Rafael reluctantly let go of Arien’s hand, taking the healer’s offered arm, standing up.
Arien moved to stand as well, but the healer shook her head.
"I'll see you soon," Arien promised, setting his hand on Rafael's arm for a moment. "I'll stay right here the entire time."
He nodded. “Okay.” He said, managing to stay calm, reminding himself that these people were just trying to help him. Still, it was weird to be leaving Arien’s side.
Arien moved to stand, gently kissing Rafael's cheek.
After giving the two men their moment, the healer turned, careful as she led Rafael through the house.
"How are you with small spaces?"
“I’m fine with them.” He said, a bit curious as to why she would ask but figuring the answer wouldn’t really matter that much to him anyway.
"Good." The healer led Rafael into a room with swinging doors, having him sit down on a medical chair.
Rafael sat down, doing his best to not let his nerves get the best of him. He just sat there quietly, waiting to see what else was needed of him.
"I'm going to explain what the procedure we're going to do tonight, alright?" The healer asked. They sounded to be on the other side of the room, papers shuffling.
He nodded. “Okay, go ahead.” He said, his voice managing to remain steady.
"We're going to have you wear a special pair of glasses. These are made of plastic, and they're going to make sure your eyes don't accidentally open. Then, we're going to have you go into the treatment area. It's a bit like a tanning booth, in size, and it's going to have the lights in it to activate the medicine you've been taking. If you feel any discomfort, feel free to speak out. It's important for me to know, to keep anything from going wrong." The healer came back over to Rafael.
He nodded again. “Okay I understand. I’ll make sure to let you know if I have any issues.”
"Good." The healer carefully set the glasses on Rafael, helping the man stand up.
Rafael let her lead him to where he needed to go, praying that nothing would go wrong with the procedure.
Too bad the gods are assholes.:)
The healer led Rafael to the equipment, helping him lay down in it. Once Rafael was secure, she closed it, moving back.
"Alright, I'm going to turn it on."
((They are but they better not fuck this up I stg))
“Okay.” He said, trying to stay as still as possible. He took a deep breath, doing his best to stay calm.
(Swim's Extended Multiverse of Egotistical Narcisism)
(SEME- shit)
The healer reached to the control panel, flipping a switch.
The light that bathed over Rafael tingled over his body, seeping into him. The feeling slowly traveled up the man, to focus on his eyes.
((YESSS THAT HAS TO BE THE TITLE))
The feeling surprised him, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. He stayed still, taking steady breaths.
(AHA SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!)
"Alright, this is going to take about twenty minutes," the healer called out. It would sound like she was talking to Rafael through water at this point.
Rafael nodded a bit, even though he guessed she most likely couldn’t see it. This was a very strange experience, not unpleasant, just weird.
The healer was quiet, then, keeping a close monitor on Rafael and his status. The tingling grew as the time continued, but it didn't get uncomfortable.
Rafael was grateful for that, afraid that at any second, something would go wrong.
"Alright, we're almost done," the healer said. "Just one more minute." That's when the stabbing pain would hit, just behind Rafael's eyes.
((Noooooooo))
Rafael instinctively just cursed in pain before remembering to use his fucking words. “Something’s wrong it hurts!” He said quickly, loud enough for the healer to hear him.
The healer hesitated, looking down at the timer.
"I- Do you think you can hold out? We only have thirty seconds left!"
If she said it was okay then he was determined to do it. “Y-yeah I can!” He called back. The pain would be worth it if he could get his vision back.
"Twenty, nineteen," The healer called out the numbers to give Rafael assurance, growing more nervous themself.
"If things get too bad, you have to tell me!"
“I will!” He reassured them. He was determined to make it through this. Less than 20 seconds.
"Fifteen, fourteen," the healer continued. The pain would be getting steadily worse, right behind Rafael's eyes.
"Twelve, eleven, ten..!"
Rafael kept telling himself that he could make it. The pain wasn’t too bad yet. It wasn’t overwhelming. He could do this.
"Five… four… three…" The pain was getting worse, seeming to take up all of Rafael's head. It was spreading as it grew worse and worse, reaching further down the man's body.
