Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder and pulled himself closer to her. "I'm such a mess… I'm sorry you have to deal with me."
Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder and pulled himself closer to her. "I'm such a mess… I'm sorry you have to deal with me."
"It's okay… it's… it's fine." Melissa mumbled, burying her face in his shoulder.
"B-But I upset you too, Mel… I shouldn't be burdening you with all of this…" Lucas sighed shakily.
"No- no you didn't upset me. I-I'm fine." Melissa whispered, holding him closer. "Don't worry about me."
"You're not fine, Mel, and it's all my fault…" Lucas clung tighter to Melissa, trembling a bit.
"No- no I'm fine… you didn't do anything." Melissa continued to lie, holding onto him tightly.
"Melissa, I know you… I know you're not okay…" Lucas sighed again, keeping his face hidden for now.
"I- I'm fine… I'm perfectly fine…" Melissa insisted, chin resting on the top of his head.
"Melissa, please… I know you're not. You don't have to pretend that you're okay with all this."
Melissa's lip was quivering as she tried relax. "B-But… but I do…" She whispered, trying to stop the tears from running down her face.
"No you don't, Mel… you're allowed to not be okay, especially when you're stuck with me all the time. It can't exactly be easy to hang around with someone like me."
"B-But… but you don't need me to break down on you… you're already dealing with y-yourself." Melissa whispered weakly, pulling him closer as she bit on her lip.
"W-Well, we might as well break down together, right?" Lucas laughed weakly, holding on a bit tighter.
"B-But you'd try to help me- and… and I don't want you trying to help me, when… when you're like that…" Melissa whispered, furrowing her brows.
Lucas sighed and pulled Melissa closer. "But… but repressing it is really bad for you, Mel…"
Melissa buried her face in his shoulder, sucking in a deep breath. "It's… it's fine. I deal with it in my own time…" She mumbled as she still tried to collect herself.
"Mel, please… I know firsthand how bad repression is. Please just let me help…"
"B-But… but you were just having a mental break down…" Melissa whispered more as she curled up on herself. "I- I'm fine…"
"Yeah, I was, and I'm still kinda doing that, but so are you. I'm not just gonna ignore you, Melissa."
Melissa grew quiet, seeming to be attempting to deny him trying to help her. She didn't talk, only buried her face in his shoulder.
"Melissa… why is it so hard for you to let me help you?" Lucas asked weakly.
Melissa shrugged weakly, trying even harder to keep herself from crying. She already felt bad he knew something was wrong, she didn't want him having to try and calm her down. "I- I dunno…"
"I want to help you, okay? I don't want you suffering just because you feel bad about putting it on me or whatever."
Melissa was quivering in his arms, holding onto him even tighter. "B-But… but you can't… I-I'm beating myself up o-over upsetting you, and- and there's nothing you can do." She admitted weakly, choking.
"But I want to help you, okay? I love you so much, and I don't want you to have to be hurt by me."
"B-But you can't…" Melissa whispered weakly, gripping at his shirt. "I- I need to stop… I'm fine- you… you shouldn't have to deal with this."
"Mel, please… you shouldn't have to deal with this alone. I love you too much to let you do that, okay?"
Melissa grew quiet, still gripping at the fabric of his clothes. She was biting back tears, keeping her face hidden in his shoulder. She let out a heavy, shaky sigh as she nodded a little.
"Even if you don't want me to say anything, I'm here for you. I'm not gonna abandon you, Mel."
Melissa nodded again, pulling him closer. "I- I love you…" She mumbled weakly, sucking in a deep breath.
