Sophie simply watched her as she took another swallow from her drink.
Sophie simply watched her as she took another swallow from her drink.
She looked over at Sophie, smiling faintly.
Sophie smiled back, not minding that she had been caught staring. “You ready to play some pool?”
"Yeah, let's do it."
“Alright.” she smiled as she stood up.
She got up, looking over at the pool table.
Sophie sauntered confidently over to the familiar tables and started setting up the billiard balls in the rack.
She followed Sophie over, watching quietly.
Sophie smiled up at her and straightened up. “You want to be stripes or solids?” she asked, referring to the different types of balls.
"Oh, I don't care."
“Alright. Well, I can be solids if you want. That way you don't have to worry about the eight ball.” she offered.
"Alright, syre."
“Ok.” she nodded, grabbing a couple of cue sticks and handing one over to Raven. “You wanna break?”
"Huh?" She blinked at her uncertainly, holding the cue stick.
“Oh, sorry. It's a pool term for scattering the balls with the cue.” she explained as she took the triangle rack off the table and pointing at the plain white ball with her stick.
"Oh, right, okay."
“It’s alright. I asked and you told me that you've never played before.” she apologized. “Uhh, do you know how to hold that to shoot?” she asked in realization.
"No?" she looked over at the other woman uncertainly.
Sophie shook her head with a light chuckle. “Right. Alright, I’ll break so you can see how. And I can help you on your turn.” she offered.
"Alright, that works." she stepped back, laughing a little.
“Good.” Sophie laughed a little with her as she placed the cue ball down and lining up her shot. With one quick stroke, she hit the plain white ball, knocking it into the neat triangle and scattering the remaining fifteen balls all over the green felt.
She watched quietly, observing the way Sophie did it.
Sophie smiled a little, proud of the break. Though she may have been showing off just a little. “Alright. Your turn.” she encouraged. “All you have to do is pick a striped ball and try to knock it into one of the pockets with the cue ball. The plain white one.” she explained. “If you knock it in, you get to go again.”
"So I hit the white ball?" she asked, looking over at Sophie.
“Yep.” she nodded. “And try not to knock anything else into a pocket. Especially a solid color.”
"Okay. I think I get it."
“Alright.” Sophie smiled. “Go ahead and line up your shot.”
"Alright." she bent, doing her best to imitate what Sophie had done earlier.
“Try to relax a little. You look a bit stiff.” she suggested gently.
She nodded faintly, trying to relax.
