Gabe was careful as he lifted Mara out, his second hand coming up to offer her support, like a wall to keep her from falling. He started moving to the kitchen, still smiling.
"It really is," he agreed.

“Thanks.” Mara smiled a little up at Darius, appreciating his caution. She was curious about how much she weighed… Though she honestly had no benchmark for whatever a healthy weight was for someone her size, so she might be able to keep Darius from worrying about her.
(Do you have any ideas about what the scale should say for her weight?)
(Hmmmm… a couple grams? I have no idea lol)
She might, seeing as Darius wasn't one for math and he didn't think he could just look up a healthy BMI for someone four inches tall.
The man hummed softly in turn of Mara's thanks, moving into the kitchen and setting her down on the counter. He reached up into the cabinet, pulling out his scale.
(me either. I just tried looking somethings up to try to help out and only got a headache… 😅)
Mara shifted a couple times as Darius carried her. She was growing a little more worried the closer they got to the kitchen. She had no way of knowing what exactly he needed to know to point out if she was considered healthy or not… And decided to try and not think about it. She let out a shaky breath as he brought her to the counter, before taking a careful step off and watching him get the small measuring scale.
(Yeah… we can always just vaguely mention it or something lol)
Darius turned the scale on, zeroing it out before turning to Mara.
"Here, step on here. It'll let us know how much you weigh!" The man grinned, seeming to be having fun just hanging out and doing what he saw as just goofy things.
(yeah… That might be a good idea.)
Mara nodded, giggling at his silliness, and climbed onto the scale. “Am I doing it right?” she asked as she stood in the center.
(XD)
"Yes," Darius said, nodding some. He waited for the scale to load, then read Mara's weight out loud.
"See?" He said, smiling. "Told you it could weigh you!"
“Wow.” Mara said softly in surprise. She hadn't doubted Darius but it was still incredible to hear and see how much she weighed. “That’s actually a little more than what I thought I was.” she admitted.
(Mara is a little under 18 times shorter than Darius. Doing the math for the average 18 year old and then dividing it by 18, Mara would be anywhere under 3734 grams, but it's way too big a number, but for perspective a barbie doll weighs like 23 grams according to google)
(Iris you are a literal life saver thank you so much)
"Really?" Darius pulled a chair over to the counter, offering a finger to help Mara down from the scale. "It seems like a good weight to me, but I'm not really sure…"
(and Mara is much shorter than a Barbie doll 😆)
(Thanks for doing the math, Iris! <3)
“Me either.” Mara told him sincerely, accepting his help in getting down. “But with what you were telling me about healthy weights and everything… I guess I just aimed lower because of my size.”
"Ah, okay then!" Darius smiled some, a bit of concern showing before going away. "Well, we could always try to do the math to figure out what your healthy weight range is, though I can't promise I'll get it right."
Mara looked up at him and sort of froze. On one hand, it would be good to know for sure if she really was healthy or not… But she didn't want Darius to worry about her after what he said about his friend. “You… you don't have to.” she finally answered keeping her voice soft.

(Thanks for doing the math, Iris! <3)
(well yes, but they're made of plastic rather than flesh and bone-)
(And no prob)

(very true)
(you know… After some hindsight and a brief search; we could say that she weighs about as much as a mouse… maybe less would work better.)
(About 25 grams is what a mouse weighs)
(So… 23 grams still works XD)
"You… sure?" Darius was a bit confused by Mara's answer, somewhat concerned now. "It wouldn't be too hard…"
“Well… No, I'm not sure.” she confessed, rubbing her arm shyly. “I’m not sure of a lot of things. It's just the way life is for me. I… I didn't want to cause any trouble for you. But, if you really want to find out then I just don't want you to worry if… if it turns out that I’m not healthy.” Mara explained as her gaze drifted so she was no longer looking at him.
Darius listened, his concern only growing.
"Mara… If we find out that you are unhealthy, I'm not going to lie to you and say I won't be worried. But… If you really aren't, it might, not, be a bad thing, for me to be worried about you. That… if you aren't, I want to help. Trust me, I know, it can take a lot of getting used to, to ask for help, or even accept it when it's offered…"
Mara nodded a little, almost having expected to get a speech of some kind, but couldn't hold back a small dry laugh. “Yeah. And I've never asked anyone for anything. Especially, not someone like you… No offense.” she added quickly. “It’s just I spent my whole life trying to avoid anyone bigger than me. Now, I… You're actually offering to help me?” she asked somewhere between disbelief and irony at the situation.
"None taken," Darius said in turn. "And I am, really. I… trust me, I get it. This entire situation is… well, it's a bit unbelievable, even to me." Darius let out a breath. He knew this was all something that really no one would expect to be happening between two as different as them.
“Unbelievable is a good way to say it.” she agreed with another short laugh. “The thought of this happening would have scared my mother to death.” Mara admitted as she remembered how… overly cautious the older woman was. “But why do you want to help me anyway? Is it just because I remind you of what happened to your friend?”
"It's not just because of that. In fact, it's not much of a reason at all. I'm worried about you because I've taken the time to understand that it can have a lot of bad effects on you to stay like this." Darius let out a soft sigh, moving a bit closer.
Mara furrowed her brow as she failed to come up with a reply to that. She wasn't used to having someone worry her…
“What kinds of bad effects?” she asked, instinctively taking a step back when he moved closer.
(boop)
(Oop, I'm sorry!)
Darius noticed how Mara moved back, mumbling a small sorry and pulling back from the counter.
"Well," the man started. He didn't want to scare Mara with this, but… well, it was something to be scared of. "The first thing to happen is you lose energy, and it gets harder to do things. It's easier to get sick, too. Then, your body tries to find ways to get the things you aren't from food, and it starts to eat at itself to get it. And… if it's let go for too long…" Darius trailed off.
(It’s cool.)
Mara blushed a little and shook her head, feeling a little bad when she realized her actions. She took a couple steps toward Darius and sat down on the counter as she brushed his apology aside with one of her own.
The tiny girl nodded thoughtfully as he explained what happened. “Well, I’ve never really been sick before and I don't think I've lost any energy…” she told him truthfully and hoping to assure him somewhat, as well as herself. “Things can be hard anyway when you're… Well, I don't need them to get harder.”
"Well, that's good, at least," Darius agreed. "I'm glad for it, too." The man let out a relieved breath, nodding a bit.
"And I want to help make things not so hard anymore. I don't want you to have to worry."
