Melissa grew quiet after that, mindlessly tracing circles still. Her mind began to wander as she sat there in silence. Though she wasn't saying anything, there was still uneasiness building in her chest.
Melissa grew quiet after that, mindlessly tracing circles still. Her mind began to wander as she sat there in silence. Though she wasn't saying anything, there was still uneasiness building in her chest.
Lucas kept quiet for Melissa, hoping she wasn't too upset with him for making her eat. He kept his arms around her and sighed.
After a little bit, Melissa looked up at him. "I- can you talk to me… I- I kinda want a distraction…" She mumbled, fiddling with her hair.
"O-Okay, uhm… what do you wanna talk about?" Lucas asked softly, resting his head against hers.
"I- I don't know… anything that's not… depressing, I guess." Melissa mumbled, picking at the fabric of her pants. "I don't really care."
"Uhm… do you wanna go outside? Back to the clearing, maybe?" He asked. "N-Not right now, obviously… unless you want to, but… um…"
Melissa slowly nodded, mind going back to him. “Um- yeah… outside would be good.” She mumbled, looking up at him.
"Let's go on out, then…" Lucas headed out of the blanket fort and held his hand out to Melissa to help her out.
Melissa was moving a lot slower, mind not seeming too focused as she took his hand. She pulled herself out, keeping close to him.
Lucas led Melissa out the door and started walking with her to the park, worriedly glancing back at her every few seconds.
Melissa followed along quietly, eyes flicking around from one thing to another. When they finally made it, she glanced over to him before coming up to the tree. “Can… can you hold me? I- I know I’m being needy, but please..?”
"Sure, Mel…" Lucas sat down by the tree and pulled Melissa into his arms, holding her close to himself.
Melissa curled up next to him him, head on his shoulder. She looked up at him from her place. “Thank you… I- I’m sorry- I don’t know what’s wrong today…”
"It's okay, Mel. Don't worry about it." Lucas smiled weakly. "I'm happy to help you."
"I love you…" Melissa whispered, head on his shoulder. "Thank you so much." She whispered, burying her face in his shoulder.
"I love you too, Mel… and no problem." Lucas kissed Melissa gently, holding her tight.
Melissa curled up against him, chin on his shoulder. She curled up in his arms sighing weakly with her head on his shoulder.
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" Lucas asked softly.
"No, not really…" Melissa shook her head, looking up at him. "Mm, you could play with my hair."
"Alrighty." Lucas began to gently play with Melissa's hair, humming softly to himself.
Melissa nuzzled against his shoulder, steadily relaxing in his arms. "Thank you…"
"No problem, Mel… I love you…" Lucas kissed Melissa gently and hugged her tighter.
Melissa sighed weakly, chin on his shoulder as she nuzzled against his cheek. She fiddled with one of her own strands of hair. “I love you, too…”
"Is there anything else I can do for you?" Lucas asked gently. "I want you to feel better…"
Melissa shook her head again, burying her face in his shoulder. "No… I don't think so." She mumbled, pulling him closer.
"Alrighty… if there's anything you can think of, you can just let me know, okay?" Lucas smiled weakly.
"Okay, I'll let you know…" Melissa mumbled, nuzzling up against him some more. "You mean a lot to me, Lucas…"
"You mean a lot to me too, Mel… you're the best…" Lucas returned the nuzzles.
Melissa smiled weakly, not looking quite as miserable as she had been. "M'not, but thanks for the compliment."
"I think you are, darling… I love you so much, okay?" Lucas peppered Melissa's cheeks with kisses.
