Mr. Brennahan nodded, deciding just to go home. As the approached the house, he looked to Lucas with a slight hum. “I’ll have to go pick up Melissa later tonight. Do you want to go with me when I do?”

"Sure. Hopefully she'll be feeling a bit better by the time we go get her…" Lucas sighed, getting out of the car with Cody in his arms when they reached the house.

“I’m hoping so… I don’t know what would make her feel better. Any ideas?” Mr. Brennahan asked as he headed up to the house.

"Well, she likes the blanket fort… I can hang out in there with her when we get back. We can make some hot chocolate and bring in Cody…" Lucas hummed thoughtfully.

“That sounds like a good plan… is there anything I could help with?” He asked as he started towards the kitchen.

"Um… I'm not sure, honestly. I think I can handle Mel." Lucas smiled gently up at Mr. Brennahan.

Mr. Brennahan nodded, starting to make Lucas something to eat. “Well… I guess just tell me if you think of something.” He stated softly.

Lucas nodded a bit and set Cody down on the couch on the way to the kitchen. "Alright… we'll have to make sure she eats as well."

“That’s true, I’ll make something for her too.” Mr. Brennahan hummed softly as he pulled a plate from the cabinet.

"Mm… I'll try my best to get her to eat whatever you make, sir." Lucas stretched and yawned.

“Thank you, Lucas.” He nodded a little, handing over a plate with a sandwich on it over to him. “I’ll make her one after we pick her up.”

"Thanks, sir… and alright." Lucas accepted the sandwich from Mr. Brennahan and took a bite of it. "Hopefully it doesn't make her more annoyed."

"Let's hope not… I can deal with it, if she's frustrating you. You've done plenty to try and help her today." Mr. Brennahan stated as he made himself something to eat, too.

"Mm… it's kinda frustrating when she refuses to let me help, but I can handle it." Lucas shrugged a bit.

“Well, if you do need me, you’re totally allowed to get me. I’m usually in my office, or my room.” He hummed, starting to eat his own food.

Lucas nodded again and soon finished his sandwich, bringing it over to the sink to wash it. "Alright, sir… will do."

Mr. Brennahan nodded, rinsing off his plate before setting it in the dishwasher. “Well, what do you plan to do wile we wait for Melissa?”

"I'm not sure… I guess I should probably work on trying to catch up on my schoolwork." He sighed and looked over at the papers piled on the kitchen table.

“You want me to leave you be, until I Have to go pick up Melissa?” He asked softly.

"Um… you can if you want." Lucas shrugged. "And I can go with you to pick up Mel."

“I don’t have to, if you’d rather have me stay down here.” Mr. Brennahan hummed, leaning on the door frame.

"You can do whichever you prefer, sir… I'll be alright on my own." Lucas sat down at the table and picked up his pencil.

“Right… you can come get me, if you need anything.” He nodded, heading off.

Lucas nodded in return and started on his homework, tapping one foot on the ground as he worked.

A couple hours passed before Mr. Brennahan cake back downstairs. Glancing into the kitchen, he smiled at Lucas. “You ready to go?”

Lucas jumped a bit at the sudden voice and nodded. "Yeah, I'm ready…" He set down his pencil, seemingly having gotten through a fair few assignments.

Mr. Brennahan nodded, twirling his car keys around his index finger. “Are you bringing Cody with you?” He asked, starting out the door.

"Uh… yeah, sure." Lucas whistled for Cody and followed Mr. Brennahan out to the car.

Starting the car up, he glanced at his watch with a soft sigh. “I wish she didn’t have to work so late…” He mumbled to himself.

"Yeah…" Lucas yawned a bit and sighed as well. "She definitely gets the late shifts, unfortunately."
