: Cato was a Greek Warrior and farmer before that. He makes very calculated decisions and doesn't like surprises. Cato is very friendly, likes talking to people and hearing their stories, but back home didnt have anyone he called a friend. He is very helpful and enjoys hosting parties. When a raid on his village destroyed their food and killed his wife, he "enlisted" and sought revenge on his wife's killers. He did become less friendly but still tries to be nice and caring, especially towards kids. Cato can be ruthless when needed and caring when needed, he is able to change his personality a little based on the person in front of him
Appearance: Cato is from a place that has a lot of sun, then he got trapped on a place with a lot of sun, his skin is very tan, a deep olive tone with cooler undertones. He has light brown, almost blonde hair that reaches the nape of his neck and is loosely curly. His eyes are a light green colour with long eyelashes and thick, arched eyebrows. He has a long and pointed nose, full lips, and white teeth with slightly elongated canines. Because Cato was a warrior, he has a muscular body with defined muscles on his arms, legs, and abdomen. He is lean but has an slightly athletic build. His hands are a bit calloused and dirty from the years of sword fighting, and he has a few scars adorning his body. (Kind like this)
Role: The First
How they found the bottle: Cato got trapped on the island after his ship capsized and he drifted onto it, unconscious. He woke up and tried to leave the island but the first time he tried to make a raft and sail out, it broke apart and he drowned. When he woke up on the island again, he tried to leave 4 more time, dying each time. He thought he had arrived on the Island of Ogygia and that he had taken Calypso's place. Years passed and he became a bit…crazy, humming Greek songs and telling himself stories but one day he found a glass bottle on the beach. Unsure of where it came from, he made a crude piece of paper from the bark of the trees and used a piece of charcoal to write his story, nit knowing that he was cursing anyone who found the bottle. He went to the highest cliff and used vines and soft tree bark to make a sort of sling to launch it far away from the island.
Any background info: Cato got married to his wife Aurelia when he was 19. They travelled from their big city home to a smaller village and started a farm. Their farm grew to be very successful and they would sell their grains and flowers. With the war going on, their village was still fairly untouched until one night when soldiers from the enemy side attacked their village, killed many people, and took many women. Tha handful that were left decided to go to the bigger cities and find shelter there. The men decided to fight the enemy in the army. Cato joined to be an army man so he could still see his son and daughter from a distance but unfortunately he was sent to be a part if the navy. Cato has no idea what happened to his children and hoped to get back to them. On one mission to attack the enemy at night, their captain made a wrong decision and they headed straight for a storm. Their ship capsized and Cato managed to grab ahold of a bag and some part of the ship. He drifted out to sea, unconscious, until he woke up on a beach.
Outfits: when he washed up on the beach of Ogygia, he was wearing this(second character) but over the years he, very crudely, used his cloak and the clothes he was wearing to create a more flexible outfit. He didn't have any bottoms because there was no more fabric, but he had enough to make 3 long tunics that stop at his knees. He has on his shoes and gave his helmet to the Smith, choosing to keep his shinguards to protect his legs when he went exploring on the island.
Hobbies/talents: because he was a warrior, he is skilled in combat, both close combat and combat with weapons. Cato is great ar climbing trees, any one he sees, he can climb. Years on the island taught him how to cook and tie strong knots so he can make you a very nice roast bird with the islands vegetables and other plants.
Weaknesses: Cato is very competitive, challenge him to doing something and he will not sit still until he is the best, its easy to manipulate him if you know exactly how to challenge him. Cato is also allergic to nuts, he found that out the hard way when he ate a handful seemingly normal nuts and died 5 minutes later
Other: he managed to befriend a bird on the island. He calls her Hecate because she took him to a cave where sunlight came through a holed in the roof, hit the crystals, and created a fire, a sacred symbol of the goddess.
(Oooooh I like slightly unhinged characters, those are fun)
(First time writing one, hopefully it goes good lol)
(I'm sure it will. I cannot wait to start this!)
(I can't wait either, it's going to be such a fun roleplay.)
(We need a just one more person, if any of you know someone who light be interested, you're welcome to take them!)
( @Tired-but-passionate Not sure if you're interested in this but I thought you might like it)
(Ooo hello all, this does intrigue me. I haven’t really done a group rp in a while, but I suppose I could give it a try ^^)
(You're welcome to join!)
(Alright, then I will! I suppose the Peasant is the only one left? I actually have a very good character for this ^^)
(Sweet, we can start soon.)
Name/any nicknames: Victoria Birdwhistle
Age: 27
Gender/pronouns: female, she/her
Sexuality: straight? Bicurious?
Personality: generally a very sweet soul, Victoria is kind and empathetic, always willing to help someone in need. She’s usually pretty quiet, however, and tends to enjoy her own company. Practically minded, and enjoys simple physical activities/ getting stuff done. If you dare threaten her son (or anyone she loves, anyway), however, mother instincts will kick in and she will gladly fight you tooth and nail before you could lay a finger on them. She’s also rather clever, but she isn’t really known for her intelligence. This is partly because she’s extremely observant and can notice things that others may not, but she expresses her emotions and reaction to those observations, rather than the observations themselves, if that makes sense.
Appearance: Victoria stands at around 5’7 with a skinny hourglass body with pale, milky skin. She has a heart-shaped face, a small nose, and thin lips. Her eyes are large and round, and a golden brown color. There’s a birthmark in the shape of a misshapen arrowhead in the middle of her spine. And with her gingery red hair, she looks as though she comes from Scotland when in fact she’s from England. It comes down to her shoulder blades, though she usually keeps it pinned up and out of the way.
Role: the Peasant
How they found the bottle: she took her son out for a walk along a creek one afternoon when she found the bottle. She had thought it contained news of the war, perhaps of a sunken navy fleet or something of that sort, and opened the letter to be sure.
Any background info: Victoria grew up in England during the American Revolution. Her childhood was rather uneventful aside from her father getting drafted into the war and her mother growing verbally abusive as the years went by, mostly saying how Victoria was a burden to her and their family. Best case scenario, Victoria was at least tolerated in her own home. Once she was old enough her mother mostly used her for work around the house, continuing into her adulthood. There was a period of time where she and her mother had to take in a small group of soldiers. One became particularly friendly with Victoria, until one night when she awoke to find him r@ping her. Her mother found out soon after, and she was forced to either marry the soldier or be thrown out of the house. Terrified of marrying her r@pist, she ran away to live with her friend Charlotte. The two of them lived together, making a living by mending soldiers uniforms and cleaning weapons. After a few months they realized Victoria was pregnant, and had to stall their contribution to the war effort to prepare. After she gave birth to her son, Judah, she experienced a long period of postpartum depression. Having Charlotte with her made it easier, thankfully.
Outfits: at the time of finding the bottle, she was wearing a pair of jumps over a white shift, with a green cotton skirt and beige jacket. Due to her skill in sewing, she was able to salvage the outfit as it wore out over time, repurposing some of the garments to be better suited for life on the island.
Hobbies/talents: as she loves doing simple, procedural, and soothing tasks, she definitely found a love for sewing, cooking, and gardening. She’s very good at all of them, though she’ll tell you that her cooking needs some work. She also has a talent for multitasking and planning, as well as staying organized. Not really a talent, but she also possesses a very high pain tolerance
Weaknesses: she has a tendency to repress her feelings and be a little too selfless. There’s also a fear of inadequacy and failure that indirectly makes her a bit of a procrastinator. At the same time, if she’s in a really bad place she tends to overwork herself to the point where she nearly can’t function.
Other: has undiagnosed depression and PTSD, experiences dissociation
(I love Victoria so much omg. Would you like to ship our characters?)
(I've been awake for a total of 9 hours after getting only 2.5 hours of sleep last night so I'll try to get a starter up soon)
(Last note, throughout the rp, there will flashback scenes where the all but The Captain will talk about life on the island so it will be your decision if you want to partake in these sections. There also isn't an order of arrival, it depends on what time period your character is from. The Captain will be the last because he is from the modern world and The First will be the first to arrive because he comes from ancient Greece.) (Any questions I'll be happy to answer.)
(Glad you like her! I don’t mind shipping our characters @StarkSpangledMayflower ^^ and thanks for the info, kinda wanna figure out the exact order each character arrived)
(Everyone having an emotional flash back. Bennet: Soooo, this is some nice sand)
(Lmao poor Bennet. I'm not the best with tmes periods so you guys can just take one of the 4 remaining places)
It was exhausting. This was probably the 50th time he had died since arriving and the most recent time he died was so stupid. Cato went swimming, trying to spear some fish for dinner, and got caught in between 2 sharks and a snack of jellyfish. He tried swimming back to shore but got tangled in the long sea grass and seaweed then drowned. Cato woke up on the base of the tree looking 20 years younger than he was when he died 2 minutes ago. He walked back to the main beach and saw the other 4 walking around camp doing stuff.
Unlike the first day he was on the beach, there were houses and a small storage shed for food. Cato sighed and went into the main house and into one of the corner rooms to cross out the spear fishing plan, that was a fail. Now in the wall there were only 6 remaining plans on how to efficiently get fish. One of them was digging a pool on the beach that was fed by the sea to trick fish into coming there for easy hunting. Deep in thought, Cato sat back on a cushion he had made a long time ago. The smell of burnt flesh broke him out of his cycle of thought. "What's going on?" He ran outside in a worry. Someone had been doing something with animal fur and wasn't watching it. It had fallen into the fire and started burning. Seeing the burning fur made Cato groan, thrown sand on the flames, and curse in ancient greek. "Come on guys, leaving a fire unattended is one of things we agreed we wouldn't do."
(I'll be the third.)
___________________________________________________________________________________
Yukime awoke just before Cato had gotten to camp; she reminisced on how she died. It was honestly kinda stupid, seeing as she should've known what Nightshade was by then. Nonetheless, she had died just a few years ago because she ate a plant that she should've known was poison. She let out a small sigh and got up from her spawn.
Smelling the burning flesh and singed hair, she went to see what happened. When she saw the burnt hide, she let out a small growl and breathed deeply. "Watashi o karakatteru no," she said, aggravated, "who did this?!" She waited for an answer that she probably wouldn't get, tapping her foot as she did. Though she owned fur herself, she hated to see hides being wasted like this. She wasn't in the best of moods today; her death had made her look stupid and she honestly was kind of tired of this, despite not being here for that many.
(Sorry that this reply is a little short.)
Bennet kicked at the sand on his walk home, It hadn't been the greatest of day's. He woke up only to be informed that His Mom was going on tour again, leaving him alone in the house for 6 months. Well maybe it hadn't been that bad of a day but nothing had happened sense this morning to make it a better one. He chose to walk home along the beach in hopes that the sunset along the shore line would bring something good into a joyless day. His hopes were met, the sky shifted and twisted as the sun dipped below the horizon, the ocean reflecting the pink, red and purple shades in the waves. He took the time to pull out his camera and take pictures, the day's rain clouds adding texture and depth to the colors. The glint of glass prompted him to put away the camera and venture closer to the waves.
He found the source to be a sizable bottle a rather old one by the looks of it, it wasn't empty. Bee would have left it, in foresight he should have let it be, but the video he had watched earlier of the sea turtles swimming in trash prompted him to get his shoes wet and pick up the bottle. It was his duty as a human being to keep the beach clean. Popping off the sealed cork he dumped it into his hand, a worn piece of paper fell into his hand, clearly folded and refolded hundreds of times. The paper it's self told a story, water marks and tears giving it a character of it's own, as Bennet read the writing he found it contained a story as well. That was his last thought before the sound of rushing water filled his senses, cold, dark and the burning smell of the salty ocean.
–
Bennet's consciousness returned to find he was in the wrong place, it sounded wrong and, was that burning hair? It certainly smelled wrong, he cracked open his eyes to find it was the entirely wrong time of day, and very much the wrong time of year. He brushed the sand out of his hair sitting up, his eye's beginning to focus, glancing around the scenery. He stood up, then froze, immediately sitting back down as his brain registered the sights in front of him. "Is- am I? Who the F-" He checked himself, these were new people you didn't swear at new people, "Sorry, Who are you? Where is my house?" Remembering his phone was in his pocket he reached for it franticly, relieved when it turned on, the panic returning when he saw he had no signal. "Where On this Planet could we possibly be where I am not getting a single Flipping bar!" This upset him, more than waking up on a strange beach with strange people, there was no signal, he was disconnected from his world. He stood up again his phone in the air running around trying to find even the slightest hint of connection, there was none, he was stranded and disconnected.
He turned back to the people, "I have a really important Paper due! Professor Turns will have my head!" He ran his hands through his hair trying to calm the panic bubbling up inside him. "Do you think there's a policy for turning late work if I got stranded in the middle of nowhere, the syllabus said no late work but there must be exceptions right? This is an extreme case, I'm sure Mom could talk to the school, No she left for tour this morning! I can't bug her about school, Hell I can't even reach her." Words began to tumble from his mouth a never ending stream of words half of which wouldn't make sense to a modern audience.
(Sorry it's so bland my writing game is not strong today)
Compared to the last few times he has died, this one was not too bad, or at least in his opinion. Rafael was busy fixing the roof to one of the homes, using a high latter to help him when he suddenly fell off. Now here he is, alive and at the base once again. Although he went on, trying to figure out how to get back into his system, he was not that happy about having to die again. It gets to be too much for him, and he always feels guilty every time he comes back to life.
The smell of burning animal fur helped him snap back into reality. Speaking of feeling guilty….When hearing Yukime, he slowly started to lift his hand up, only to immediately lower it afterwards. He was not sure how that happened, but he felt like it was his fault. Maybe it was maybe it wasn't, he couldn't recall. His eyes followed in suit, looking down at the sand.
In his peripherals, he noticed a new person amongst them. His eyes lit up as his head tilted up to get a better look at the new one, but they were quite strange to say the least. Strange clothes and strange tongue. Rafael was only able to understand half of what the person said. Though he tried to follow along, once he heard one unknown word after another, his mind gave up.
He looked at the newcomer, giving a welcoming smile. A string of chuckles left him as he went over to pat them on the shoulder. "You silly, professors don't execute people. Only counts and kings can do that, but as long as you followed orders, it is fine," He reassured. "Don't worry new friend, everything is okay!" Glancing over his shoulder, he looked at Cato. "Right?"
(Imma be the fifth cuz that’s just the logical conclusion I came to based on what has been said so far haha)
The others had told her this would happen, but Victoria still gasped in shock when she awoke, air filling her lungs once more. She lay in the bed where she died, her body younger and somewhat healthier than when she last remembered it being. Her death was slow and sickly. One day she did not feel like eating or drinking, and thus began a long period of starving herself. As the months passed, she was soon unable to get herself out of bed. It was a half-life of sleeping and nothingness, and she was actually glad when that fever came upon her and gave her sweet release.
Now, lifting up her hand and arm and breathing heavily, her release was gone. Her lifted limb was still thin and bony as it had always been, but the signs of age were nowhere to be found. Tears pricked at her eyes. Victoria lowered her arm, lifting her head instead to look out the window.
Her poor garden… it had been neglected for so long, it was almost like a wasteland. Well, she decided, if she was going to be alive again, might as well make the most of it and make her garden alive again too. She slipped out of bed, stumbling a bit as a wave of dizziness came over her. She put her hand on the wall to balance herself. From here Cato and Yukime’s voices were faint and dream-like.
Once she stepped outside the smell of burning and smoke hit her nose, and a voice she didn’t recognize crying out a panicked stream of strange words hit her ears. Seeing that nothing was on fire except for the fire pit and… an animal hide? She turned toward the voice- voices now, and saw Rafael with a strange looking boy.
“Lord, you’ve given me life, for which I am thankful,” she prayed, though her words were a little empty, “now I ask that you give me strength.” Her voice was small and breathy from being out of use.
She moved over to them, curious about the newcomer. She gave Rafael a warm smile, or at least as warm as she could make it, then turned to the boy. “My, you poor lad. Are you alright? We can make you something to eat, if you like. What’s your name?”
(Side note: not everyone does at the same time, whoever dies just gets reset back into the base, kinda like a game)
Cato glanced over at the newcomer and saw Rafael talking to them. "Great, yet another." He sighed and walked over to them. "Welcome to Ogygia. You needn't worry about…what ever you just said, no one who comes to Ogygia, leaves again." Cato grabbed a straw hat and placed it on his head. "You will burn. I am Cato, the eldest. What year have you come from?"
(Also, sorry its short, didn't really have much to go on lol)
Yukime decided to add to the conversation about the new person. "Looks like a very odd year, to say the least," she injected, "just look at his clothes and the strange little rectangle in his hands." She chuckled a little mockingly before returning to the conversation. "My name is Yukime Kobayashi," she added, "but obviously you must know that."
(Ngl, im loving Yukime's bitchy attitude 😂)
"We'll nothing is impossible, you have the wood here, it wouldn't be that hard to get something sea worthy together and leave if you know what you're doing." He commented tucking his phone in his pocket, he turned it off, he should preserve battery power, there were other functions he was sure would come in handy. His moment of panic over he took in the people around him. His panic was also driven away by the words of one of these individuals.
"Strange- my clothes?- Ya! This is my Mom's merch! I had to beg her to get this hoodie ahead of release! I'll have you know this is the coziest hoody in California!" Bennet huffed folding his arms and sitting back down crossing his legs. The lavender hoodie that had "Willow" scrawled across the back in delicate white print tied around his waist was probably the least strange thing about Bee's outfit to the Islanders. The light pink octagonal Beret, chain drop earrings and ear cuff's probably raised more questions. His lose black T shirt and light blue jeans that completed the look were inoffensive enough to an ancient gaze, "Is it because my boots have rainbows painted on the side? I know Pride month is over but they're comfy and who say's you can't wear rainbows year round?"
He ignored the other questions, to insulted by this Yukime's comment about his fashion to grace her with an answer, "Who are you people anyway."
(Sorry I wasn't on earlier, I was driving all day)
(Not a problem, we dint have a reply order so people can respond when they are avalaible)
"Merch? Cally-four-nee-ah? Hoody? I understand none of those words. I am Cato Oliver, I come from Athens and was good friends with Aristotle. I have died too many times to tell you how old I truly am, but I was 25 when I first came onto this island." Cato walked over to the strange boy and sat on the sand, using his cape to keep the sand from burning him. "As for your statement about leaving the island by using its resources, we tried that a few times. I tried to leave when I was alone and drowned. The next couple times we tried as a group, different things happened that killed us. We gave up and are now hoping for the day that the island let's us doe in peace." Cato explained the history of their early days on the island. A depressed hush fell on the island as they, unwantingly, remembered their past.
After Yukime was done remembering the past, and the family she missed so much, she turned her attention onto the new kid.
"Kimyōna shōnen, what was that thing you put in your pants?" She kind of yelled this at him, though it was an enthusiastic yell. She had also decided that she would call the newcomer Kimyōna shōnen (strange boy in Japanese) until, and maybe even after, she discovered his name. Calling people things in Japanese was kind of a thing she liked to do and worked well when she didn't know someone's name.
(Not gonna lie, Yukime's attitude toward Bee reminds me of MID.)
(I don't have most of my art supplys with me but until I cam make a better one this is a rough sketch of Bennet that I'm adding to his character template https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/fife/AAWUweV6vbNiTAXGb9li9KuZ9d-zu0VnHSkW_ptypuIxDeL2lHLksEvDycvfPyVYhI1yrjDndEFTJKqHX8DsrOFimvwQvxxZpmtDRWTqmK9LNh-q2rehUczrYNCmJDpIRh0DuzC30jckaP8B3cXK-PzhZRpfmQ66JecZwdjUpC4Syw0Fss-uU7QUDQvw4qWmWKsXU2SwsW1GKR2nblDKCnh-p-fAocE_MPkoNEgOjdzRNh4qbCqaQvVQ_IZX4WJmjNY0Lef7lZy9fL9iFncACMPSFL4GVPqXGgmWfivBaHnGW9kQxgvf3I_HP8wEQX_VFjRVBrroFMqoUadda8e0NLtCEA3RrVtcHplIRoifaSvi9vKpsjfkZwuvKIOEyVj52JaqU2-HyGtACLZh4fRXLlVGMtSRhSHIWSTeWcTyEC0W1xaA8ZF0Ii1o3Kje5qKJyGTClr7aIKTdQ6sbiCQEAZHqE1RsxqqeSC1q3bfoipWaUCrBvLtOSR1lUCJxfoklF8dpZZ34VAGSoqcgekJkmQjaDI59JbERi9KIf413egUNr4X_MUEooOnDpel56CZfeJFrdsO1idNmIBYAWOp0mqMWC9WHripKHJaAsZ_z9FTIc3sCcfB992YefqkkKCztvfB3mvDt7twuCn4MGYZ8beu0kZF5VUEdTdXAg3Pm5DjX61YOXBl31wPKiQqeJOWoF9TY_he4Mad2QTa0GRedcAsCIKbopwq_SlqZmoE=w1134-h1512?authuser=0 )
