Melissa was sitting at her desk, braiding her hair back out of her face. When she caught a glimpse of Lucas in her mirror, she gave a gentle smile. “Hey hon, you can sit on my bed if you’d like.” She hummed a bit, tying off the end.
"Alright…" Lucas sat down on the bed as instructed, fidgeting nervously with his sleeves. He obviously wasn't looking forward to going back to the hospital. "Hopefully it'll be a quick trip, yeah?"
“Mhmm… I’m sure it will be.” Melissa mumbled, doing her makeup as she talked. Glancing over to him, she flashed a small smile before turning back to the mirror. “You’re gonna be fine, love. I promise. I’ll be there, and my dad will be too. They’re not gonna hurt you.”
Lucas nodded a bit, sighing softly and closing his eyes. "Y-Yeah, I'm sure you're right… I just feel really uneasy when I'm there. But I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll be fine. Everything… everything will be fine."
"Is it because of the last time?" Melissa asked softly, glancing over at him. "And what happened afterward? The whole… mental hospital thing?"
"Yeah, probably… I dunno." Lucas closed his eyes for a moment. "I know they won't hurt me or anything, but… still makes me nervous."
"Yeah…" Melissa mumbled, her positivity starting to go down. "I understand it. After everything, I wouldn't want to go back either. Not a good place for memory's sake."
"R-Right… I'm sure I'll be okay, though." Lucas sighed, running his fingers through his hair and getting to his feet. "We need to go to make sure I'm okay after all the drugs."
Melissa let out a soft sigh as she put her stuff away, and got to her feet. "Yeah… is there anything I can do to relax you?" She asked softly, standing by his side with a worried look.
Lucas shrugged a bit. "I'll be alright… just a little tense for a while. We should probably get going; wouldn't want to keep your dad waiting." He hesitated before heading out of Melissa's room and down the stairs.
Melissa followed Lucas with a soft sigh, lacing her fingers with his. "I love you…" She hummed a bit, following him down the stairs. "You're gonna be just fine."
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas replied softly, holding a bit tighter to Melissa's hand. He stood by the couch, waiting for Mr. Brennahan.
Melissa loosely wrapped her free arm around his waist, resting her head on his chest. "You're gonna be alright…" She mumbled, staying like that until Mr. Brennahan came downstairs. "You two ready to go?"
Lucas nodded weakly and headed towards the front door with Melissa. "Let's get this over with…" He mumbled, holding a bit tighter to Melissa's hand.
"Mhm, yeah." Melissa hummed a bit, resting her head on his shoulder after she got in the back seat. "You're gonna be alright. I promise." She whispered, giving Mr. Brennahan a soft smile.
"Mm… thanks, Mel." Lucas buckled himself in and held tightly to Melissa's hand. "I'm sure everything is gonna be fine…"
"Mhmm…" Melissa hummed softly, resting her head on his shoulder. "Everything is gonna be fine, I promise."
Lucas nodded a bit and fell silent, figuring it would be best to just keep quiet during the hospital visit unless he was spoken to. When they arrived, he got out of the car with Melissa.
Melissa kept close, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. She kept quiet as well, following along behind Mr. Brennahan. As he stood up at the front, Melissa found a spot to sit with Lucas as they waited. "Still doing okay?"
Lucas nodded quietly, sitting beside Melissa and linking his fingers with hers. "Yeah… m'alright… just gotta get this over with…" He mumbled.
"Yeah…" Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his shoulder. "I love youuu… it's gonna be just fine. It's not anything bad, right?"
"I love you too, Mel…" Lucas mumbled in return. "And I don't really know, if you mean the drugs. I've got no clue what she gave me."
"I more meant what you came in for, but that works too…" Melissa sighed softly, fidgeting with her fingers as they sat there. She bounced her leg some as she fidgeted, glancing up at him occasionally.
"Mm… I think your dad just wanted me to get checked after last night." Lucas sighed softly. "Apparently I was pretty freaked out, so they might not have been as thorough as they usually would be."
"I'm sure you were… you were drugged after all…" Melissa mumbled, taking his hand and playing with his fingers instead. "I'm sorry I wasn't there. I should have checked on you, or something."
"It's not your fault, Mel. You were at work, and your dad didn't tell you until after because he didn't want you to be stressed while you were working." He shrugged a bit.
“I just- I feel like I should have known.” Melissa mumbled, looking up at him. “Do you remember anything else from last night? Like when I got home?”
"Ah…" Lucas considered for a few seconds before shaking his head a bit. "No, not much. Hopefully I didn't do anything too stupid." He laughed weakly.
“While I was home you didn’t. We cuddled on your bed for a while, though I think you slept for most of it. It was a rough night last night, I don’t really remember.” She mumbled, keeping her head on his shoulder as she spoke. “I went and talked to my dad, so I dunno what you could have gone then.”
Lucas nodded, resting his head against Melissa's. "Well, I'm glad I didn't do anything too crazy… it sounds like freaking out about the doctor and ambulance was the worst of it." He looked up when he heard footsteps, figuring he might have to go back now.
