“So am I.” Mari said with a small, weak, smile. “But how would you help? I know you want to but I… I guess I'm just having a hard time trying to wrap my head around the idea.” she admitted, sighing lightly.

"Well… there are some kinds of food that you've probably never had before because of where they're stored, so… honestly, I'd be happy to make a bit extra food and share it with you for meals." Darius offered a small smile.

Mara nodded with something of a wry smile at that. She was sure there was a lot of food that she hadn't tried before. Either because of where it was kept, the size of the food, or just too noticeable to take. “Are you sure?” she asked softly, almost hopeful. It was strange being offered anything but there was also this feeling of needing to pay back this gift somehow.

"I am completely, totally sure," Darius said with a nod. "I'd love to!" The man offered a sweet smile, crossing his legs as he sat there.
"It'll be fun."

Mara couldn't help a brief soft laugh at his enthusiastic certainty as she gave him a small smile. “Ok.” she nodded. “Thank you.”

"You're welcome! Of course, I will need your help," Darius pointed out. "I'd love to have your input on what you'd like to try!"

“Oh… Uhh, I…” Mara looked up for a moment before blushing. “I don't really know. I… I’m not particular on foods in general. And I honestly don't know what you call a lot of your foods.” she admitted shyly.

"Well, we'll figure it out together then! It's okay, it makes sense you wouldn't." Darius smiled at Mara as she blushed, head tilting.

“Ok.” Mara smiled back, a little relieved that he understood… Or at least seemed to understand. She was able to read and overheard things but she couldn't learn everything that way.

Darius did understand Mara's situation, thankfully. She had been focused on surviving and not being seen, he couldn't expect her to know everything about everything.
"Do you know anything, in particular, you'd like to start with for dinner later?"

Mara looked at Darius thoughtfully for a moment before shaking her head. “I… I hadn't really thought about… I mean, I was probably just going to have some more soup and make some bread to go with it.” she admitted softly, a little shy again.

Darius nodded some as Mara explained.
"Okay, then," he said, offering a small smile. "Since you already have dinner planned out, we can do something tomorrow then!" The man smiled, hands folded neatly in his lap. He was almost like an obedient, hyper puppy, wanting to make sure Mara was comfortable.

Mara smiled back with a small nod. “That sounds good to me.” she told him. She hadn't really been sure when she was going to eat the rest of the soup but if Darius really was going to share some of his food with her, then it wouldn't hurt much for her to have more of her own food.

"Good!" Darius grinned at Mara's confirmation, moving to stand. He put the scale away, seeming to have completely forgotten how he had planned on trying to figure out if she had a good weight or not.

Mara moved back a little more when Darius picked up the scale, though she was still smiling a little at him. She wasn't really scared of him or him accidentally hurting her. She just felt that he needed space to move without worrying about that possibility. “So… What do we do now?” she asked.

"No idea," Darius admitted. He closed the cabinet, moving to sit down again. He was grateful, for Mara making sure she wasn't too close when he was moving around like that. He didn't admit it, but he was terrified that he'd accidentally drop something on her, or drop her, or knock into her with his elbow or hand, or just, in general, hurt her on accident.

Mara chuckled a little and nodded, leaning back on a smooth cool container beside her. She didn't notice what kind it was or what was in it but she didn't really care. “Me either.” she smiled a little as she tried to think of something that they could do or talk about.

"I, uh, it seems both of us don't really get out to hang out with people much," Darius commented. He knew why Mara didn't of course, but he wasn't exactly a social butterfly when it came to things like this either. He hummed softly, thinking but coming up with nothing.

Mara laughed and shook her head at the statement. “I guess not.” she agreed, wondering why Darius was just as socially awkward as she was, considering she thought she had a reasonable excuse.

Darius chuckled some as well. He didn't get much socializing as a child, and he'd just never been comfortable around most people.
It seemed to help that Mara could fit in the palm of his hand, though.

“Umm, what do you normally do?” she asked.
Mara had likewise not had much interaction outside her own family as visitors were scarce. It wasn't uncommon for a house like Darius's to hold more than one family of Mara's size, however, she hadn't seen any signs of that when she searched the house before moving in and her previous home had been the same.

"Normally?" Darius thought a moment. "I usually am watching a movie by now, since I ate and finished my work. I've, ah, spent many a day just doing that until I passed out since I have nothing else to do." Darius didn't interact with people much, and that was okay with him.

“Is that the thing that always makes those noises and makes the house sound like there's more people even when it's just you?” Mara asked, feeling a little silly as the words came out.

"Mm," Darius said, nodding. He didn't see what she was saying as silly- she didn't know what the television was called, and that was probably all she knew about it.
"Perhaps we could watch something together?"

Mara shrugged a little but nodded, curious about what all the noise was about. “Sure.” she smiled at him as she pushed herself up off the container she had been leaning against. “Is there anything I need to know first?”

"Mm… Well, there are a lot of different things we could watch. Are there any kinds of stories you enjoy?" Darius moved to offer his hand to Mara, ready to head out to the living room.

Mara climbed up onto his hand and gave him a confused look. “Well, I like good stories. Especially about things that I haven't seen or probably won't get to see. But I don't understand… Are movies just stories you can watch?” she asked.

"That's exactly what they are, actually," Darius said with a small chuckle. He raised Mara up to be near his chest, moving out to the living room.
"And I can find some movies about those things, for sure."

Mara smiled a little, glad that she had guessed right, and sat down as Darius carried her. “What are some of the stories you enjoy?” she asked him. Since he had asked her, she wanted to be polite and learn more about him.

"Well," Darius said, thinking as he moved to the living room. He sat down, looking around.
"Where you would like to sit?" He asked, still in thought as to what story he'd like to share with Mara.
